Maybe someone set-up a camera that records daily progress on the Beifus site, and share it with the community.

I'm afraid we don't need moving video to show the "progress".

MHD -- I imagine it will be like the proverbial 4 seasons shots -- summer, fall, winter, spring -- the same hole :-)

That said -- it does seem like the property has been levelled, old asphalt torn up, there are no more holes in the ground.

Wonder what its for? Wonder who did it?

Pete

Any excavation experts out there?

Is there any reason to level a site prior to excavating for a foundation, since they ultimately rely on surveyors markings of existing terrain, or is this more likely done as a precursor to building a PARKING LOT?

Its called site preparation...usually a sub contractor comes in and builds access to the site, prepares the boundries for construction and levels and clears debris. Essentially most construction jobs start with a flat level dirt lot.

Its part of the process, Don't look to deep into this as another conspiracy. Its very common.

My money is on parking lot. And that it was planned this way from the beginning (or at least from this round of "negotiations").

Our tax dollars at work. Does anyone know who is paying for all the work that is being done? I think tomorrow I'll ask the construction guys what they're building as I walk by.

Is there not a lawyer amongst you who can challenge the parking lot scenario? Here's a hint: I have been told that it is not legal for a town to spend money to improve an individual's property - no matter how the town might "benefit" from the improvement.

Hey, we REALLY need a parking lot. What we don't need is more empty RETAIL space. I've been here 2 years, and it's more and more like a 'improvement zone', maybe we can get the 3% sales tax.

Believe me: I was there, and will be there to challenge the use of the Beifus property as a parking lot. This was not the deal the Village presented to the voters when it took public comment on the PILOTS. It is outrageous, and I will call them on it until the end.

What am I missing that makes it a big deal to use the lot for parking if other construction has been delayed?

thanks -

A parking lot could be very useful in town, sure.

IF it was privately operated, paying taxes, and ultimately there was a better end in sight!

That said, its not so much a parking lot, its that once again, same old story, it seems like the Beifus site is still "nothing."

Instead of offering shops and homes - along with parking (which was the approved plan) we may get parking! (and think of the $100k's of lost tax revenue !)

Its a poor stop gap instead of real development -- and we are paying for it!

Don't forget the tax break Mr. Beifus is gettting courtesy of Calabrese & Co. SO paves his lot AND "pays" his taxes on the property for two years. Beifus should be removed as developer at once, we should "take" his property and find a developer - wonder what The Donald is doing?

Why are folks so convinced retailers want to move into a yet-to-be-built Beifus shopping center? There are countless open stores in town already.

Will there be a parking attendant? Will we have valet service at last? This is all so exciting. Thank you BOT.

Can you pave over Sayeed's property next? I think it would be soooo cute to call it "The Little Lot".

Toddler #1: Mommy can we park in the little lot today?
Toddler#2: Yeah! The little lot is tops.
Mom: No!
Toddler #2:-Oh Mom, C'mon Plea..
Mom:We do our shopping out of town. The mall is so much more accomadating and chock full of merchandise for the whole family. We only go dowtown to eat once a month.
Toddler #1: Mom your so smart.

If it were to be parking lot then why did we give them a Pilot? Why do we give them $20,000 per year for 5 years to clean up the their property? Why do we abate the property tax as a "rental" payment while it is used as a parking lot?

What were we told! Why did the BOT need to go into "Closed Session" to discuss the May 9th deadline?

If it does become a parking lot - which is ridiculous to begin with - who is resposible for the costs involved with the tearing up and removal of the asphalt after the 18 months?

Reminds me of that great Joni Mitchell Song, Big Yellow Taxi. In fact, I think I'll just throw that CD into the player....
