Would anyone be interested in "renting" a parking space to us either in the designated parking lots of in your driveway etc? We have been on the waiting list for over 18 months now with no end in site and we are starting to get desperate. Any other thoughts would be appreciated |

Lisanne check the archives. I know this topic was discussed before with alternate suggestions for parking. |

Depending on where you live there are private lots that sometimes will allow you to park if you adhere to their rules...The church on SO ave, the catholic church on 4th and Prospect...and some businesses while they are closed.

If you are not going to midtown (maybe or even if you are), you might want to try the daily lot at Mountain Station. If you get there early enough (I take the 7:29 AM to Hoboken and there appear to be open spaces in the lot), you can park, drop $4 (I think) in a drop box and hop on a train. By 8 AM the lot is definitely full. Also, there appears to be a "permit" lot operated by a contractor (I don't think it is the SO Parking Authority, but I will open it up to the floor) on the westbound side of the station. Maybe you can purchase a permit from them. . . |

Not sure about the legalities, and it's not quite as close to the train station, but some commuters apparently park on Mead Street and Meadowbrook Lane in the park. |

FYI - http://southorange.org/parking.asp There are 12 hr meters available. Currently there is also parking in the shoprite lot on Vose available for $5 daily. SOPA does not operate the parking facilities at Montrose Station. Hope this helps.

South Orange Nanny...Jeff DuBowy is a Parking Authority employee I believed, so his information is correct. You can confirm this info through older threads regarding the commuter lot for $5.00. |

thanks everyone for your helpful comments. My husband doesn't need it everyday so we will probably check out the Shop Rite lot. One other question, are the 12 hour meter spaces next to the ambulance/fire rescue station?

Lisanne - you are correct about the 12hr meters. They are also on Comstock - between Scotland & Vose. Please check your status on the waiting list and let me know your #. I did not see the name "Hauck" on my list. Not to worry - I might have missed it - I scanned very quickly. O&G - Just to clarify - I am a Volunteer Commissioner on the SOPA Board, not an employee. I try to help MOL'ers with parking issues and questions. Thank you. |

Funny, it sometimes seems volunteers in this town are more helpful then the paid help?

lisanne, there may also be 12-hour spots in the lot behind the library, against the fence. At least they were there a couple of years ago.

Lisanne- The first aid squard is on Third Street, not Commstock. Commstock is by the librabry and post office. Do you happen to live near one of the Jitney stops? |

Here is the link to the parking authority. There is a little map and shows where the 12 hour meters are located. You can pick up a hard copy at SOPA (2nd floor at village hall). http://www.southorange.org/parking.asp |

There are several options for parking in town. But the problem with them all is that even with all these options there still is no parking. And with the coming of the wrold famous SOPAC in 2011(?) it's only going to get worse. I wish you the best of luck in your search for the perfect space.(or at least a suitable one) |

Dear Jeff, Thanks for the info. Our name on the list is my husband's, Jim Hall. However he may be under W. James Hall, his "formal" name. Thanks to everyone again for all the helpful comments.

There is plenty of parking if the village would allow us to use it. I have a one-car garage with space for one additional car in my driveway; however, if an overnight guest comes I have to ask permission from the police like I'm in 3rd grade - to park in front of my own house. Are we worried that commuters will clog every inch of curb space in our neighborhoods or students from SHU will rent houses and bring in 15 cars??? Can we have ordinances that don't legislate the exceptions, but take care of an important issue? If I have to apply for a permit to park in front of my house, I'm all for it as opposed to the current set-up. |
