"LONESOME DAY" VIDEO SET TO AIR "Lonesome Day" has been officially been added to playlists at MTV, MTV2 and VH-1, and the video will begin airing during the week of October 21. Like such Springsteen videos as "Brilliant Disguise" and "Streets of Philadelphia," the "Lonesome Day" video uses a new, live vocal track. During each take, Springsteen performed the vocals live on camera, which The Rising producer Brendan O'Brien edited and mastered for the final cut of the video. The video was shot in and around Asbury Park, and directed by Mark Pellington (director of Pearl Jamıs "Jeremy" and U2's "One"). Pellington says, "The most striking thing about making this video was the fact that Bruce sang every take live, nailing the vocal take after take, each time. The final take came 16 hours after the first one, and he never missed a note." Also, check out this link for a cool article in the Wall Street Journal. E Street Meets Wall Street! Thanks Chris! I had the privilege of seeing Bruce and band rehearse "Lonesome Day" at the SNL studio a couple of weeks ago and this is definitely a song he can nail live! |

On a barely related front, U2 actually made two different videos for "One". One version had Bono sitting at a table in a club or bar; the other had the band in various outfits around Berlin. |

Not all drag; they alternated in various parts of the video. The CD jacket and book had a similar theme, but I think it got dumped for the more traditional Bono crooner. |

Bruce is the featured artist today on FUV..must be membership drive season. Who knows...they may even play "Mary Queen of Arkansas" but most definitely can expect "Incident on 57th Street" and "New York City Serenade" (which really are best listened to after dark)and other songs you dont hear on dinosaur rock stations, as well as the lunchtime daily features of covers, today of course Springsteen penned songs. |

LITTLE STEVEN SAYS TOUR TO "STEP UP" IN SPRING 2003. According to Gary Graff's report for Launch, Bruce and the E Street Band are "looking at a spring start for the next leg of its tour, which will be more extensive." Steven Van Zandt tells Graff: "Well, we're gonna continue. We're gonna step things up. Really, this first four months is really just a quick hit warm-up. The real tour is gonna start in March, April, I think. You know, we're gonna probably start camping out in cities. Right now, we're doing nothing but one-nighters, literally--I mean, we have not done two shows anywhere, and we won't through December--just sort of to introduce the record to as many different cities as we can." Steven's comments put a finer point on the tour's July 10 press release, which originally stated that the tour would continue into next year: "This year's rock concerts will be followed by the continuation of the tour in 2003. Springsteen's plans currently include Australia, a return to Europe, and then a return to the United States, where he and the band will do multiple shows in major cities throughout the summer of 2003." No further details are known at the moment, but we'll post any additional information on 2003 dates as it becomes available. |

BREAKING NEWS: THREE SHOWS POSTPONED Three Springsteen concerts--Austin, Columbus, and Indianapolis--have been postponed, following Clarence Clemons' recent surgery for a detatched retina. (Read the report in the Austin American-Statesman.) A publicist for Clemons told Backstreets that the November 5 surgery "appears to have gone well," that he's being released from a Houston hospital today, and he will be receiving outpatient care. The Austin, TX show, originally scheduled for November 6, has been moved to March 2, 2003-- that's Texas Independence Day. November 6 tickets will be honored for the rescheduled show, or may be returned for a refund (See the Erwin Center press release for specifics if you're unable to make the 2003 date). The Columbus, OH show, originally scheduled for November 9, has been moved to December 16, 2002. Tickets for the November 9 date will be honored for the rescheduled show. Refunds will be available at point of purchase, beginning November 12. (See the venue website for further details.) The Indianapolis, IN show, originally scheduled for November 10, has been moved to December 17, 2002. (Further details pending.) We'll report any further developments right here. Once again, we wish the Big Man a full and speedy recovery.

Here's hoping that the Big Man, the King of the World, the Master of the Universe, Clarence Clemons has a speedy recovery. Wonder if anybody will choose the "Return Tickets for Refund" option? |

Boy, our rock stars are getting old....remember when tours were postponed because of various "youthful indescretions"? Quick quiz...the winner gets subscription to AARP 1- What rock musician recently had a detached retina? (I know...just want you to feel confident) 2- What rock musician got a new liver sometime back? 3- What seminal, pioneer of rock music recently had knee replacement surgery? Good luck... |

In the "I-think-it's-getting-out-of-hand" department: I received an "Amazon Alert" for an album called: "String Quartet Tribute to Bruce Springsteen". No other details are available at this time, and in particular, I don't know if "Mary Queen of Arkansas" made it onto the album. |
