I have strep throat ... he's been on his own for the last few days. He read that one to me as I napped on the couch, I guess he took my chuckling as "ok to post".

As someone who's actually been to SA lately, I'd like to say that it's starting to really look good over by the intersection with Prospect.

Visited NetNomads several times over the past few weeks, but yesterday was the first time in a couple of months I'd been there during the day. A number of buildings in that vicinity have new signs, buildings have been painted, and they look great.

When Burnett BBQ opens, and the Farmer's Market gets going, it will only get better.

I see they are putting benches in too. They were putting them in this morning on my way back from bringing the kids to school.

I really don't know what you people are looking at. It looks like a piss hole, with a few band aids..It's still a disgrace to the town.

the bigger disgrace is people who bad mouth the efforts of those who are trying to make the avenue better.

Entrepreneurs are putting themselves on the line financially to open up businesses there and they have to contend with bad publicity from people who don't know what they're talking about.

THAT'S a disgrace.

normally I don't even respond to that kind of trolling, but I know that there are people who read this stuff and then stay away from businesses on SA.

If the avenue is going to succeed, people who really go there and do business are going to have to share their positive experiences in order to counteract the knuckleheads who want SA to fail.

Every dime spent by this town on that ave has been wasted.

The element sucks, the crime is high, and the security and policing are overwelmed.

Now, that said, why don't you share with me all the businesses that have been standing on line for a piece of SA???

Are there any? No, you know why because it is not a viable commercial establishment for anything but used car dealers.

Like I said people, check out Wood Ave in Linden. We created the same disaster.

A coffee shop and a few bricks on a side walk and you think you built something? For what I pay in taxes here, you better do better then that.

SA, brought to you by THE MAPLEWOOD DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

Hey, is the adult book store still in business???

No unfortunately. I stopped by to pick up a couple of tapes last week and they were permanently closed. Damn it. :-)

Some of the recent additions and soon to bes:

Netnomads
Beaded Path
Burnett BBQ
Papa Johns
Curves
Bush/Cheney 2004 Essex County HQ

I am sure others can add more.

Actually I don't. I rarely if ever drive on SA. Not since my car got stolen there.

I just happen to get interested because some of you turkeys have been glowing about it, so I figured I'd see for myself..

AND YOU KNOW WHAT....YUCK..

A few years ago, my old man has a chance to buy a few lots on SA for a song and dance. He said, screw it. He was convinced the area was never going to grow. He was right.

As a matter of fact, he tells his commercial clients, to avoid it. And considering he made all his dough in Hoboken in the 80's, I think he knows a thing or two about real estate.

Thanks Bobk,

I was kind of hoping to see The Gap, maybe a Borders, possibly an Old Navy, based on what this town spent there.

I was hoping we'd see a Westfield type downtown.

I guess, instead I'll have to live with Curves.

Straw, a lot of people aren't in favor of chains.

Even if you are, the problem is the demographics don't fit. Take a map, take a compass, set it on the map scale, measure ten miles, then draw a circle around the intersection of say SA and Yale. See what I mean.
