I was told here is a 4 star chef who has an invite only dinner group at his home, twice monthly. How do you get on his list? |

Ross, do you happen to be that chef? Drumming up business? I've generally found that the best way to get a dinner invite is to know the host. |

Sorry - we get those first time posters who are so overcome with joy about a business (with which they have no affiliation) that they simply must join MOL and create an objective buzz. Weird; I clicked the window closed before I hit "post" and my first post still ended up on the thread. Oh well. VIG - that's funny, but I wouldn't touch that one with a ten foo... never mind. |

It's me. Invitations are given out to winners of my Russian roulette game that runs Sunday evenings in Memorial Park. |

I, for one, am tired of having to step around dead bodies in Memorial Park--why don't you petition the Town to have a Russian Roulette park set up near the pool on that strip of open grass, near the skatepark? |

This is the best kept secret in Maplewood....If you know the chef or his wife and express an interest in food you get a one time invitation for dinner......If you want to come back you buy a subscription to a few dinners, which are truly unbelievable tasting menus....There are only 10 people at each dinner and they are wild fun....The trick is getting an invite as most of the dinners are booked 2 years out...I went once with my Husband and twice with a girlfriend and cannot believe the incredible meals and fun we have had...The only drawback is if you miss a scheduled dinner you are still required to pay for your seat unless you sell it to someone else on the list and that gets very dicey...my friend did that and has not been invited back since....ps the subscripton is expensive, but for what you get it is cheap by NY standards. |

New MOL rules... you get a username... and you post once a day.... you can have someone else post for you... but if they don't post and you don't post, you lose your login (but still have to pay). Pretty dicey stuff here. The trick is getting a login and then maintaining it and paying me a lot of money every week. It becomes, you know, a regular honor to write me a check or transfer over some stocks, CDs, whatever. Optionally, you can fill up my car's gas tank and have it washed. Also, I need some lawn work done. |

I apologize, all. But, I did receive the following mysterious PL from someone calling themselves "Sandra Lee": Dear Greenetree, OK, so I was engaging in a thinly-veiled, not-so-clever-act of self promotion. Irregardlessly, I am the World's Most Magnificent Chef (with the help of a few prepackaged items). You have caused your compatriots to miss out on the following: To start: porcs dans une couverture served with a delicately spiced reduction du Hellman's Accompanying wine: Boone's Farm raspberry, 1998 First course: soupe de nouilles de poulet Accompanying wine: Ruinite on ice (tastes nice) Second course: bātons de mozzarella drizzled in essence of marinara Accompanying wine: Beer goes best with this dish; either Genny Cream Ale or Rolling Rock, depending on the season. All for the low, low price of $74.95 per person. Perhaps I shall try to strike again with a more clever approach. If you see a thread in Please Help by a new poster named Rachel Ray, entitled "lost my ticket to secret chef dinner; $25 reward" I suggest that you bite. Sincerely yours, etc. etc. So, my fellow MOLers, I deeply, truly apologize for blowing this opportunity for you. |

"Perhaps I shall try to strike again with a more clever approach." Or perhaps you should try and just be truthful so that people on this board don't hate you for being sneakier than a sleazy car salesman trying to sell 3 layers of undercoat paint. You may already be too late. |

I love this thread. Honestly, it could have worked if this person just started posting for a couple weeks about unrelated topics... Nice job by greentree by calling this one right away. The Lilly Westbrook reply is the best part though. The only other person who has heard of this just happens to be new to this board as well? come on! Think before you market yourself like that. Build a relationship with the people on this board, and most likely they would have been happy to support such a venture. Now you ruined it.

The power of MOL is a funny thing. I've heard many anecdotal stories about businesses getting more business than they can sometimes handle from MOL word of mouth. And it's true, people who join up and become "known" seem to do well. It's just a matter of waiting to get that break from a trusted MOLer who patronizes the new business and then publicizes it. And we are a prickly bunch; we don't like being manipulated or being treated like we are stupid. Be up front, be helpful. Ask people like George Berkley, Master Plumber, Mike McKell, Sherri de Rose and Millie A. And no, I am not trying to say that without MOL, these people would not have successful businesses. |
