It is my understanding that MTV, Timberlake and Jackson are having the wardrobe manufacturer investigated for the apparent wardrobe failure. The best information available at the time of the halftime show indicated that a vigrous tug on the wardrobe would not, in fact, result in the accidental exposure of JJ's right breast. We now know that this is not the case. I believe this investigation is fully warranted and will expose the wardrobe manufacturer as incompetent. Jackson and Timberlake will be found to be not responsible for this unfortunate incident. |

I heard on the radio that Rolling Stone is reporting that the "rip" had been rehearsed. I agree with Tjohn that this is a horrible, horrible thing. It exposes American leather bustier manufacturers to world wide ridicule because of the poor quality of their garments!! |

The independent commission needs to be truly independent. I fully expect commission members to be appointed from MTV, JJ's legal team, Timberlake's legal team AND the manufacturer of the allegedly defective goods. Only then will this commission enjoy the trust of the American people. |

I am surprised that Nelly grabbing his penis over and over again has not been seen as offensive as Janet baring her breast at a time when children might be watching. Am I missing something here? No coverage what so ever. Nada. |

Well, Barbara..did you actually see Nelly's penis? Maybe that was a sock in there? Oh Lordy, let's drop this whole thing. What a waste of time! Does anyone really really care about this (I type as I sit with the newspaper open to photos of the "incident".) NCJ aka LibraryLady On a coffee break..or something like it. |

barbarawilhelm- "Halftime show Fallout Includes FCC Inquiry" touches on the Nelly etc tastelessness on Sports front page (follow up D5) in the TImes today. George Vecsey's article was good too. Hard to believe they went with MTV to begin with. Let's make predictions for next year's Superbowl halftime. I predict Stevie Wonder. |

Nelly was just checking to see if the Levitra had kicked in yet.... And did you notice that when Kid Rock stripped off the flag poncho, there was someone waiting to catch it? guess he didn't want to desecrate the flag by tossing it on the floor. |

Stevie Wonder performed at one of the SuperBowls way back...Up With People performed at four Super Bowls, remarkably...maybe its time for their reunion tour. Next year, the Super Bowl is in Jacksonville, FL...kind of north for Gloria Estefan and Jimmy Buffet. Lynard Skynard and the Allman Brothers actually started in Jacksonville...Pat Boone, Ray Charles, Gram Parsons and Limp Bizkit were Jacksonville natives. Scratch Parsons and Limp Bizkit for different reasons...so to compensate for this year's debacle, you will have Pat Boone, Ray Charles, Amy Grant and the Mormon Tubercular Choir. Of course it all depends on who gets the contract to produce the halftime show. |

We are at war. Islamic terrorists are angry because of the extremes we go through to sell sex. Al-Qaeda will simply use the photo of Janet Jackson to recruit more warriors. When will American artists, and I use that term loosely to describe the performers on stage during half-time, realize they too have a role in what is happening. FCC Chairman Michael Powell is outraged. There he was, sitting there with his children, when he caught a brief glimpse of Janet's asset. Come on, folks. How many murders do they watch on television during any given week? I would guess that you can see over 100 murders on broadcast and cable television during the course of one week, and God knows how many rapes and assaults. Now, when we see a human breast Powell swings into action. "Hey, my kids might watch 50 murders a week on television, but you show them a breast and I'm going to come after you." It should be market pressures and public reaction that CBS and MTV are worried about, not the FCC. When you look at the big television picture you can't help but realize that that there's something more than a bit strange at work here. I'm not defending that absurd wasteland of talent that MTV paraded before us this past Sunday. Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson cooked this whole thing up for one thing ... publicity. Reviews are less than brilliant for Jackson's latest album, but here we were on Groundhog Day with almost everyone in the country talking about her. Oh, you say that Janet is now apologizing? And you think that's sincere? This is publicity you couldn't possibly buy and it's publicity that will make Jackson a true bra-load of money. Let the market react to CBS. Government has no place here. And finally, if I were on trial for sexually molesting children I would hope my sister wouldn't be gaining publicity by exposing her breast on perhaps the most widely watched broadcast in the free world.

Jurgnz is on to something. I am now calling for an expansion of the Patriot Act to include those public activities that Ashcroft or the FCC deems to be inappropriate. I fully expect that by clamping down on the parade of sex that passes for entertainment that Al Qaeda will discontinue terrorist operations. |

The terrorists will add this tape to the many others in their library to show why we must be destroyed. Our response will be to get even wilder. Who knows, someday maybe we can watch executions live. I'll bet they'd like that. |

The half time show just sucked. Some chick who is stuck in some 80's time warp, with a pixie football shoved under her skin , two con-men & a high school garage band. Great job MTV. |

I thought that show was OK. On the other hand , for some reason I missed the breast thing, even thought I watched the halftime show. Also, Beyonce Knowles was great singing the national anthem. |

I didn't watch the game. I didn't watch the half-time show. If I want entertainment, I seek out an exhibition of TALENT, not tackiness. The amount of hubbub created by a bared breast on live television is just one more sign that America really has to lighten up. |

Actually, notehead, this is clearly a phenomenon to be reckoned with. Everyone has an opinion on it, including you and me, and neither of us watched it. That says a lot. For one thing, I think it means that what happens on the superbowl show matters, because so many in our country watch it. Of course, it leads me to the old question, does life imitate art or does art imitate life? And to me, it's not clearly one or the other. But the superbowl halftime show and the resulting nationwide discussion are a reflection of all of us. Yeah, it was just a breast, and hey, if you've seen one, you've seen them both. But it really affected us, whether we think it ought to be a big deal or a little one. I think it's odd that sex used to be rated X and violence never was. Seems backwards, since sex happens to everyone and gratuitous violence doesn't represent everyone's lives. But again, this halftime show is somehow relevant to everyone, and I can't fully explain why. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing
