Has anyone (besides me) purchased this anti-aging treatment for $150?

I have some hyper-pigmentation and supposedly this will not only fade the spot, but make my skin look FAB!

Anyone use it? Anyone have positive results?
Anyone have a bridge to sell me?

For those not privy to the backstory: I called Ess from the cosmetic counter to ask her thoughts and ended up purchasing two of these creams - one for her and one for me!

So, does it work? How long do we need to wait for a progress report -- 1 week, 2?

Six...

How's about a Before/After? I'll photograph my face tonight for the before shot. I'll use this product for six weeks then post both the before and after.

Almost my entire forehead has been hyper-pigmentated [sp] (for those not in the know, that's like a giant freckle covering most of my forehead). Of course, I could just go to the dermatologist for a fifteen dollar co-pay followed by a twenty dollar prescription, but where's the fun in that?

Well if it makes you feel any better, I went to the dermatologist and got face cream and it didn't make a difference. So now I am trying Oil of Olay.....

I am not a fan of "cosmeceuticals". If my dermatologist doesn't recommend or prescribe it, it doesn't go on my skin. I think a lot of the cosmeceutical business is a whole lot of hooey.

My mother now swears by vitamin e oil. I'm too afraid to put oil on my skin (plus I'm 20 years younger). Las, polease do let us know.

On the down side, IMHO: the industry has our gender bamboozled into throwing away large sums of money on a lost cause. You may believe the results are fab--the mind is a wonderful thing (check out how hypnosis works!) But in reality, again, IMHO, we're all just getting wrinklier and poorer. Luckily, I'm already too poor to spend $150 on face cream.

Since I get it cheap, I've been doing the ROC mini-peel, supplemented by Neutrogena home microdermabrasion and (faithfully every day) ROC eye cream, night anti-wrinkle and day cream (with sunscreen).

I do see a difference, especially in the wrinkles. But, it doesn't "cure" anything; if I skip the wrinkle cream for a couple days, they creep back.

What do you all do for hyper-pigmentation?
I have been protecting myself from the sun for fifteen years - my dark spot is hormonal.

I think you might need laser for that, or a chemical peel from the dermatologist.

At any rate, even if it costs $200 or so for the laser or peel, it's effects are probably longer lasting than $150 face cream.

Greenietree: what is "ROC"?

First iron rule of thumb for beautiful skin is to drink a lot of water. I'm bad at that. Wish they would recommend white wine instead.

ROC is a brand of skin care products. Or, rather RoC. You can get it at the drugstore, I think. I never paid attention to it until a friend told me about it.

I started using RoC products a couple of years ago. The retinol night cream is frequently recommended by the women's magazines (Self, Allure).

As for the other creams, lotions, gels, scrubs, peels, and masques: can't wait to try them.

I also have a dark area (melasma) as a lasting reminder of my pregnancies. A dermatologist prescribed one hydroquinone cream ($120) and when that set my face on fire, another ($80). (Neither was covered by insurance, as they were considered costmetic.) Neither made a significant difference. Full disclosure - because the cream irritates my skin, turning the affected area red and making it look darker, I do not use it consistently.

If anyone has had success with lightening hormone-related pigmentation, please share!

I don't know about hormone-related pigmentation, but for sun damage I swear by a yearly laser treatment.

Takes away freakles, spider veins and small areas of hyperpigmentation - costs about $200-$300 and is about as painful as a teensy rubber-band snapping. Takes about 15 minutes.

I usually get a laser in the fall after the summer's sun damage. You look a little red and blotchy for a few days, so I wouldn't do it before a wedding or picture-taking event.

Someone else said the best anti-aging remedy is sunscreen - which I totally agree with. I wear SPF 15-30 every day, plus big sunglasses and a hat most of the time, but I still get freckles - it's nice to have a second chance w/ the lasers now.

Speaking of which, can anyone recommend a place to do laser removal of facial hair? I know that no one here has an issue with this, but perhaps someone has a friend with hormonal issues?

Greenie -

I think any dermatologist will do it - a friend of mine got her chin hairs lasered off by someone in Millburn - I can't remember his name - Seigal maybe?

He's on Millburn Av. in that little complex of medical offices with the Yoga place in front. Just up from Whole Foods - past the light but before the turn.

It takes a few sessions and I think it runs around $1,000.

