BGS - My dad's name was Morrie..... As contemporary as Merv you might say
so while I "could" use it, we won't.

You could be really far out and name him Mars. I actually like it, though not so much with your last name.

But I really do like Morrison with your last name. Kind of like Harrison. Think about it, will ya?

I like Pipsqueak for the time being, but we are really attached to Mrbtabr.

VIG, I am going to let Morrison roll around on my tongue for a while. You think anyone will think we're just HUGE Doors fans?

So I went a little maternity clothes shopping today (Ran into my personal shoppers, ess and las, at MaSH! Thanks for helping me pick out clothes, ladies!)

I went into Pea in a Pod.
WHY would anyone spend so much money on clothes that they can't wear for more than one or two seasons? I was dismayed to see the prices of maternity clothes. I've already done the Old Navy and Target thing and was hoping for something a bit nicer, but that was ridiculous. A white ribbed tank for $50? I don't spend that much money on a tank I know I can wear for years!

Rant over.

I also objected to paying all that money... I know that some women want to go all out and spend a fortune but not me!!! check out motherhood.com - sales section, they normally have some good bits.

I did a lot of my maternity shopping (now 10-15 years ago) at Sears and also Bradlees (now defunct, but it had a rather good sized maternity selection. Walmart seems to be the closest current counterpart although I know nothing of their maternity line, if any.) I agree - why pay all that money? The only exception I made, which may not apply as much these days, was to invest in several nice professional outfits for work, as I was in an office where you definitely needed to "dress for success."

Be sure to check out local thrift shops as well as sales such as the Turnover Sale at Morrow Church coming up in the next couple of weeks as well as the Rummage Sale at Prospect Church at the end of summer. There are almost always some good maternity finds that are dirt cheap at those sales.

Similar sized friends and relatives are also good sources at times ... maybe some MOLers will be ready to clean out (or loan from) that part of their closets? I'm afraid mine are long gone, though, so I can't help that way.

Good luck!

I literally lived in overalls. Granted, not everyone wants to look like a farm hand all the time, but it worked for me. Never got maternity overalls, they didn't work with my long torso. Just bought bigger ones. Actually, I'm wearing a pair now. (Doing stuff in the house.)

I think the new maternity jeans are great. I never bought one pair of maternity jeans. They seemed horrible back then.

I also wore a lot of big shirts and sweats. Basically I was a disgusting slob!

Pip,
When my sis was prognant she found lots of cool ridiculously cheap maternity clothes at that used kids clothes store on Ridgewood Road by Teenage Wasteland - they are pre-owned if you don't mind that, but she really found some nice stuff.

Pippi - Morrow's turnover sale is just around the corner - believe it or not, they get some really nice things. Maybe BGS could get you an inside track for Maternity wear.

I can't wait for the turnover sale! Great idea!
BGS, you there? any scoop?

I plan to check out the thrift shop on Ridgewood, too. Problem is they don't have great hours for me.

I did get a bunch of stuff from some girlfriends who had babies in the last year. It was a windfall, probably saved me lots of money.

Pipi and Notehead. i know this is off topic and a little late, but you can get solar shingles instead of panels. They integrate into the roof.

Congratulations!

I used cloth diapers and disposable at first. The services are expensive. You can get the clothies with velcro. Lamed out though pretty soon after #1 and turned to disposable. Guilt.

With the breast feeding: It was INCREDIBLY painful at first for me, but the pain if you experience it only lasts aobut 3 days. Just keep that in mind and you'll get through it. I introduced the baba with my first daughter too soon and she neve went back to the boob. My son, however shows no sighn of wanting to banish boobing, and I'm more the weary. We even tried a boob-shaped bottle for him early on (ridiculous as that sounds). Different strokes for different kids, I guess.

Congrats!!

I recently noticed that Target sells maternity clothes that are not half bad. When I was pregnant I bought the Belly in a Box (or something like that), which was a pack of items -- skirt, pants, tops -- in stretcy fabric. I lived in that. Not sure if it's still on the market, but at that time Bloomingdale's sold it in the hosiery department.

If you are interested, I have some stuff that I was planning to put on the classifieds -- matching bumper/crib skirt set, nursery lamps, and possibly a baby dresser. PL me if you have any interest.

Shoshannah - Thanks.. I will PL you!
I did get some stuff at Target. It's cute and cheap. Not the most fashionable, but certainly serviceable.

JML - Thanks for the tip. I will def check it out! You might be hearing me if I have any questions about "alternative birthing". Nice to meet you saturday night!

Also, Albee's on the Upper West side has great prices. They deliver everywhere, so you can pick out what you want and then call Albee's to price it and order it. All of the old-time baby stores like Albee's and Goldfingers will deliver your order after the baby is born (the Jewish way). They know the drill. Same with ordering the layette. The store holds it for you until you deliver. Then your mother or sister or close friend (VIG?) picks it up for you and puts everything in the baby's room, all ready for your return home (except for one going-home outfit)!

Have Pippi or Notehead been playing any particular music during the pregnancy? If so I'd be curious to know what tunes and why. If too personal that's ok.

I am having serious acne issues.
I can't use salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide (I just found out by doing a little Google research) .

Does anyone have anything to recommend? I am at my wits end. The humid weather hasn't been helping...

HELP!!!

salicylic acid is considered dangerous since it is "ingested" through pores (I think).
Not as dangerous at Accutane or Retin-A, but still on the list of "No, you can't use this"

I am doubling checking benzoyl peroxide since I found conflicting information on the web.

I thought BP was OK to use. Did not realize salicylic acid was verboten, but it makes sense, since it is the same ingredient as aspirin, and aspirin is to be avoided as well.

What about toothpaste on the blemishes (just at night)?

Also, how about a milk of magnesia mask? (Don't laugh; I have been studying this very topic, as you know.)
