Hey, VIG - you know, the nice part about your sister getting engaged is that you can plan another outfit around those sexy gold thongs. |

So there is a lot going on in the house of Vig. Weddings galore! We are preparing for my bother's upcoming wedding. Thanks to Hediye from Gifted Thimble, my dress which was probably a size or so too big, will not fall to the floor and as an added bonus, she's giving me some cleavage. Barbie, look out! I think my gold chandelier earrings will get some sneers from my brother and his beloved. I wore them to a family function this weekend and individually they both commented on my bling. ($15 from nordstrom's sale rack.) I won't even bother commenting on my shoes...I hope they pass the test, but I have no intention of revealing them until I show up for photos 1:30 pm on the big day. Got makeup from Mac yesterday in the MaSH, I really like it but makeup artists can be so, y'know...I spent plenty of money and to hear, "oh, you're NOT getting the bronzer/blush/lip treatment/eye cream." (I have plenty already and can't see having two of almost the same...) And, he gave me the wrong lipstick so I have to return that! I do like the look though, so I will recreate it for the big day. My sister got a gorgeous wedding ensemble for her upcoming nuptials at Calvary Bridal in Millburn. Wonderful experience there. It was by far the most pleasant dress shopping day we had, and she went to about 5 places including Kleinfeld and Priscilla of Boston. Next we need to find my maid o' honor dress, luckily she's letting me choose and the othert maids will match or coordinate, she's easy. (In a way.)

Vig/Shh I just PL'd you about something totally irrelevant but just wanted to say as a guy coming in late to this blog, it makes me so happy to see you write with such unabashed joy. Almost everything you have posted on this page of the blog, and the replies, are full of a happiness and boisterous mood that is so infectious. And that is indeed a gorgeous ring. WoW. I am not sending my wife to this thread..LOL though she has a nice simple ring that was made from a ring my mother's mother had that was 7 diamonds on a missile. (basically) so my mom gave me three of the nicest stones, moderated her own ring to a less gaudy size and I took the three to a great jeweler in Boston and he did a nice job. Then for our 10th anniversary I had the stones reset in platinum. But what a happy thread, I am so glad I stumbled on it today.

Thanks Duncan. I appreciate those comments! I wish I could say I was always happy...like a lot of sagittarians I go pretty up and down (and that's about all I know re: astrology!) But, I do know I am very, very fortunate to have my husband, kids and my family. My husband & I have been together since graduating HS and I still adore him. If you can be with someone for twenty years and that person still makes you giggle, I'd say it's a good thing. Plus, he goes along with (almost) all my decorating ideas. |

The latest with the upcoming wedding...my bro and sis-in-law auditioned for some Comedy Central thing where I suppose they make fun of your wedding. They called my cousin and asked a million questions and said they are coming to the rehearsal bbq (at my parents' house!) on Sunday. My sister is flipping out. she doesn't want to be made fun of wearing the blue dress! She is worried they are going to make fun of the Jewish-Italian combo and elderly relatives. Supposedly mom is not too thrilled either...50k for a wedding to have it made fun of??? I don't care, if they get on the show they get some kind of stipend. Then I won't worry about my gift! (And I assume they can't make fun of you on TV without your consent.) |

I'm surprised Bridezilla could handle having her wedding made fun of... She has seemed to take it all a bit too seriously. I can't wait to hear about it!

Too seriously??? Ya think? The invitation to this rehearsal BBQ included responsibility cards for The Flower Girl and The Groomsmen! "Walk down aisle and toss flower petals. Participate in Photo Opportunities with Bridal Party Entourage..."

I know. My mom is so upset, she said if they want comedy central there to do the rehearsal at HER parents' house, my mom doesn't want to be scrutinized. My mom had a conversation with my brother about it expressing her feelings. He said CC would only be there for the CEREMONY. So, they'll make fun of what? The breaking of the glass? The priest next to the rabbi? My sister in law doesn't get it and of course will do the opposite of what we're saying. My mother said she looked into every detail, the matchng shoes, dresses, the tiara for the flower girl and then she'd allow herself to be poked fun of on tv? BZ said "isn't it every girls dream to have her Big Day on TV?" ???????? See what I'm dealing with? They're not normal. |

Pippi, she is so naive, I think most humor/satire/sarcasm goes right over her head. And meanwhile, my mom as been cleaning her house (no help) in preparation for this rehearsal BBQ. BZ doesn't lift a finger, though my brother is helpful, my mom has put herself out there so much you would expect a little more respect. Oh, and did I mention they are going to Vegas the weekend BEFORE the wedding? It was supposed to be his bachelor party, then she decided to tag along so everyone else backed out. Now they're going for a pre-wedding trip (and then to Mexico for the honeymoon). I am so puzzled.

Don't spend too much on the gift. I give the marriage 5 years. I feel less sorry for your family about the CC than I do for what's coming in terms of having a person this selfish in the family. |

GT, please. I asked my sister what she was giving..she's getting married a few months later. She said they initially weren't going to exchange, but since his father-in-law (BZ's dad) put the down payment on their house— (HIS idea, I guess he had a few hundred grand he needed to spend...bought 3— for 2 of his daughters and their grandfather, all little semi-attached houses in SI) —the father-in-law was bugging him for the money back and he needs all the money from the wedding to pay him back. She said ouor other (wealthier!)brother was gving $1000 so she thought she might too!!! I said there's no way I'm able to give them $1000!!! The clothes for the wedding for the 5 of us (about $700 or so), the engagement gift ($250) the shower gift ($100) the bachelor party (OVER $400, don't even ask), I thought $500 would be FINE, not my fault they decided to do everything so over the top. My mom said not to worry about it, and trust me, I won't. Oh, and for the bachelor party besides a day of golf, dinner at bro's friend's restaurant, they rented a party bus and went to a strip club and then had to go to the VIP room of another club. WE know about the strip club but no one is allowed to tell BZ!!! I am not thrilled with the strip club thing, but c'mon. My future brother-in-law told me he was speaking to one of the girls and said she just graduated from NYU. So, I know the details of the lap dances but BZ can't know they even went there. I can be a tough cookie, let me tell you. But she takes the cake.

