Maybe its time for her to resign. She has zero interest in taking the job seriously or bringing anything to the table. |

She won't resign. Her resignation would be something beneficlal for our town.....and I don't see anything beneficial happening for our town right now - or maybe that will be "coming soon" too...

I agree. Her resignation would be a great thing coming out of the BOT. We all know that nothing great comes of out the BOT. |

Terrian Moore-Abrams will not resign. That would not serve well her goal to promote her career. She fought hard to get that seat; she will occupy it till the end of her term, so that she can put it in her resume: Public Service 2005-2009: 4 years as a Village Trustee in the Township of South Orange, NJ. These years will also count toward her pension. And if one judges from her behavior whenever she is at the trustee meetings we shouldn't expect her to have the decency to step down for the sake of our village. She doesn't give a sht about us. Does anybody know how many meetings she missed since last year when she took office? |

Maybe its time to consider a recall of TerriAnn. Why should we put up with 3 more years of this? |

Focusing on Terri Ann’s inept public service is just the tip of the iceberg and misses the big picture. What we need is a campaign to inform and engage the voters and taxpayers of South Orange. A method to form a cohesive collation of residents, fed up with the status quo and want change now. A group that supports the taxpayers with no influence from special interest groups who have much to lose and have gained control of every election I’ve witnessed in 14 years. The first step is to publish an alternative paper to the NR, the paper should be informative & entertaining but most importantly a serious critique of the current issues and solutions to the crisis we will be facing. This is critical if we are to unseat the incumbents in 13 months, this is not something that should be done at the last minute. It needs to be started now! I'm willing to sacrifice my time and expertise to this effort - this can be done using a twofold method - physical newsprint and also PDF document to email to residents. I've laid out a newspaper before and would have no problem doing it again in the right context. The time is NOW - 3 BOT & President seats are up in 2007 - the opportunity is at hand we just have to focus & organize. I've thought about this for 5 years and feel it's now or never this is the only way to break open the process - remove the dead wood and regain control of our village. I'm getting frustrated just reading everyone ranting and raving about this and that yet no one has real solutions. Let's do this ourselves in print and get the word out. I hear the clock ticking.....we as a force can be a catalyst for change through the spread of information - if the voting public was truly aware of the current level of incompetence we have in government the whole inept group would be placed on permanent leave. It is important that we all recognize the power structure that controls our destiny; they will not give up power without a fight. Let’s not wait until their mass mailings next spring as they all take photo ops in front of the newly opened SOPAC – an informed public will see through that but they will not get the real news through the News-Record or Star Ledger.

Political Mom, how would you fund the alternative newspaper to the NR? I think a little competition would do wonders for the town, but how would you fund it for the first several years? |

John wasn't at the first town meeting. SOrising, that was my same question. I have a reasonable background in publications, etc. but most prints are primarily funded by advertising and I don't know if the businesses would do it. Elaine, do you think the business community would be interested in taking out ads in an alternative paper source? |

Sheena: Absolutely! However, first we must spare the business community from the onerous tax that the BoT is threatening to impose. Do you realize that it could be as much as 10% of the existing property taxes? That is simply outrageous. If this goes through, many businesses will not have as much money for advertising budgets. Please show up Monday night at 6:45 before the planning board and show your support of the business people who will attend to oppose this. April 24, Village Hall, 6:45 p.m. HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE. |

Regarding funding. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would make a modest ownership share investment (if for-profit) or an modest donation (if non-profit) in addition to a subscription fee, if someone puts together a plan for a viable alternative newspaper. I'd prefer one that isn't a political attack job -- being fair and thoughtful would be enough to make a difference here, and help avoid the risk of marginalization. The other question is whether one attempts to replicate all of the other aspects of a small town newspaper (event schedules, obits, church listings, classifieds, etc.) Best of luck if anyone takes this on seriously. |

Mary, I took a quick look at the Village website. Believe it or not, according to what I saw in the Meeting Minutes, TerriAnn was at every meeting in 2005 and has only missed 4 meetings (out of around 8) in 2006. |

