The online debates will begin in September. AFAIK, many people are still on vacation and I'd like to get Art's runningmate a username/password before we begin, as well.

I'll start a topic in the Soapbox soon (this week or next) to begin getting questions for the candidates from other posters.

Ironman,

Later! Dave says we’re out of here, so why not just hold those questions for the debate.

The truth is, I can use a vacation myself. I've been the only candidate responding to any questions or issues for over three months now, what's another couple of weeks...

Art,

I took the liberty of brainstorming for your upcoming campaign. Here are my top suggestions for your slogan:

1) Without ART, it'd just be the Republican Py!
2) We don't need no stinkin' lawn signs, buttons, bumper stickers, coffees, flyers, political endorsements, advertisements, phone calls or rallies!
3) Art. Mark. Hey! Those are both words!
4) Vote Christensen Line B (&B)
5) A vote for Art is a vote for more parking spaces on the corner of Boyden Avenue and Elmwood Avenue!
6) Christensen: Any 6 foot sexegenarian Nordic man with an "afro" can't be all bad!
7) Christensen: A conservie who's married to a libby!
8) Art Christensen: Pancakes, Parties, Parking, Puppy Poop... Politics!
9) A vote for Art is a vote for a complete change for Maplewood!
10) Art Christensen for Township Committee: If you really really really think about it for long time, the word "committee" sounds so funny!

Let me know how else I can help. I am also good at DJing.

How about:

"How great thou, Art"
"The Mark of excellence"

Aquaman,

Those slogans are GREAT! Do you write for Letterman? Maybe you would also be willing to write some speeches for the campaign? Our campaign funds are a little low, so we can't afford to pay much, but with no stinkin' lawn signs, buttons, bumper stickers, coffees, flyers, political endorsements, advertisements, phone calls or rallies, we should be able to at least pay you some travel expense. Where would you like to go?

Ed.... Very good! We were also thinking about some "Artful" expression is needed on the TC, and his good "Marksmanship" proved to make the difference.

Okay, back to the "mess"...I have heard that the company doing the retaining wall has gone bankrupt. Any truth here? If so, what will be done to get on with this massively slow project?

Interesting, but don't spread rumors. The Mayor doesn't like it. :-)

I do remember that the work was scheduled to be completed in June and from my weekend jaunts through the park very little seems to have been done over the last few weeks. I don't get to be in the park during normal business hours, so I don't know if crews have been working.

Hi Vic! I know you're out there!! What's going on? Word has it that the company is filing for chapter 11. Everyday I walk by the river and there are pools of stagnant water in parts of the river that have been sitting for quite some time now. And of course, the stagnant piles of wall, nails, mud, gravel, garbage, etc remain as well. Can't our own guys go in and clean up a bit? Can't we atleast go ahead with landscaping on the west side of the river?

When will the Rahway River Project be finished?

When will the park be returned to it's normal appearance?

Is this true, Jerry? (I'm addressing you because you're the only member of the TC whom I know personally.) If not, can you shed some light on what's going on with the project at the park?

I'm sorry, Xavier67, I *have* actually been ignoring this thread because it had long ago drifted way off topic... in fact I only came to look because I saw my name in the first few words of the posting :-)

This project has been discussed at every Township Committee meeting for the last few months. At the meeting tonite (that I just got home from), we learned for certain that the company has gone toes up. There have been indications that this might happen, unfortunately.

Companies bidding on public projects like this are forced to post a performance bond. Early this week the Township notified the bonding company that the contractor was in default. Our expectation is that the bonding company is going to engage a contractor to finish the job.

ffof - I was not ignoring you but rather waiting to have clear facts before posting a response. In any event, Jerry has explained that we are now going to the bonding company to get the project completed. The work is about 92 percent done. We do not think the bonding company will take too long to sort this out. A letter from our attorney was sent out on September 16th and we expect an answer sometime next week. Our attorney and engineer will be contacting the bonding company if we feel there is a delay of any sort.

As for the riverbank planting, that will have to wait until the spring. It is too late weather wise to do that portion of the project now. The park will be returned to its normal appearance but it will not be until the spring.

I did ask the Township Administrator to send in our crews to secure those areas where work is still to be done to ensure no one is injured. Additionally, I asked them to make sure the asphalt path near the bridge is useable and safe.

You asked about sending in town crews to do the work. If we did that we would then take all liability to complete the job. The best recourse is the route we have taken, that being working through the bonding company and holding them responsible for job performance and completion.
