The commentary in this week's New Yorker magazine doesn't offer any criticism of President Bush. It merely focuses on the tough job he faces in Iraq. He draws an analogy to the Iraqi situation and the situation France faced in Algeria in the 1950's. He also notes differences in the situations.

I'm not really sure where I stand. Sometimes, I think if you have an unpleasant job to do, it's better to do the best job possible and finish. But sometimes I think it's better to cut your losses. This author feels the former is the right thing to do.

Tom--

Much as I'd like the US to be out of Iraq, I don't see cutting our losses as an option at this point. What we've done up to now is essentially create another Afghanistan. We've paved the way for al-Qaida into Iraq when they weren't there before. Bottom line, in our war on terror, we've only doubled the amount of real estate the terrorists now have to operate in. Leaving the situation as is only doubles the danger to Americans.

We won't be relieved of any of the responsibilities there until we get a new administration here. Bush has just burned too many bridges, and is just too stingy with handing out contracts. There is no incentive for our traditional allies to risk their lives and money to help us out, especially not when we spit in their faces on the way in.

The Brits can't wait to dump Blair...I only hope we follow their example in 2004.

Madden 11...who do you mean when you say traditional allies?

I have asked this on other threads and I get ignored, so I will try again. Who is a better choice, given the world we live in and the leadership he and his team have shown, Bush is hands down, head and shoulders above the rest. I have voted for dems in the past, on all levels, I am sure I will again. But for me, in this world. Bush and his team are the only ones I trust. I would like to hear some fact based reasons, that shows the democratic experience and why and who should be elected. I am ready to listen, but I get no response. Give me fact based reasons. I don't agree with Bush or the GOP on all issues but unless something changes he gets my vote.

Read Bushwhacked by Molly Ivins and you will see that Bush is a criminal malignancy infecting America and that anyone who votes for him is a dupe or a fool.

"Nuf said"?

I know what you mean. It's just terrible when articulate, well-informed people write books. Try to get over it.

How come all the Bush bashers can't give me some facts as to why the Dems...any of them, should be elected. Still waiting to hear some facts on why/who has the experience to lead our nation. Bush gets my vote, but I am ready to listen

Articulate and well informed only apples to liberal Democratic writers right Nohero? Why do I get the impression that you try to create your screen persona like a superhero but in reality you are more like Walter Mitty? Fearless, smug and righteous on the board, major nerd in real life.

Nohero, this must be some kind of conservative debating tactic or rally cry, call liberals, weak, nerds, etc. After one of my postings an obvious conservative poster asked me if I was short.

I find this whole argument pathetic but just for fun, I'll take the bait. If you take the two most popular role models for conservatives and liberals (or at least the ones that raise the ire of each other regularly), Dubya and Bubba and put them in a ring, my moneys on Bubba kickin Dubyas butt.

Ahh, feel better now, a good testostorone rush, now I can start thinking with my brain again.

Molly Ivins--

The reason liberal men worship Clinton is because they too want to cheat on their wives.(and most probably do)

Tom,

No offense but the term Liberal or conservative usually means someone holds true to an ideology or belief in a specific way to run Government.

You OTOH, have clearly demonstrated little understanding of the political system and your yes but no answers time and time again do little if anything to sway that opinion.

Here's a suggestion Prissy, find an idea you believe in and stick with it.. Or you can keep annnoying the rest of us with your nonsense.

Insite, it's Christmas Eve, so I'll just say thank God for open minded people, and thank God for ideologues, too. Together, we make the world the place that it is. I think I'll continue to amuse people with my nonsense. And please do the same with yours.
