I noticed this morning, for at least the 4th or 5th time, someone parking in the SOMS parking lot, facing the duck pond and then casually walking thru the parking lot, presumably to the train. This time I was more vigilant and took his plate number and vehicle descrioption. I will pass it along to the BOE, who I understand is responsible for this, though I'm sure they will not do anything.

Maybe they were just going to get coffee or something to eat downtown before school. Next time, why don't you introduce yourself and if you find out they are not a school employee tell them they can't park there. Why the need to call the principal?????

The principal is the person responsible for the parking at the school. And odds are, vermontgolfer is correct and it is probably a commuter who should not be parking there.

Sylad has a spot in the NJT lot. I am thinking that it would be nice to talk to the person as opposed to have them towed.

Ok, but I think most who park there know what they are doing is wrong and it is ok to notify the proper authority.
By the way, I like the idea of using the third person when posting about oneself.

sylad,

I'll be most happy to confront the person the next time I see him and since the car has been in the lot since I first posted this, I suspect I'll get the opportunity very soon, don't think I won't, just hope you have a spot in NJT and it's not you.

Fact is, I think I know who it is and as I said, not to worry, I'll deal with it. If you'd like to know the make of car and license plate feel free to private line me and I'll share it with you, unless of course you know who it is.

By the way, I didn't call the princpal, I contacted the person in charge of such matters.

Good for you, perhaps you can just say hi, is there really a need to confront. Innocent until..how does that saying go??????

Do you normally use the SOMS parking lot, vermontgolfer? Is parking usually scarce in that lot?

Tom,

I have had a SO Village parking permit for over 15 years. I maintained it for many years when I was not even travelling to NYC because I knew how difficult it was to get one. My original post refers to what I witnessed when dropping off my son at SOMS just about every day. The same car continues to park in the lot and I know for a fact it is someone commuting via train.

How did your conversation with the owner of the car go?

This is why I don't think I'll ever get a town permit. For $200 a year, you'd be crazy to ever give it up. Even if you only use it half the year, it's still way worth it.

MANS BODY FOUND IN MIDDLE SCHOOL LOT

- Special to MOL – The body of Vermont Golfer, 38, of South Orange was discovered early yesterday morning in the north east corner of the parking lot behind South Orange Middle School on Ridgewood Road. Mr. Golfer had been shot a close range. South Orange and Essex County Homicide Squad detectives are investigating and believe that the shooting may have arisen out of a parking dispute. When asked if there were any suspects, Essex County Detective Sergeant John Doe replied, “no comment, but we are investigating some leads”.

Paddy: The number of permits issued is based on utilization numbers, not actual number of permits out there. This way SOPA collects a few extra dollars. Surprising as it might seem, there are not a lot of people who do what VG did.

bobk,

Very good, got a good laugh from that one. BTW, you flatter me with my 'reported' age, I only could wish!

sylad,

Haven't seen the driver yet and interestingly today I didn't even see the car.

If you haven't seen the driver how do you know for a "fact" that he/she is parking there and taking the train?

sylad,

trust me when I tell you I know who it is and I have seen the driver just not since you last scolded me for saying I would 'confront' them, and no, I'm not naming names on line. Should I continue to see this particular vehicle, I will once again notify the proper authorities and sylad, please rest assured, I will politely 'confront' the individual.

duncan,

me thinks you're on to something!