Wow - I now understand how Steven Colbert gets people to still sit down with him for an "interview" on Comedy Central. I always wondered "Do these people KNOW what kind of show this is?....that it's not going to be serious? that they'll be made a fool of on TV???? Now I see that some people completely ignore that. Vig - give what you want to and can afford to give - definitely shouldn't feel pressured into giving over the top. This story is amazing....please keep it coming. |

BGS, funny you should ask. I got shoes I really like. Got them for $30 in Jersey Gardens. They are very flattering on my sort of wide feet. My mom liked them so much she bought them with brown trim to match her dress. I decided not to even ask BZ's approval. Last week she asked and I told her I got clear shoes with gold trim and "they look very delicate, just what you wanted." Then my sister asked if I got earrings. These were the earrings I wore to a family reunion that both BZ and Bro commented were "bling." So, I was wearing them last week too (I like them!) and BZ looks over at me and I said "oh, yeah, the earrings I'm wearing...don't they look nice? Gold with a little sparkle to match the dress." What could she say? I hate them??? I gave my sister quite a look. |

I also have to say, I do love my brother. We are very different, like oil and water really, but he has a big heart. He is an amazing uncle to my kids, and a great brother-in-law too, just missing a dose of reality. (If he ever finds this...) His wife, I like her a lot. She's just been totally transformed by this whole wedding thing. We really didn't think she had it in her!

They "decided" against the Comedy Central thing. I think they thought there might be some money (or a honeymoon) in it for them, but if there was some sort of prize for allowing them to make fun of the wedding CC wasn't letting them know ahead of time. The parental disapproval probably weighed in strongly on that decision. The bbq was nice, I actually saw dear SIL get up off her behind to help once or twice. My brother unfortunately had to leave for work that night but a lot of his friends and others stayed on. His friends are typical 20 something SI/Brooklynesque guys, sort of macho, well-groomed, nice cars, tattoos, totally into their "boys"...they'd do anything for each other. And unfortunately over the past few years I think two of their friends passed away, so they share a very strong bond. My husband and my sister's fiance, had a lot of fun with these guys at the bachelor party and were enjoying their company that night. after the "boys" left they were talking about how they want to get together with them again and I said "great, so you can go to a strip club again?" My sister and husband glared at me. SIL just so happened to walk out (she was picking up!) as I said it. I said it above, but in case you're not following that closely, she would be very upset if she knew my brother went to the strip club, I believe she said she'd call off the wedding or soemthing. My sister then went upstairs for awhile. When she came back down, I asked if SIL heard. She said yes, I was up there consoling her, she's been crying. Her fiance and I were like, no way! Finally she gave it up, she was just up there eating. She didn't hear. Whew. I'd hate to be responsible for the breakup of their wedding before they even went on the prehoneymoon to Vegas! When I went upstairs, SIL pulled up her tank revealing a full (from eating) tan belly (with belly ring of course) and asked if that's how she'd look pregnant. |

We know that movie all too well. Mr. Vig moved to Heartland Village in 1985...his parent's house is probably identical to the house in the movie. His parents' YARD is identical to the one in the movie! My brother has a smaller version of that house in Travis, right by the movie theater. Matter of fact, across the street is the back lot! Next to him is the mountaneous dump, which he insists will raise his property value when it becomes a huge park or golf course or ski slope or something! |

Countdown to Saturday! So, bro and SIL came back from their pre-wedding trip to Vegas. SIL said she didn't realize it would be the way it was, all gambling. Bro most definitely has issues, he can't pass a convenience store without buying scratch offs. I'm sure there was a lot of arguing. I've never been to Vegas, but what do you do all day? The sun is so hot to lie by the pool all day, according to my mom, and shopping is very expensive. So you go to a show at night, eat, and gamble. Let's hope future decisions will be more well thought out. |

The Vegas Strip is nauseating if you don't like to gamble. I was just there and found the best things to do were Cirque du Soleil, Red Rock Canyon, eat at Memphis BBQ, and of course, not to be missed -- The Liberace Museum (it's a crack up). They do have a lot of great restaurants on the strip though and I have to admit, I liked the Bellagio fountain. Otherwise, it's like spending days in a mall. I don't gamble because I really really stink at it and can't keep the rules straight. I even get flustered with slots. I can fake my way through Blackjack, but I fully expect to lose everything I put on the table....and do. I can't wait to hear about the wedding!!! |

Countdown...three days! Gulp! I have a gigantic zit under my chin. One of those horrible, hard cystic things. Pippi suggested I go to my derm which would be smart, but instead I have been covering it with all my potions and NOT PICKING it. It has definitely shrunk somewhat, so let's hope it's ok. I also desperately need to get my eyebrows done. I am afraid to go Saturday when I get my hair done because my skin is sensitive and I can end up really red. I can go Fri. if I go get my nails done, but Ess' GREAT WAXING INCIDENT of 2006 scares me. My kids are home this week which has really been nice, but it's hard to get too much done. I am packing the older 2 for sleepaway, packing the house (or really just staring at boxes and hoping they'll pack themselves!) and trying to use up all the food in the freezer and pantry. Gotta go get some espresso. (Probably not helping the zit thing.)

Shh - do not... repeat... do not.. have your eyebrows done at the same location as your nails (unless it's a spa or Garubo's). I made the mistake of having mine done at the place your nails turned blue after spraying with the quick dry....eeeekkkk!! |
