CBS and MTV are owned by Viacom, which is in debt to Bush Industries (aka Bush Administration) for allowing them to consolidate Big Media. The FCC is chaired by Michael Powell (Colin's son).

What do you think this is REALLY about?

Hint: Distraction!!

Dave, I hope you said that tongue-in-cheek as the merger of CBS and Viacom occurred in Sept. of '99.

Is everything a vast Bush conspiracy theory?

Let's not forget the desecration of the Flag.

As I have always understood it, US Flag code specifically forbids the use of a flag as clothing. While I know there have been court challenges, and laws such as the Flag Protection Act have been struck down by the Supreme Court, I see it as downright insulting that flag ettiquette should be so blatantly ignored. While "Kid Rock's" presentation may have been intended as some sort of salute or acknowledgement of the nation's pride in self - he did take a flag that had been mutilated into a poncho-like garment and wear it conspicuously on an international stage. Is he so self centered that his personna should be of greater value than the nation's banner? Just after he removed his "poncho" I did notice women holding flags on staffs immediately behind him. That would have been a sufficient display of patriotism to me, albeit itself more than a bit distasteful.
No discussion such as this can go without fair mention of Bono's US flag display as jacket lining 2 years ago at superbowl XXXVI (2002). Four months after 9/11 it was to many Americans, particularly from our area, an extremely symbolic gesture that brought tears to many eyes. Just the thought that a European (Irish) rock star could touch so many of us gave us a feeling that the world knew what we had endured, and was with us.

Wardrobe malfunction? Are you kidding me? Yeah, that's what Justin Timberlake is saying this morning. Yeah, right. He reaches up, grabs at Janet Jackson's clothing, and the next think you know her left breast is hanging out there for the viewers of the Super Bowl halftime show. Then he tells us that it was "not intentional and is regrettable." Just how stupid does he think we are? Janet Jackson has that little Japanese throwing star, or whatever it was, glued to her nipple just for the hell of it? So what do we know today that we might not have known yesterday? Justin Timberlake is a liar.

Bit of a drift - I watched the game with 12 high-schoolers - when half-time began, 10 of them found other things to do until the second half of the game - there IS hope for the future!!

All of my guests were more interested in what they were eating and only I had the privilege to be looking at the tv screen at the exact moment it happened. No one else was watching right then. I wasn't even sure that it was what I saw since not one other person in the room could confirm it because they really weren't watching. Lucky me

The advertisers end up being the biggest fools...is it possible not one item or service will be purchased as a result of miscalculated Superbowl half-time exposure!

The flag silliness is just that. Who cares about flag etiquette when our the nation's REAL banners -- health care, vets benefits, education, home and social security systems -- are in tatters?

To me the NFL is becoming more like to XFL. The game isn't the thing anymore. :-(

I din't watch the game or the half time entertainment because of this. I just couldn't get into it. :-(

While I watched the half time show, it felt like a scene from "Cabaret" [without the decent music].
I was embarassed to be in the room with two 13 year olds, looking at what appeared to be a S&M show.
All that leather and groping of body parts. UGH.

I can't help but draw connections between this charming event, the thread concerning the acceptability of Hip Hop clothes and piercings on our kids in Soapbox, and concerns raised in Education on gym class "dance" lessons. As in, what the ---- do we expect?

Hey, the half-time stars weren't smoking, obviously doing dope, or promoting architecturally inconsistent windows...so what's the problem? Are we not diverse? All cultural expressions cool and all that?

It's a common practice to wear clothing resembling the flag, so it's hardly shocking, and no one would prosecute for that these days. I was around when it was unthinkable, but times have changed. I'm not saying it's good or bad, just that you can't expect law enforcement to act upon it. I was a bit upset when our esteemed president was SIGNING actual flags for souvenirs. That seemed pretty ignorant, but of course these rules are pretty arbitrary, and I don't expect anyone to care what I think.

Ah for the good old days when Grace Slick wore a shirt made from the US flag on the Mike Douglas show.

Wasn't that Abbie Hoffman and The Dick Cavett show?
It was electronically bleeped out (sort of like Janet's mammary gland on the replays of the "incident".)

I think Abbie Hoffman was on Merv Griffin when he wore the flag shirt. They blacked out the half of the screen he appeared on.

I didn't like the girl who sang the National Anthem. She didn't do a good job I didn't like the way she sang.
