I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I figured some techie's might be reading this section. My hard drive was just replaced by Gateway and my laptop is in "new" condition now. Before I sent it off, I copied the WHOLE hard drive's contents (data and programs and probably lots of junk) onto a portable hard drive which I've been using with the desktop machine in our house. Any suggestions on how to "restore" the new drive without burdening it with crap that I don't need, which may have contributed to its slowdown and ultimate failure in the first place? For example, I can't even get online or (wirelessly) network the machine with my existing system until I run various wizards, right? My operating system is Windows ME, and I have 192MG of RAM on the machine. It's running a Pentium chip from 3 years ago, but I don't remember its speed. Does anyone think I should upgrade to Windows XP? I don't want to have skads of compatibility problems with my old programs, which is why I never bothered to do that in the first place....
