O & G: Somehow I doubt that BMO will have those numbers. For some events in the past SHU has paid for part of the expense. I would hope the same holds true for this event. The county will assist the village with providing security and traffic control. I won't have any other information until it gets closer regarding the event or the exact cost to the village till after the event.

mrosner, i would assume that there are also either state police and or federal agencies such as department of state diplomatic security or secret service involved as well? |

E roberts: I would assume the same thing, but I don't know that for sure at this point. |

Yeah, thanks for the notice, should be an interesting event. And I don't remotely care who is paying for security, or how much it will cost me if Gorbachev has to call an ambulance.

Pizzaz - from the info I have researched online, I don't think he speaks English, but I will ask some professors at the School of Diplomacy. I don't know about the security details of the event but I believe that there was some federal agency here last year when Shimon Peres came to speak (maybe the Secret Service?)- but I'm not sure. SoOrLady I'm sorry what was it you would like me to check up on? |

BMO - I'm sure arrangements have been made, but if you need a translator, my son speaks fluent Russian and lived in Russia for a year. |

MEET THE CANDIDATES NIGHT! For anyone who missed the previous debates or would like another chance to see, hear, and question the Board of Trustees Candidates, Seton Hall Village Liaisons Committee will be hosting a Meet the Candidates event this Wednesday April 13th at 8:30pm in the Kozlowski Hall Auditorium on campus. The candidates will present their platforms after which they will receive questions from a panel and later questions from the audience. Did anyone else get the letter stuffed in their door from the Village Liaison Committee of SHU? There has been a Task Force Hotline set up to report instances of noise and minor public nuisances between the hours of 9PM-6AM. The student rep answering the phone is tasked with attempting to alleviate the problem within 15 minutes and calling you back with an update (should you desire). The hotline is also a place to express general concerns during daytime hours.

Is that SHU's answer to protecting their own from police noise tickets. CALL THE POLICE: THEIR RESPONSE WILL BE MUCH FASTER THEN 15 MINUTES AND THEIR RESULTS WILL BE FAR MORE MOTIVATING TO THE NUISANCES. |

SO Refugee... thanks for reminding everyone about the hotline. It is now up and running and I hope residents will get the chance to read the letters VLC has distributed. O&G - that's a very negative outlook on this initiative. This program is meant to help the entire community and not meant to protect anyone from tickets. In its first two weeks the program has had a good response so far. So unless you've had a personal bad experience with this current system - please don't knock it. The task force hotline is a great way for students (ie - task force members) to get positively involved in the community and hopefully help neighbors to get along better.

In the past, where I've had to call the police, the response has been quick; however, the long-term solution is not realized because the students are treated no different than any other citizen by the SOPD (nor should they). By getting the university involved, the students are held accountable by more than one authority and hopefully will become "model citizens" of the community. We can't knock SHU for trying to help the situation. |

I just don't beleive that this is for the best interest of the citizens...I believe its a reaction to keep the police out of underage drinking parties off campus and protect students from police interdiction. I am happy to see that it wont waste police resources at the wee hours, but that is the only positive I see for the tax payer. The two times I called the police after repeated attempts to speak with my nieghbors and didn't get any response was this: According to the police their reports involving SHU students go to the University anyway regardless if they write a ticket or not...so if they get a ticket from the police, the University will also get involved as well...Also, the police from my experience are notorious for emptying out the party and trying to close it down for the night...I can't see this hotline doing the same. I applaud the effort, but they should have involved the police, because noise is a quality of life issue for residents, I want someone who works for the resident to intervene, not someone associated with the problem trying to mitigate the situation. Also, what if the person your reporting to this hotline isn't students, or also what if it is a incident of domestic violence, just because the music is loud doesn't mean its an SHU house party. Let the students and University police themselves on campus, Let SOPD police off campus.

SOREF- the college gets info on all incidents regarding seton hall students whether or not this task force is involed, they always have and for the most part do what they can to adjust the behavior of their students. Calling someone other than the police to respond where police action is neccesary is downright dangerous. like O&G said there are more incidents than just the noise, what if they respond to a call where besides the noise there has been an assault, now they've just added that must time to the response of the appropriate services. what this thing will do is actually make the quality of life issued (raised by seton hall students) worse, by having a college peer come and suggest to keep things civil you send a massage that they will not be held accountable for their actions the way they should be.....the party goers basically are getting tipped off to a complaint on their actions and will disregard the consequences that they'd normally be subjected to |

What's the phone number for the task force; no flyer at my place (tho several SHU students are my neighbors). And now that the weather is nicer, my biggest complaint is the screaming and yelling as the students walk up SO AVE. to Seton HAll late at night. They walk past many homes and apartments, and don't realize (or care?) how disturbing they are. |

I think what the town needs to do early in this Spring season is this: Get the paddy wagons and first House party complaint just roll it up to the house and park it right out front...Seen it done at the shore, and you would be amazed how quickly things get quiet. That sends a message. |

100% right, hit them with zero tolerance during the first few weeks and it kepps them under the radar for the rest of the season although, IMO, it should be zero tolerance all the time |
