SHU does hold students responsible for their conduct when they get involved with SOPD. Typically it is a letter of conduct or housing violation. However, SOPD with all 3 or 4 cops working overnight is not equipped to go in to a frat house or active party and actually make multiple arrests. So we have a continual situation where the police break up the party and everyone goes about their business elsewhere. RE: THE EVICTION :Rumor is 1 house was evicted by the landlord, not for violations of the eviction ordinance though. If I recall it was on the West side of the railroad tracks, slowly encroaching on Newstead...WATCH OUT NEWSTEAD. |

M. Scott. The village has had several meetings with SHU and with many residents. I think you should come to one of the public safety meetings and then you can hear exactly what the situation is, how the laws work and exactly what the village has done. Or if you prefer, you can put in a request for the minutes of all the meeting and discussions. This can be done thru the village clerk. But please, don't post rumors or make sarcastic suggestions to the BOT when it is clear you do not know what the BOT has already done ow why the ordinances at the shore town in question do not apply in this situation.

mrosner: Are you talking about the so-called "animal house" ordinances that have been adopted in shore towns? I have a house near Monmouth Univerity and the municpality and others nearby that have a student rental problem have adopted animal house ordinances. I'm not sure why they wouldn't be applicable in South Orange if they're applicable in other college towns.

doublea: As I told M Scott, I suggest you come to a public safety meeting or legal committee meeting to discuss that ordinance. Basically it was put in place in shore towns, not college towns and the application of the law is different.

We tried them for dinner once, a month or so ago...It was ok (I had rare tuna over salad greens, and I liked it; my wife had a steak, which wasn't so good). Service a little clumsy, but waitress seemed inexperienced. Crowd was sparse, not that many "young people," although that wouldn't bother me (own kids are 21 and 25)... It closed shortly thereafter, and I was saddened, on general principle as much as for any other reason. Glad to hear it's open again. |

We went for dinner last night, and it was good. The service was fast and friendly, soup was good, I had the chicken, my wife the ribs... Large servings, had to take home the left overs. The crowd was fairly light, and also not many "young people," although it's beginning to look like there are more, and more young people in the world everywhere we go anyway... We're also glad it's open again. |

Katie - (little Katie Clayton with brothers George, Patrick, Mark, Gregory, etc?) You'll have to enlighten us - 1: are the bartenders dressed like Hooters girls? and, more importantly, 2: Brawling? Gang Task Force? Very scary words so you need to back them up with fact and reliable sources (ie: you were there, you know a cop who was there, etc., "from what I hear" doesn't cut it, and tends to fuel the rumor mill. |

The Bartenders are dressed fine, these are young collage girls that can’t afford the luxury of extra fabric!! There were two incidents on Thursday night. One inside the bar that was handled quickly and without the police. There was another incident in the parking lot outside after the bar had closed. I’m not %100 sure if the people involved in the fight came from the SO Grille but it’s a pretty good bet because the crowd all left at the same time. I do know that one person was hurt very badly and required emergency surgery (He didn’t look so good after the fight broke up). This had absolutely NOTHING to do with a gang, but there were a hell of a lot of cops. The Grille has been very tame lately and I believe that his may have just been an isolated incident. THE BARTENDERS ARE DRESSED FINE!!!!