Seigel does it. I have not had it done...I asked about doing legs, etc, but ultimately realized it was too costly for me.

(I have to shave my legs everyday and waxing only lasts a week! Maybe if I did it consistently it would last longer but I have no patience these days.)

I couldn't read until the end since my panic attack is in nearly full gear.

I started using Oil of Olay (original, daily) at age 15 and used it pretty faithfully (through my stoner and dead years, even) and to this day, it's the "Serum" I use. Is there any chance in hell I helped my facial skin?

Should I stop and use something else?

Inquisitively yours,

Bets--I am impressed! Maybe we should all go to Bunny's, check each other's faces, see whose skin looks....oh, let's just have a beer.

VIG--I can't stand stubble, I HAVE to shave every day because of that. Or do your in-laws have very slow growing hair? Then, I am very jealous!

This is just stupid - I am returning the $150 cream. I am returning yours, too, Ess.

$318 for a freckle on my forehead? (A freckle the size of a cell phone, but a freckle nonetheless).

VIG and Red: I may have acne and hyperpigmentation, but I only have to shave once or twice a week!

My brother bought some $150 wrinkle cream (he's the Father of All Metrosexuals). Then, he admitted it to his dermatologist.

Events as the actually occurred (as reported by brother):

Doc, do you think this stuff will work?

Head whipping around, eyeballs popping, doc starts to reply. Opens mouth, closes, shakes his head and says nothing.

However, Renova, which actually is touted as being very effective, is $100 a tube, and not covered by insurance. Dermatologists prescribe it all the time. It's not just the cost of the cream, it's the source.

All that being said, if using whatever it is that you are using gives you peace of mind and a feeling that you are doing something healthy for your skin, isn't that somewhat worth it? I use Perfectionist everyday. Is it really attacking free radicals and rebuilding collagen and restoring elasticity? Who the F knows. I love the way it makes my skin look and feel, so for me it is completely worth the price tag.

Does anyone know anything about Hylexin? It claims that it is for severe dark circles (which I have).

The promo literature talks about "clinical trial results" but I cannot find records of those trials anywhere. Then again, I have only looked at the FDA. Does anyone know where it was developled?

Does the stuff work? Mine are genetic and pronounced because of surface veins. It has nothing to do with getting rest, etc.

I am letting myself age and freckle and speckle and grow hairier by the minute.
It horrifies me, but then I think, "If I don't provide the comparison point for others, they won't know how much more beautiful they are" I make you guys look good.

...plus, I have no $$$.

I am hoping they can just gimme a face transplant at some point.
Let's not even start with my breast augmentation dreams.

Stand next to me at your next party!!! Just $5, and guaranteed to make you look like the bell o the ball!

Speckles, I can beat you in a hideous complexion contest pores down.

I am definitely returning the $150 miracle cream, and at lunch I purchased a 2% hydroquinone product, Pigment of Your Imagination by Philosphy. (A Sephora opened a block away from my office last week. A block away!) It cost $30.

Even though I'm currently using other products I like, I think I am going to try Lizziecat's suggestion of Jason Vitamin E cream in tandem. Lizziecat has great skin, and that's the best testamonial.

Oh, Las, thank you. I've always looked younger than I am--due to genetics. I hated it when I was a young woman and everyone thought I was an "unwed mother" or my childrens' babysitter, but now, at 63, I guess I'm glad of it. I bet your current skin problems are the result of all the stress you've undergone this year. I'm sure it'll get better.

Update:

I've been using the 2% hydroquinone (Pigment of my Imagination by Philsophy) for five days now, not only on the cellphone sized blotch on my forehead, but also another area on my cheek. The spot on my cheek is most definitely a hyper-pig/melasma. I can tell because the surrounding area is now a bit red, likely from the bleaching agent.

However, the massive splotch on my forehead is inpenetrable. I think it's just a bunch of scars from years of breaking out, as opposed to a stain.

Based on my experience to date, if you have a hyper-pig/melasma, I would recommend the 2% hydroquinone, and I'm sure there are brands cheaper than the $30 bottle I purchased.

For people who know me, I am fully aware that I weigh seven hundred pounds, have frizzy hair and acne, so there is no need to ask why I am obsessing over a spot on my forehead that only I can see. It's just the way it is.
