We were craving burgers, and being somewhat new here, we thought we'd try the Gaslight. Saturday at 5:45, there were about 10 people in the place. The "hostess" told us only the smoking section was available, even though the rest of the place was pretty empty. So we took a table with our 2 and 4 year old daughters. The "hostess" then told us she had no high chairs or booster seats, and asked if we still wanted to eat there. (We missed this clue.) Before we even got water, my 2 year old started crying. The "hostess" then suddenly appeared and told us if we wanted to stay the children had to remain quiet. Sheesh. We had tasty burgers and a kid-friendly dinner at the Blue Moon Diner. |

Sounding like these guys are truly a lost cause. If they were known to be kid-friendly and made it into our "rotation" of restaurants, they'd probably have grossed over $1000 in revenue from my family over the past few years. Ah well. More money for Lot 15 and Toro Loco and Voro and Arugula and Bunny's. |

These people aren't particularly "adult-friendly" either. |

You gotta think that they read these web threads and choose to ignore us. Guess that is their choice but.. what a waste. |

I have kids and I still do hope that there will be some places left in the world that will be "adult only" once they finally leave the house (or if we're lucky enough to get a sit for the night). They could do with a little better adult customer service, but as an adult I really do appreciate that there are places in the world that remain family-unfriendly.

So long as the kids are just being kids and not ruining other customers' dinners, my policy at Gas Light is to simply ignore all requests from the wait staff regarding my childrens' deportment. Frankly, it is only MY requests that are of importance. And I make it very clear to them that I am ignoring them. Best to distract them immediately with requests for obscure condiments and water refills (which they need practice on, in any event). There is no way they are going to throw you out because a baby is crying or toddlers are a bit boisterous. Actually, it's the guys upfront at the bar shouting at the basketball game and smoking that should be patrolled by the wait staff. They disturb my children and me. |

I went there once, pre-kid, and found the food blah and the ambiance weird -- bar up front and creepily decorated restaurant in the back. There are so many better options for places to go with kids, why go there? My son loves Bunny's (I mean he LOVES Bunny's) and really likes Toro Loco -- he's so comfortable there I found him sitting at the bar with his coloring book Sunday night. Anyway ... screw Gaslight. Who needs their stinking burgers. That said, I do agree with Argon -- I enjoy knowing that there are places where I won't have to listen to anoying kids. |

I can't figure this place out. We've been there twice -- both times had generally good food and generally bad service. It seems like the type of place that would thrive in town. It's in a great location, has a big menu (which I consider superior in selection to Bunny's and St. James), yet seems to loathe customers. Whenever people visit from out of town my first thought is always to take them to the Gaslight for a drink and dinner, but then I remember what hte place is really like. |

C Monty- That's what is so mystifying about the Gaslight. If service and customer relations are the problem, then there is no problem: JUST FIX IT! These owners seem to make it a point of pride to be confrontational. And as far as being "kid-friendly", maybe they don't want a family atmosphere but any good establishment would still try to accomodate customers who showed up with kids. I can't imagine Papillon, which is clearly aiming for a mature clientele, being anything less than cordial in similar circumstances. The customer may not always be right but nobody ever made a living by proving they are wrong. |

No one seems to get it they do not welcome children in their restaurant. They are rude to customers and have no problem telling you if you do not like it then do not eat here. We are a town full of families. My children behave better than some adults and other than the gaslight I have never had an issue in any other restaurant in our town. They do not deserve our business as a community. Go to bunnys for a burger they are great there!!! I have taken my children to papillon many times and they go out of their way to make them comfortable. They are professional. I have been in Antonellas when families have come in and I have seen children acting like children and Antonella personally helped to make them comfortable bringing them pasta quickly to ease the situation. They are professionals and make you feel at home as a family dining togther. Gaslight is a non friendly environment and I have personally had issues with the owner. First of all her claiming to have gone to the CIA in Fla is a joke her food is borderline digestable. I have had the good pleasure to eat in some of the best and worst this world has to offer and in my opinion they are one of the worst all around restaurants I have ever had the bad pleasure of waisting my money and time in. |

I went there with a friend ta friend the other night for a beer. The place was packed, though no kids in sight. Strangely, the bartender was rude and surly when we asked about beers they had on tap, and what alternates were available in bottles. We left and went to Bunny's. |

If you don't like Gaslight don't go there. Why take the extra step of driving a thriving business with a nice-looking storefront out of town? Not enough vacant storefronts on SO Ave for you? Too many drinking/dining choices within walking distance of the train station? There are actual, real problems in this town which could use a groundswell of support and a bumper sticker campaign or whatever. You could put your efforts towards something useful rather than driving a business out of town just because you don't like it.

wnb, By the same standard, instead of spending your time criticizing those who don't like the gaslight, you should spend time on something more constructive. The time you spend on that post could have been used to make this a better town. Sound ridiculous? It is, and so is your post. I don't think the ultimate goal is to run the Gaslight out of town. It is to try and improve it. But obviously the owners don't care to. Or, maybe another Brew pub will open in town because of the dissatisfaction with the Gaslight.

Oh come on now Share your thoughts with the owners...You still do not get it they do not care!!! I know someone who confronted the owner Cindy about the situation with children and her response was " I do not welcome and do not want children in my restaurant" She went on to explain that she is a fine dining establishment. I guess in her world children do not have the right to dine in a fine establishment. |
