Tom, the latest in brain research shows that even 30 mins of exercise once a week does amazing things for neural connections that permanently affect mood, thinking, perception, spatial relationships (that influence balance and stability later when you're much MUCH older). Exercise more frequently, and in different ways and you're doing well. I have such faith that something wonderful will turn up in a surprising way, and it will be the right thing for the new you incubating now. (You can tell I've been there too, eh?!) I just hope the journey doesn't seem to take too long. Glad you can enjoy your gift of the Present time!! J in Howlong XXX |

It's no job, but we have new neighbors & the hubby apparently likes to ride his bike. I told his wife that I know a guy around the corner who he might like to connect with on that. Let me know if you want to go knock on their door. |

Well I must say that the company that eventually hires Tom will be getting a very competent professional person. I had the pleasure of working with him on a project today, which will hopefully continue for a while. I’ll keep my eyes peeled to see if he refers to me as a Cow-worker. |

It's a pleasure, Brett. I wasn't sure you wanted to mention this stuff here. Your colleague (nope, not gonna use that word now) said I look like a doctor. Could it be because I wear my glasses on a leash, which somehow reminds him of a stethoscope around the neck?

I think it may have been the fact that your shirt has a collar and was tucked in on a Friday. The guy next to you isn’t wearing socks, and the guy near the server room is in Flip flops. They guy who said it is in jeans and sneakers, and we just got back from a 1.5 hour lunch. Like I said, we're pretty flexable around here. |

Only if you like to take a 1.5 hour lunch. And I'm glad to see that Tom didn't mention that there was 1/2 of a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka on the desk where I set him up (I just noticed it). We'll have to take care of that today. |

Lunch was at Nordstrom’s to see the new Tommy Bahama shirts. So don't worry there wasn't much eating involved. I guess I should go get a sandwich now |

I served jury duty today. All kinds of things have prevented me from serving until today. I was actually excited to do it, and other than this little consulting gig I have, it seems that being unemployed and serving jury duty are quite compatible. Many there seemed to find it excruciating, but I actually enjoyed the suspense of being on a panel. It looked like I made it to a jury on a criminal trial, but at the last minute, the defense attorney gave me a peremptory challenge. I like how thorough the judges are, in quest of fairness. What they do is fairly routine, but they really put their hearts and minds into it. I have to go back tomorrow, as we're in the middle of another jury selection. If they don't select me tomorrow, I'm done with duty. The civil case we're currently selecting for is expected to finish trial on Thursday or Friday.

As a youngster (younger than I now am at least) I always considered jury duty to be an unfair intrusion into my private life (I couldn't smoke, I couldn't move about of my own free will, who were *they* to say what and where *I* had to be, etc.), but now I look at it from another angle. Who would I want on a jury should I be in the defendant's seat? I'd want intelligent and smart-thinking people and if all of us duck out who's left? Thank you to my friend the judge who helped change my perspective on this. Jury duty should be called jury privilege. |

Hi Tom, thought I'd check in. I am currently in the same boat as you are, except for a lot longer and sans jury duty. It sounds like you are doing due diligence and are really well-qualified and should find something even better soon. I found that when I stopped working at first, my body shut down. Backaches, headaches, stomachaches, etc. Now that I am settled into a new routine, that's all gone. Mostly. Anyway, wanted to wish you well and hope that you find something soon. You seem to be really positive! |

That definitely occurred to me, but I don't think there's anything (or at least not much) that I've said online that would make me look bad to a prospective employer. If there is something, please let me know!

Not to worry, the search function on MOL is so spotty that it is unlikely anyone could find it. So, how is it going these days? Any activity and leads? Thinking good positive thoughts for you, Mark |

I was worried, too, when I saw that headline. But after reading the article, I'm not. It's probably an article that every college student should read, tho. Tom, as long as you don't have a naked photo spread on MySpace, you should be OK. |

Thanks for your good wishes, everyone. I'm taking a break from searching and working this week, to prepare for my daughter's bat mitzvah service and reception. Wow, what a lot of work that is! We're looking forward to it. Everything seems to be in place now. There will be about 90 people at the reception for family and friends. Then at night, we will have a dance party for my daughter and 79 of her closest friends.

Hope it was meaningful & fun! On the jury note (I was behind & just caught up now), you might enjoy a book called "Anatomy Of A Jury"...I read it a long time ago in law school & thought it was interesting: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0140098518/ref=ed_oe_p/002-6006031-7363205?%5Fe ncoding=UTF8 |
