Went to Voro. The owners are very nice, friendly, welcoming, hip. Own another restaurant in the Village in NYC. Live in SO. The food was VERY good and very reasonably priced. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, I'd give the ambiance a 9. The bar area is also a lounge area is also a location where you can choose to eat dinner and/or dessert and/or appetizers while relaxing in luxurious chairs. The dining area is also quite comfortable, with large windows that allow you to llok out on the town. It also has an outdoor seating area. I told the owners that I loved the place, and that I would be very very angry if they start out here, prosper, then pull up roots and move to Millburn (as SInclair's did before them). They said they had no intention of doing that! Go, you'll enjoy. ANd go again and try something different on the menu. There's lots there to choose from. |

We had a great meal at Voro Friday night. The portions were ample, creative and very tasty, there's are plenty of Mediterranean-infused dishes to choose from, and the wine was excellent -- we had the house Cabernet. We arrived at 7:15 and an hour later the place was jammed. Welcome to South Orange! |

Had an excellent meal at Voro Sunday evening. We got there about 6:00. Brought our almost-six-year-old, and we were all made to feel very welcome. (I'm sure it helps that it wasn't Friday or Saturday during "prime date night". Bring the kids off-peak and everyone's happy) The decor is as magnificent as advertised. We started with tapas. The meatballs turned out to be a hit with the young'un. The Portugese chicken in green sauce was phenomenal. Lamb chops were absolutely exquisite. My wife had the fusilli, which she loved. They made a pasta with butter and parmesan for our daughter, which was well received, The house chianti was very good. The house merlot seemed off, but improved with breathing. Dessert was a pot of chocolate fondue with fruit, 3 forks. Very nice, indeed. The waitstaff was very friendly and very attentive. Darcy, the owner, introduced herself. She made a point to ask us for feedback on what works and what doesn't so far. (Darcy, most everything is working just fine!) What a welcome addition to town! Can't wait to come back. |

We tried it Sat. night & loved it. Cool atmosphere, great menu. I don't get the champagne room though, but thought the lounge would be a nice place to come & just have a drink. |

Dined there tonight, and VORO is a definite winner. David & Darcy (who have altready resided in South Orange for 6 years) have put plenty of money, energy, know-how, and taste into this terrific place. We as patrons can only hope to be worthy of their faith in our town; we must all pitch in and support VORO with gusto, word of mouth, and big tips. *We sat downstairs at the window, and immediately liked what has been done with the space. *The wine library takes up the entire back wall. *Tableware is distictive and stylish. *Black napkins! No stupid lint on my black jeans! *Complimentary olives and breads arrive quickly. *Cosmo glass: Chilled! Righteous! *Vodka&Tonic: Tall glass, yet not watered-down. *Water glass: Worthy of a good pilsner, but tap water tasted just fine from it. *I ordered the mini-paella and the lamb chops from the Tapas Menu. Beautiful. *Mrs. Soda ordered salmon. Also yummy. *SO: All food was savory and delicious. Chef shows confidence and a sure hand. *Service is friendly, deft, and timely. *Servers are the best-looking in Essex County. *Music is cool yet non-intrusive. *Entree Serving size had negated our need for dessert, but I just had to see if the cheesecake and coffee would attract me at 1:30AM...Yup. David gave me the Tour. The place has three distinct areas, each done wonderfully. The bar/smoking lounge is cosy and vaguely rustic, yet modern and efficiently ventilated (The Gate: Take Notice!), i.e. no smoke invades anywhere it's not welcome. Upstairs, the three beds are the big deal, but the entire zone is very cool, and will be a great private party venue. They open at 5 every (EVERY) night. You cannot go wrong. Go there. Enjoy. Go late. Eat. Drink. Go very late. Hang out. Go again. You'll want to be a regular. They'll let you. Look for me there. -s. BTW: I didn't ask David what "VORO" means, but he asked me if I'd been to his joint in the City. I said, "Who needs New York?" |

Soda- "Beds?" Am I missing something? Doe this mean those who eat and drink too much can stay over? I think it's great so many people have so many positive things to say about Voro! Maybe they will get a review in the Ledger so those who don't read MOL are aware of it! |

Read up the thread, JTA. There's some sort of "champagne room" with double beds on a 2nd level. Several people have asked for explanation and I eagerly await same. maybe something to do w/Sex in the City episodes at the trendy new clubs? |

I had dinner last Saturday at VORO and I echo many of the comments in this thread. I wish I would have ventured upstairs to see the champagne room but I didn't. The food was great, the atmosphere felt like the city and the wine prices were way too high (although their initial wine selections were very nice). I had an opportunity to hang out at Sky Bar in Hollywood a few times and they have a number of beds outside on their patio surrounding the pool area. People lounge on the beds and "hang out". There is nothing sexual about having beds there. The reason I bring this up is that Sky Bar offers an incredible view of the LA Metro area from high in the hills of Hollywood. The views are absolutely breathtaking. The view offered from Zoro is of Shop Rite Liquors and Bill's vault - The Prescription Counter.

2001 Jordan Cab - $39 in store and I think over $80 at ZORO. Not picking on Zoro but I hate paying over 100% markup. That's probably why I like BYOB's. |

First or all It is VORO. There are many choices at $24.00 to $40.00 that are very drinkable and for someone who talks about going to the SKY BAR in Hollywood I would think you are used to spending big money on wine.

Big difference - work pays for the drinks when I travel and I pay when I go out locally. It's much funner when I can expense it obviously. There are too many nice BYOB options for dinner than to get screwed on a bottle of wine with over 100% markup. Just because they have inexpensive bottles on the menu doesn't give them the right to markup the rest of the wines so much. Sent me a privateline and I'll invite you over to taste my private scotch collection and enjoy a nice bottle of wine. Cold beer on tap as well!! |

Thans for the offer it sounds very nice but I am not much of a drinker. It sounds like to collection would be waisted on me. |

While the chocolate fondu is fun and I am sure the cheesecake was delish, everyone should promise themselves to have at least one piece of Voro's Mississippi Mud Pie in their lifetime. |

We went there tonight. The owner came to the table and introduced himself. The food was very good and the fondue was great. Two items of note - I agreee that the winelist is overpriced. One of my favorite pinos costs $45 but can be bought at the village liquor store for $20. Even worse it is now on sale at total wine for $14. Way too much mark up. Second - the staff was wonderful. They were very curtious, pleasant and fun. All of the servers stopped by during the evening to assist us. One of them gave my daughter and I a tour of the kitchen. All of those gorgeous girls fawning over my family made me feel like caeser for the night so maybe the wine markup wasn't soo bad. |

Kevin how much is a martini in a bar and how much is the bottle of vodka? I for one find the wine list vry affordable. most restaurants mark the wine bottle 3 times. They have several wines at $24.00 a bottle. How much is a chicken in a store and how much is it in a restaurant? |