To All; Concerning the alternative newpaper. Sorry for the delay I occasionally get caught into the vortex of life. Having a 3 & 6 year old to contend with I find myself sometimes losing track of time. In any event, the issue concerning the funding of an alternative to the News-Record has been asked. I personally thought that this should be addressed if and when a core group of interested candidates could be assembled in order to see what literary and technical resources we have at our disposal. Ideally, if we had enough people interested and it was set up as a non-profit assuming most of the articles are submitted pro-bono then the only cost I could think of would be that of the offset printing. But remember given that almost everyone has email at this point the long term aspiration is to build a e-paper – electronic newspaper sent via email would reduce or eliminate the cost of printing and still get the word out. With the Adobe Acrobat Reader a free download the paper would be converted from it’s native layout application to Adobe Acrobat so regardless of Operating System or hardware you will be able to view the paper on any computer. When it comes down to it if we can find individuals who are dedicated to making this a reality, we all know what’s hanging in the balance – higher taxes or a plan for tax stabilization – a good school system for our children or the continued deterioration as has been observed over the last 2 decades – a community we could all be proud of that shows fiscal responsibility and responsible management. And a method through citizen consensus to galvanize action to make our politicians accountable when they don’t do what is in the interests of the taxpayers of our community. Remember a closed government is more then often a corrupt government – having control of the press helps keep the status quo in power and operating and the masses ignorant and wondering. The real cost of this is a pittance to what it will cost us if we do nothing and allow the mismanagement on all levels to continue unchecked. I will start a new thread since we've deviated from the subject at hand.

MHD, Your numbers of Terriann's absences seemed too low so I followed your suggestion and checked the minutes of the meetings on the website. Your numbers are correct but I noticed that there are dates of minutes missing. There are several BOT meetings from October through April, including their budget meetings, that are not posted on the website. Where are their minutes? Trustees ROSNER, DEVARIS, ROSEN???? Shouldn't they be posted by now? Or is this just another attempt to closed government? |

politicalmom: Regarding the alternative paper: I think it should be written from the perspective of South Orange Villagers, with due attention to our "special relationship" with Maplewood and the world in general. I think it should be at the very least a monthly digital publication, with hard copy editions available free wherever newspapers are (still) sold. I think it should be committed to solid newsgathering and reasoned reporting, and should establish high aspirations -- journalistic, not political -- for regularly distilling at least some of the truth about life around here. I further think that I have come up with a decent name and logo:
-s. ...and yes, I'd be interested in contributing in some editorial manner... |

As a grovellingly naked peace gesture, my envisioned dining commentary shall be named after the reportedly fabulous (yet inexplicably short-lived) greasy spoon once operated by none other than my self-exiled ex-boss, during the Crimean Wars. Or the Punic, I always get them mixed up... Anyway, for aeons, The Oracle had been working heavy overtime over in M&A (Mysticism & Arcana), and, wishing to avoid an ugly burn-out, his boss, Big Boy, deemed it time for some R&R, but "Trump" Style: A) Wisely forseeing The Oracle's one-day desire to retire someplace warm, and 2) knowing (of course) what it is to live on a fixed income, Big Boy's deal was for The Oracle take a year or two off, during which he'd develop some "Real World Without End" skills... ones he could fall back on if finances ever got tight down the road (which, BTW they have not). The Oracle's task was to create a profitable eatery, specifically in the same neighborhood as (& therefor in de facto competition with) The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe (a mediocre place at best, but blessed with Location, Location, & Location, right across from the new Riverside Funeral Chapel Portal). The Oracle, never one to sidestep a challenge, dove right in with his usual cockeyed optimism; figuring that the only thing that "trumps" Location (as in Space) is Duration (as in Time), he named his new venture as I shall name mine: THE ETERNAL RESTAURANT -s. |

If any of us were to see Terriann in public, e.g., the A&P, post office, would we say anything to her? I haven't seen her in our community in a very long time, but after I read through everyone's comments, I wondered..."What would we do if we saw Terriann on the streets of South Orange?" I know I would casually mention her many absents and lack of enthusiasm for our town. Hopefully this wouldn't cause a nasty cat fight! :-) |

To answer ROGER's question, yes, she did say something. Terrinne was there just long enough to ask the new Executive Director of the CCR, who happens to be an AA, how many AA's were in the group of realtors that the CCR would be meeting with. (The executive director didn't know.) Terrianne's agenda has been a one track agenda since she's been on the board. |
