I stopped buy the South Orange Grille last night and to my surprise it’s not closed at all. The kitchen wasn’t open but the Bar was alive and kicking. The bartender did seem a little perturbed about the comments that she read on MOL about her attire (not by me) but I’ll let her fill you in when Dave gives her an activation key.

Might need to take on a few aliases here know that people know who I am.

Thanks Brett for the intro. Yes I was a little confused about the clothing comment. The attire is black pants and a black t-shirt or tank top. When you are pouring drinksand running around all night in a packed bar it can get a little warm. Everything the girls wear, myself included, is in good taste.

There are a lot of rumors flying around about the Grille its actually quite amusing.

And no we arent closed!

Glad to hear you're still in business! The times I've stopped in everything was great.

Sad to hear your still in business, but I guess SHU students need somewhere to buy alcohol underage.

Rumor is Grille was sold to a restaurant in Maplewood. Any truth to that????

There was one underage incident at the Grille and since then not only do we card at the door but the bartenders card as well. We are doing everything we can to keep out the underage kids.

As far as the Grille being sold, there is an offer on the table but no decisions have been made.

I have to admit things do seem to have blown over somewhat considering the police no longer surround the property at bar closing as they were doing in the early fall.

But honestly, since this place opened they have drawn more negative attention then any other bar in town...and thats considering that everyone was hopping it would be a success after being vacant for almost two or three years.

bar should be closed and the kitchen should be open! it's really sad that a place with wonderful food had to close and the crappy bar had to stay open.....where did the the kitchen staff go??? i'd love to know so that i can go support them in their new place.....

I am sorry you did not enjoy the bar. Is there any specific reason? Something maybe I can express to the staff so we can make changes? We try to do everything we can for the customers to enjoy themselves and if some reason they are not, Id like to know why.

Katie: What are you talking about? The food when we ate there was horridly mediocre. It is a shame that a place of this size and location, with a liquor license yet, does not have the sense or ability to appeal to anyone beyond Seton Hall students.

i would have to agree that the grille is nothing but trouble since the day it had opened. yes i know that they claim to card however the only day i ever say any real carding was the first few days it was open. there was a pretty big sized black guy (i guess a bouncer)standing right at the front door and he carded everyone. however that quickly went away and SHU students soon moved in. it

i thought the food was ok, it is not the grille itself that is my problem i just wish there would be more vigilance by all involved to not serve underaged and not STOP serving people once they are intoxicated.

Katie - agreed. A "Grille" that only serves alcohol is just asking for trouble. A better use of their investment would have been to offer some type of music - maybe blues? - and serve an upscale menu.

Horrid enough that we will not go back, except for a beer which was delightfully cold.

I noticed that it took the idiot bartender who looked young enough to be my daughter...(and IM ONLY 29) 10 minutes to pure 3 bud drafts...actually 10 minutes. sorry but I had to go to another bar...it would have taken all night to even catch a buzz.

I would just like to point out that none of the girls on our staff are idiots. We are actually all in either graduate school or law school.

If you look at M. Scott's user name, you'll realize that his calling the bartender an "idiot" only means he's welcoming her to his family!
