Mayor Profeta, quoted in the Star-Ledger, August 4, 2004, regarding the Bette White petition:

"But Profeta said the township could not wait until November for a referendum and warned that putting this issue on the ballot could set a dangerous precedent.

'I would never advocate reversing a township committee decision based on a petition,' he said."
