If you haven't driven down SA in the past few days (at night) take a drive. There are new street lights that look great. The Prospect intersection with all the new stores and trees and lights and fascades, etc. looks better than it ever has--at least in our life times. With an open mind even the biggest SA nay sayers might change their minds about the direction the avenue is taking. Congratulations to the SA Partnership and Beth MacDonald and to Vic...the folks most responsible for this turn around.

The Prospect intersection is really starting to look like someplace I'd want to go. The additions of Nomads and the bead place are really good. Let's hope that the town can continue to build on this and expand it outwards.

Hey, Jeff, how about Deborah Lyons? Don't you think she deserves some credit, too? After all, she was helping lay the groundwork for the Partnership a few years ago when nobody thought anything could be done on the Avenue.

How about Maureen Polski-Lestrange, she was one of the founders of the Partnership.

 I believe it's Lestrange-Polsky, actually ...

Springfield Avenue is showing the results of the efforts of many great people. Some folks didn't think it could happen, unfortunately. With more positive attention, things can only get better.

I went to Nomads shortly after they opened and the place seemed to be very busy.

BTW, I cant believe how much traffic rides on SA. I cant even get out of my street sometimes. The cars and buses just keep coming and coming.

I rode my bicycle along SA this afternoon, from Boyden Ave all the way down to South Pierson Rd, and it was great! The traffic was moderately heavy, but not moving too fast (for a cyclist, anyway!)Things are looking better all the time, especially by Prospect. I can't wait for Spring, when everything is in bloom

I vote this best thread of 2003. Ten positive posts in a row on a subject of importance to Maplewood.

I usually am in Net Nomads twice a week in the morning for my Hazelnut coffee, bagel and or Rapsberry Ruguleach. There is quite a bit of traffic in the store. It nice to have somewhere where you can relax and have a leisurely breakfast. And meet some people to boot.

It's really happening. It does look great and Deanna at NetNomads has good information on what all is going on, if you wna to drop in, buy a java and chat.
She has told me that the new location has been a big plus for her business.

We totally agree. Springfield Avenue, at least the small portion near Prospect, is looking fine. Congrats and thanks to all those who were involved in beginning this change-over.

I understand the Royal Dodge dealership will be undergoing cosmetic and use changes now that it is owned by Essex Chrysler. The owners of this dealership are making a big investment in their location in Maplewood.

We applaud the merchants who are "pioneering" this new look!

Has anyone seen the Christmas tree on the Ave. yet? It looks great with the lights on. Very impressive and just in the nic of time! I think that Beth Macdonald of the SAP and Vic are doing a fantastic job of bringing in all this new business and look to the Ave. They are the positive force that the Ave needed. Three cheers!

The Avenue is indeed looking pretty fine - the corner of Chancellor with the new evergreen tree looks wonderful! This is the result of years of hard work from many volunteers, the Township and special thanks should go to the Partnership, Deborah Lyons and Vic DeLuca - all have worked tirelessly and in the face of much criticism towards the improvement of Springfield Avenue. I'm excited to see what changes 2004 will bring and already looking forward to MayFest!

Ths is really just the begining. There are soooo many great things about to happen on SA. It's been a long time coming and I was one of the toughest critics. I sat on the sidelines and took cheap shots (i.e. "SA, a pig with earings"), until Vic convinced me to get involved. The more people recognize the overall value to the town the faster success will come. It all starts with patronizing the business up there.

JerryC, I commend you on your admission of guilt and on your willing to get involved instead of screaming from the sidelines. I remember that "pig with earrings" very well. It's nice to hear about someone who's been converted. Cheers!

Please enlighten us. What things in particular are about to happen and when?
