On Wednesday I was feeling pretty disjointed at work and left a little early to nap. That night I only slept about 3 hours, first it was sweating, then freezing, then sweating. Thursday I felt like I had been hit by a truck, I laid on the couch all day, and went to bed at 10. I fitfully slept, any laid on the couch from 2am, till Friday night again around 10. I tried taking some warm showers, but afterwards would sweat like I was in a basketball game for about and hour, so that doesn’t help. Friday night I slept for about 4 hours. The next day was Pre-Cana (Classes you take to get married in a church), we had to reschedule it 3 time and I wasn’t going to let my Fiancé’ down, so I toughed through it. I was fine most of the day, but when we got home I completely fell apart. Slept 2 hours Saturday night, in puddles of sweat. Sunday I seemed ok, but kept getting the chills, last night 3 hours of sleep. Today I’m sitting at my desk and I’m not sure what to do I’m freezing. Temp 99.9 No stomach issues Pee is pretty dark Drinking all the water I can get my hands on. What is wrong with me.

Your hit by a truck comment sounds flu-like. Any congestion? Coughing? Tightness in the chest? You've got a fever, so your body is trying to fight something (to no avail, obviously). Any plans to see a doctor at all or are you going to allow your fellow MOLers to diagnose and treat you? |

Ask yourself these questions (you don't need to share with us): Does it hurt to pee? Are you going more/less than usual? Do you feel as if you have to pee but can't? have you had any recent association with hookers? What does "dark" mean? Deep yellow or more orange? Have you been taking any herbs or vitamins (especially vitamin c)? You probably have the flue, but if you have other urinary signs and it isn't easing up, do call the doctor. BTW - I just threw that one in for the helluvit.... Feel better. |

Any congestion? Nope. Coughing? Maybe a little Tightness in the chest? No You've got a fever I do? I mean it’s 99.9 so it’s one 1.3 degrees Does it hurt to pee? Nope, not a bit Are you going more/less than usual? Considering the amount that I sweat I can’t imagine there is much pee left Do you feel as if you have to pee but can't? Nope, if I have to pee I pee, just not a lot have you had any recent association with hookers? Glad to say no What does "dark" mean? Deep yellow or more orange? More Brown Have you been taking any herbs or vitamins (especially vitamin c)? Yep Vitamin C, pills and juices. I have an appointment at 1:15, I was just hoping someone would say “Oh that’s easy, you have XXXXXX” then I could say “I’m going home I have XXXXXX” then after the doctor I don’t that to change the diagnosis. I was out ½ Wed., Thur., and Fri.

I hope you have something that can be treated, Brett, not one of those 'plenty of rest and call if you're not better in a week' illnesses. Anything over your usual body temp is a fever. Hence your sweats and chills. (I'm a hypochondriac - I live for this stuff...) |

Well, sounds like it will be easy for you to give a urine sample! "Brown" definitely calls for a lab analysis. But, I still say "flu", no UTI. Any takers? I'm in for $10. |

OK - I have to take back my "flu" diagnosis. Since last Wednesday, your fever should be going down, not up. Adult temps rise in the evening, so if it's 102.3 now, it's a good thing that you are going to the doctor. Keep pushing those fluids & take some Tylenol to get the fever down.

Do you have any pain anywhere? Especially in the lower right side of your back, just above the hip bone? Greenie, Could it be his appendix? |

Well I'm panicking, so that accounts for some of it "Brett first American with bird flu!" It has been in the evenings, just not today, but I went to work today. Tylenol or Advil?

JTA - I'm not a doctor, just an infectious disease freak. You know the saying that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing? If it were his appendix, I would think that he'd have pain & GI symptoms. Brett - for fever, I'd go with Tylenol. Have you been in Asia recently? Or hanging out with sick chickens? Trust me, you don't have bird flu. Feel better & keep us posted. |

The brown pee can mean blood in the urine - possibly a UTI that's moved into the kidneys. Drink lots of water until you get to the doctor. |

UTI will mean antibiotics. Flu will mean rest. Unless it moves into your chest and you develop something bronchial, not much you can do about the flu. Sleep, drink fluids (non alcoholic). I take 2000 mg of lysine a day (I think it helps, but if you don't believe in homeopathy....) I once missed a month of work because of the flu. I'd be home a couple days, feel better, get to the office, puke or be exhausted, go home, etc. When I finally went to the doctor, he said "stay home". It just has to pass. Continued high fevers can be a sign that it has turned into pneumonia, but you are young and healthy so it's unlikely & probably not a big deal, even if it is. |

It's not a UTI. His urine is concentrated because of all his sweating. If he had a UTI he wouldn't have lasted this long without medical attention. My guess: flu-like something with a bit of congestion (even though you don't think you have it, the doctor will find it). You'll get an anti-biotic and a decongestant. Although, with such a high fever for so many days, there is a chance you've got a bit of walking pneumonia... Don't take Tylenol now - go to the doctor with your fever. If you have time to take a bath do so - it really helps the aches and pains. |

No, no! I mean it would be too painful - you'd have been at the doctor or ER the very first day! Is the Bride away? Who's bringing you won ton soup and ice cream? Your baths are supposed to be soothing. If you are sweating nickels it is too hot. You are supposed to feel a bit better after. Promise. |

Take it from a 200,000 mile a year business traveler who has seen the light and reformed: the Omaha flight will do you more harm than good, and, if you're presenting to a client or prospect, you might just blow it in your condition. And you can't get from here to Omaha on one flight anyway, more than likely. Reschedule the Omaha meeting. Health comes first. |

Better yet, can you dial a conference call number and put the visit on speaker? I'll give you my dial-in. I'd take the Tylenol and let the doc know what your temp has been running; they'll trust you and it may make you feel better. Innis - this isn't a client; it's She Who Is Commander of All in The Universe (Brett's fiance). They are doing Wedding Stuff. He will need to be hospitalized or present a death certificate to get out of this one. Although, Brett, if you were on my flight with the flu, I'd killl you. |

As long as you don't have a history of doing this throughout the engagement (getting sick), I think the Commander will forgive you. Sounds like you had 'walking pneumonia' for a couple of days and now it has escalated. Hope you feel better |
