Millburn car wash just advised me that the stuff that didn't come off on my new (less than 1000 miles) car is in fact tar, not dirt, and can be removed only with tar remover and compounding (estimate: $75)!

Our street and the surrounding streets were recently "microsurfaced". I was extremely concerned about any impact this might have on my then 2 day old car when I learned the day before repairs started that the town was again going to "fix" the streets. The last time South Orange had done any major street repair in my neighborhood, it was what I think was called "chip and fill", an awful process where pebbles flew everywhere for weeks. The contractor assured me that would not happen with this process. I followed all directions posted for the time roads here were being repaired - and my car has still been damaged. I am really angry. Town hall is closed today for Veteran's Day (I marched right down there with the estimate). Suggestions?}
