score one for you nohero. boom-boom freddy cannon, barbarians, remains, lyres, real kids, (and yes ,j.geils- indeed a marginal jumped up bar band, even with magic dick on board). the glen jones radio show(wfmu.org) 91.1 fm from 12p-3p on sundays plays a lot of jersey-centric stuff that you may like. i prefer bill kelly on right after from 3p-5p. |

From www.backstreets.com Springsteen -- or as Dustin Hoffman called him, Springstreet -- did win three of the five Grammys for which he was nominated: Best Male Rock Performance - "The Rising" Best Rock Song - "The Rising" Best Rock Album - The Rising But you wouldn't have known it from watching the ceremony on CBS: all three categories were presented off-camera, and though Springsteen played twice during the broadcast (performing "The Rising" with the E Street Band, and honoring the dear departed Joe Strummer with "London Calling"), he was never given the opportunity to speak or accept an award on-screen. Regardless, the highlight of the night by far was "London Calling," in which Springsteen, Dave Grohl, Elvis Costello, and Steven Van Zandt traded off vocals in a fiery tribute to Strummer and the Clash. Hey, we like the Norah Jones album, we even put it on the Backstreets Jukebox back in issue #74. Really, it's... nice. But Album of the Year? Really? Well, almost two decades ago, Lionel Richie took home the Album of the Year Grammy over Born in the U.S.A. Yep, the more things change the more they stay the same.

Redsox - Just kidding after all. Personally, I don't think "bar band" is a negative term, when talking about real rock 'n roll. J. Geils, the Jukes, the Houserockers - all over the country, there are "local favorites". (Detour - you mentioned the Remains, from Boston - the Remains' bassist, Vern Miller, teaches music at MMS, and leads the middle school concert and jazz bands. Another reason to love this place!) Some bands break out and make the big time, some just keep entertaining the folks around home. That doesn't make the local folks any less great than those who go national. To paraphrase Keith Richards, when asked if the Stones were the world's greatest rock band, "On any given night, in some bar somewhere, a band is playing that's the world's greatest rock 'n roll band." Personally, I think that one of the qualifications for induction into the Rock Hall of Fame should be "Are you now, or have you ever been, a bar band?" As for the Grammys, I'm satisfied that our boys are still, after all this time, the top rockers around. By the way, there's a nice article about Norah Jones in the NYT today, talking about how she got her start performing in small , "scruffy" bars in NYC. Close enough for bar band status ... |

Ticketmaster could not suck more if they tried. What a waste of two hours. I had tickets in section 125 and then the system kicked me out. I got back in and (After an hour of waiting!) had a shot at 300 Section tickets. No thanks. |

7 shows -- bad news for scalpers. The market is going to be flooded with tix. The only ones the resellers will get a premium for will be the GA tix. one word for anyone who didn't get through today -- ebay! |

Chris, Sorry, I can't tell you how much (I'm too embarrassed to broadcast it to the world), but it was ebay. there's currently an auction for one GA ticket at ebay (price is $205 at the moment). If you get it, we'll be leaving around 3 on Fri.

Ml1 - Don't be embarrassed, we understand. Have a great time! I got tickets for some of the shows, but I'll admit that I'm not thrilled with the idea of stadium shows. I may just go the night I have my best seats, and then the last night (I was at the last nights at the Meadowlands and MSG during the reunion tour, and the first and only show at the Meadowlands last summer, so I have to keep my streak alive). |

I was listening to "Tom Joad" today. That's a damn fine record. Lots of interesting tunes ... Thoughts or comments? I like "Dry Lightening" a lot and "Across The Border" is real good. |
