Geez, who can make a choice?? There are so many great threads on MOL that I know will be useful information to have in the future, but which we have no use for at this time. I need to start bookmarking them... this is a particularly good one about child proofing the house. I am guessing we are about a year away from needing to do this, but who wants to go digging through the archives? /discus/messages/3135/122124.html?1152207674 |

Hello Pippi & Notehead, Congrats, don't know you (except for the board) but very happy for you. I'm in the middle of moving and have a stack of preg/baby books (everything from "What to Expect When You're Expecting" to the best baby names etc.). I'd be happy to drop them off somewhere for you (or you could pick them up) if you are interested. Just contact me offline & we can arrange. For the record, I not only snored when I was pregnant, I hummed. It was bizarre. I would wake myself up doing this descending scale hum that would end in a miss piggy-ish snort. Lovely. You are in for the biggest adventure! Hooray! |

thanks, Oregon Gal. I'll PL you. The mrbtabr is on the way to being multi-lingual. It was suggested by several friends that Notehead read to mrtabr. I thought he might choose Dr Seuss or some other childhood favorite. Nope. Tonight he chose the Eheim Professional Wet/Dry Canister Filter manual, which is written in 4 languages. He figured the mrbtaber would have a good head start. He started with Nederlander; tomorrow, Swedish.

CONGRATS. Capricorns are the most fun because they tend to be the most odd. :D EDIT:: to clarify I meant your child will most likely be a Capricorn :D |

Beware of used baby books. We bought one at a garage sale that discussed the etiqutte of smoking in the labor room! "If you share your room with another laboring mother, you should ask before lighting a cigarette." We were very skeptical of all the other advice in that book, but it was good for info about drinking while pregnant and breastfeeding. Another trick for finding a good doctor is calling the new baby nursery and asking the nurse who answers the phone to give an anonymous referral, or ask who they use. They know. J.B. |

Or for humorless people in general. It is amazing how *deadly serious* some people get once you have a baby. Practice that vacant smile w/ Zen breathing you will reserve for when these lovely folks start telling you why everything you're doing is WRONG, all wrong. Otherwise, you might be tempted to kill them, and the lawyer bills would definitely set that college-saving plan a few years behind. And it's odd, because I think a sense of humor is possibly the most valuable thing you can bring to your parenting. Followed very closely by a sense of proportion .... generally lacking in the same people who lack a sense of humor ... |

CLK - I couldn't agree more ...even though I have never been a parent and what do I know ?
I laughed a lot with my own parents. One of the things I cherished most about my father was his sense of humor. Notehead and I laugh a lot. (well, he cracks the jokes, I laugh) I am looking forward to laughing a lot with Notehead and our child. Not so sure we have a sense of proportion but who cares if we're laughing??!!

CLK is right... If I had listened to (paid attention to!) 50% of what I was being told I was doing wrong, I would probably have broken down completely. Everyone has opinions - pippi, you and notehead will do everything you can for the baba, you will learn through experience, you will learn through watching others, and you will learn from people you trust...you will also come up with wild and wiggy ideas of how to do things and 2.38am when all normal routes have failed and it will work a treat (remember to hand on the wild and wiggy advice to friends down the line, if nothing else it will give them a laugh!) Your baba will be dearly loved, fed, clean, played with, kissed and cuddled and made to feel the most precious thing in the world, and the 3 of you will learn a lot together. SOP |

opinions, schminions, that's what I say. I pretty much take everything with a grain of salt. if the mrbtabr is happy and loved, then nothing we do is "wrong" (unless we use duct tape as a muzzle, which I heard works wonders..)

...until you have to remove it. Regarding the opinions of pushy types, well, hopefully we won't have to deal with that too often but when people do get in our face about something or other related to the baby, I'll have no compunctions about giving them a friendly smile and telling them where they can stick it.

Notehead and I have done nothing to prepare for the arrival of the Mrbtabr. Granted, we're talking December here, but I am wondering what the time frame for doing certain things is. I just don't know when we should start thinking about furniture and strollers and car seats and layettes. I know if we want to have the furniture on order and ready for delivery right after I give birth, we should plan to order it 9-12 weeks in advance. That puts us in early october. what about the other stuff? Is it too soon to even be thinking about it? Feels like it to me, but my mom brought it up tonight, so I am throwing it out there. Also, child care.... If we plan to put the child in day care at 4 months (april-may), by when do we need to choose a place? |

Hello Pippi & Notehead.....I hope you guys are honored, as this is my FIRST MOL post EVER!! (Can you believe that after living here for 3+ years, I'm STILL a virgin?!?!?!?) Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know how happy K & I were to hear about Mrbtabr. Hopefully, one day soon, we will be equally as blessed as you are. I will talk to you after the cape....xxoo, me. P.S. Pip.....Thank goodness Jack doesn't qualify as an "M" name. That's right up there with "John Jacob"!!! Thanks for the laugh, though. I really needed it. |

I'm not too worried about preparations for the mrbtabr. As far as I can tell, all we need are two boxes. We put the baby in one box. We put every cent we make into the other box. |

The baby can't grow if we keep it in a box - not enough light

exactly. And how can the money shrink? There will be no room for clothes, toys or other gadgets in the box. I think we have our solution.

Actually, I know of a play house, ground level that is available. I'm sure the rent is cheap. I hope no running water is not a problem. No bathrooms either, but you have a while til Mrbtabr is potty trained. |

I love this stroller. (Ohmygod, did I just say that?) The "Xplory" by Stokke. It's ridiculously expensive and doesn't have features that some others do, but it has the amazing feature of bringing the baby closer to mom and dad, so he or she is (supposedly) more comforted and more engaged by the surroundings. And, it's very versatile and it looks uber-cool, which goes a long way with me!

I am sorry but that thing looks like it would tip easy. That would totally freak me out. He is not pushing the baby onto tracks Glock he is going down two steps onto a beach (See the palmtrees in the background). |
