Not sure if this qualifies as dining, but I'll give it a try--what are some good places for takeout food in M'wood/South Orange? We've done Bill & Harry's and Village Trattoria to death, and are ready for something new when we're too lazy to cook...perhaps even a place that might deliver? |

New World Catering in Maplewood. In SO, Cafe Arugula, Hunan Garden (a little takeout hole-in-the-wall - much better than Bill & Harry's), Neelam , Reservoir. Don't think any of them deliver. Great Wall delivers, and I think Mazar and Blue Moon do, too. Think you can also do take-out from Libretti's. |

For Mexican, Carmelita's Cafe on Maplewood Ave. is fantastic. (They do take-out but don't deliver.) Arturo's, also on Maplewood Ave. right near Baker St. has great brick oven pizza and also does a nice job with hot and cold subs and salads. They deliver: 973-378-5800 We like Ling Ling's in Millburn for Chinese. They deliver: 973-912-8838. http://www.lingling.com/ New World is pricey but the food is excellent. We also recently started picking up takeout from the Mapleleaf Diner. Their hamburgers travel surprisingly well.

I really like the guy at Carmelita's but I certainly would not call his food fantastic, sad to say. Tinga in Millburn is much better, though still not great, and they deliver. Church's is awesome (Fried chicken, ribs and all the sides, not health food but yum.) Be warned I think they close earlyish, like 8pm. Burnett BBQ on Burnett (and Springfield Ave someday?) Is also good more Portugese style BBQ. We've also gotten food from Mazar Kabab house on Irvington Ave in SO a few times. Portions of meat are a little small but pretty good. People have spoken well of the new Caribbian place on 1st street in SO but I have not gotten around to trying it yet.

Island Spice on Springfield Ave in Maplewood is good. It's homestyle Jamaican food, which I'm pretty unfamiliar with. We had some fish dish, which was spiced nicely. They have some really strange drinks in the fridge. My wife and I tried two. Mine was based on oatmeal. I really tried to like it but failed. Oatmeal in a bottle is no better than oatmeal with a bowl and spoon. I agree that Tinga in Millburn is good. Tom Reingold There is nothing

Weve ordered take out from the St. James Gate. Burgers were good to go. Check out Mannys texas weiners accross from Home depot.. Dont let the name fool you. Manny's is like a diner only better. Their salads are huge, Burgers juicy, gyro's are top notch and the service is great. |

Any one else like the Jamaican food at J&J on Valley St. in SO (near the Pathmark)? I'm quite partial to their jerked chicken and pork. Takeaway, but I don't think they deliver.

Also, House of Plenty in Union. They do all types of food, specifically confort foods, stuff that Mom made, only 10 times better. ( I don't know about carribean). Not only are they take out, but they do a lot of catering. A friend of mine had them cater her Christmas dinner. The food is scrumptious. I know people who travel all the way form Bergen county to get take out from them. |

Where is House of Plenty located? Is it take out only? Question about carribean food.....why must there always be bone shards floating around in it? I admit, the flavors can be intriguing, but spitting out pieces of bone every few minutes gives me a yucky Neanderthal sort of feeling. |

i second jay's grill on springfield... they have the best burgers, and on those lazy nights, we love having them deliver. island spice, also on springfield... their jamacian patties (chicken and beef) are amazingly good and cheap. perfect addition to a cold beer and bad sci-fi movie.

Does anyone remember what the name of Jayes Grille was before it became Jayes? It drives my crazy everytime I pass it. |

Mima & Pipa's? Jay was the owner (store was named after his grandparents) - originally was a pizzaria/deli - he got rid of the pizza ovens and expanded the deli menu and changed the name to Jay's Grill a couple of years ago. And..... he make the BEST milkshakes!! |

DEFINITELY try Caribean Cuisine on First in South Orange. Best Roti I have had ever, hands down. It's a new place and they have been kind of struggling through the winter, so please help support this excellent restaurant. |

Tip, Jayes Grille used to be James Inn. My kid delivered for them when he was in high school. |
