Cynical - exactly - the preciousness of calling a sunporch/room "the Maplewood room" annoys me. As far as darting out into traffic and jogging on busy roads - that's just messed up. What's wrong with you people? For those of you still mulling over the mystery of why our founding fathers mysteriously called it Ridgewood Road instead of Ridgewood sidewalk, I think it was a clue to prevent nitwits from confusing busy streets with tracks or backyards. |

Actually our forefathers called Ridgewood Road Grub Street. I think Burgdorff changed the name. We now take you back to our regularly scheduled rant...... |

Ukelalalio and Ligeti, thanks I never understood the reasoning for running in the road. Interesting. Isn't a HS track better still? But it's still a bad idea to run on such a busy road; you are putting drivers and their children at risk. AND I obey the speed limit, but STILL have to swerve to miss you. Thanks for listening. |

gemini, WHAT? You swerve into oncoming traffic? You mean, like, with someone coming your way right in front of you? How about braking behind the errant jogger and then waiting until it's safe to go around him/her? Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing

Considering the speed at which traffic moves on Ridgewood Road and the volume of this traffic in both directions, braking suddenly for an errant jogger could easily cause a rear end collision. Far better for the Ridgewood Road joggers to find a safer place to run. What's wrong with using the jogging track either in Underhill Field or Memorial Park? |

If someone hits me from behind, it's his fault. If I veer out into the oncoming lane and collide with a vehicle, it's my fault. I have a right to stop very suddenly for no apparent reason. I'm not defending the joggers. I'm just saying there's a right way and a wrong way to deal with obstacles in your lane. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing

OK, you want to know what my number one Pet Peeve is, I'll tell you... I’m disgusted with the amount of resident apathy in our town! This goes for everything from voting for members to the Board of Education to the Township Committee... and mostly every other major issue in between! Tonight the Township Committee is prepared to spend a big chunk of the towns taxes. If anyone cares about how they do it, be at the main libray at 7:30 tonight and find out... |

If you and/or the driver(s) of one or more cars behind you get injured because you found it necessary to stop suddenly to give the right of way to a jogger, it is still your fault if the driver9s) behind you don't have time to react safely to your action. Veering into the oncoming lane if no traffic is coming may be safer. Safest of all is encouraging joggers to find a more protected place to run. |

Joan, the driver behind me is responsible for maintaining a safe distance between him and me. He is responsible for being ready for me to stop suddenly. If I didn't cut him off by jumping into his lane in front of him, and if I wasn't backing up, a rear-end collision is utterly his fault. Ask any police officer. Rear end accidents are purely the fault of the driver in the rear. A child or cat might jump in front of me, or there may be a pothole in front of me. The driver behind me might not see these. It is up to me to stop in front of the hazard if I deem it appropriate.

Damn straight, Brett. Sometimes, I've been tempted to do that when a police officer tailgates me, which hasn't happened in SO/M. Then I'd tell them about a squirrel that got away, thanks to my sudden braking. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing

Long story shortened. My friend was told to move his car by the police. My friend stated “I’m Drunk and therefore can’t drive”. Officer said “move your car NOW”. My friend proceeded to back up into the police car, he really thought this was going to be his finest hour. Lost his license for three years and $3500 in fines.

Tom, Brett, Joan... would you please back up a few posts on this thread and throw a guy a bone? OK, here's your chance to slam on your breaks, only if you don't, it will be your fault if we get hit with higher taxes! Listen up, this is your chance guys... Don't you want to comment on the police department meeting tonight? |

Art, I thought perhaps no response would be better than an honest one, but since you're prodding me, here it is. I'd love to help. I get excited when I think about how I could get involved, provide input, and learn about the process and everything. I'd like to come. I have a wife who is suffering from fatigue from her chemotherapy, who feels overextended and resentful. She has a cold, which would normally be a mere annoyance, but it's pretty debilitating now, and it means she may have to delay Friday's chemotherapy treatment, which would be a shame. My older daughter had shoulder surgery on Friday and needs us to wait on her, since she can hardly do anything. My mother is visiting us today to help out, and I feel it would be rude to skip out on everyone. Your only hope is for you to call my wife and daughter and mother, and tell them how essential I am to the process. OK, I'm kinda kidding about that, but I feel it would be irresponsible to leave my home tonight. I realize that a great many people may have similar demands on them in their home lives. And this is what appears to be apathy. Frankly, I'm not sure how one performs civic duties the way you and the TC members do, along with people on the BOE and all the various committees we have. I admire you and even envy you. I must be bad at balancing my life as it is. And I think we have hijacked the thread plenty by now. We could talk about this on the police station thread or maybe it would be better to start a thread called "how to balance work, home, and civic duties". The meeting is about where to build the new police department. I'm on a mission to make everyone on this Board aware of it... Thanks for your reply. Now I know at least someone got the message! Read back further in the threads, or check out the rest of the Board for more details. |
