I've killed a bunch of weeds and crabgrass with various bottles of killers. Also, I've had a lot of work done on the house since I moved in and the lawn is pretty chewed up overall. I'd love to avoid having to dig up the lawn entirely and put down sod, but honestly, there isn't much lawn left! But also, there are not many dollars left in my checking account either!!! Are there some steps I can follow now to maximize my chances of a nice grassy lawn come spring? |

I've been trying to do the same. I've got to say, though, that when I'm attentive to watering it and cutting it properly (tops 1/3 only.) It improves. I went away during August when it was hot and dry and cut it short before I left. Bad idea. It was all yellow and the only thing that was growing was all of the weeds. So my advice is, don't do that. I've got the same. I think you have to pull up as many weeds as you can, scrape the bare dirt, and seed within the next month to get some good growth in those spots in the springtime. Well, I really have no idea, but that's what I'm gonna do. I think we were cutting too short. Also, when it got hot we were away, and all the newly seeded stuff from the spring (which we seeded then stupidly) died. Best of luck! |

Sept and Oct are supposed to be the best months for repairing and feeding lawns, so go for it now, and see results all next year. |

Sept and Oct are supposed to be the best months for repairing and feeding lawns, so go for it now, and see results all next year. When Millstone was Pierson's, they had grass seed specially mixed for Mpl/SO conditions, so it might also be worthwhile to check with them and see what they recommend. |
