I am getting a bike next week and was wondering if there were any neighbors that are interested in riding as well. |

The occasional motorbike zooming up the hill in my neighborhood terrifies my older daughter, our dog and emits enough noise to wake the dead. |

Explain to your daughter that it`s only noise and won`t hurt her, give the dog a valium, and remember, only head shots will kill a zombie. |

Um, she is old enough to know that...but it doesn't stop her being spooked by the noise. I guess I'd prefer not to have motorbikes whizzing by but I can't stop it. Fortunately, we seem to have very, very few in our residential neighborhood. |

Well I guess this post didn't attract the kind of responses I was looking for. Guess I will have to seek riding partners elsewhere. Bookgal, sorry if I scare your daughter. My dog howls as well. Zombies, I haven't really had a problem with thus far. Curb, always aim for the head. Unless they are the Evil Dead variety where the hands will haunt you as well. |

All motorcycles dont make noise ... My friend can come down my driveway while I am outside and I only know he's coming when I see the headlights .. Prodx: now that the weather is improving, my friend said he is ready to ride ... what do you have in mind ? |

Hi Prodx, I have a new 2002 Honda Nighthawk and I would like to hook-up with some other locals for a ride. I went on a 90 mile ride today started out riding from S.O. to Summit on to Rt 512 west to Voorhees State Park to Rt 513 south to Rt 31 south to Rt 78 east. Windy on 78 but the rest of the ride was great. Let me know when you want to ride. email me at swato@ny.com |

As Founder & President of the sole Dieties-Only biker organization in the cosmos, I welcome all SOMA cyclists to apply for a local "Mortals" charter to our Club. Personally, I ride a Norton Black Shadow, but Full-Dress Harleys predominate the membership these days. Must go now. The Black Hills beckon. See you in Sturgis! --The Oracle of MOL BTW: Here's our patch:

Seriously, what's wrong with using a muffler? Is part of the "cool" being so loud that you'll kill an old lady with a heart condition? I enjoy riding motorcycles as much as the next guy (or the nth guy, for reasonably small values of n), but I question the social value of this particular subset of people who delight in annoying more people than they excite. Why should I have to take part in somebody's noise fetish? Why are these defective devices not illegal? I doubt that I'd be allowed to walk into the grocery store and scream in the manager's ear, so why is it OK if that process of screaming is automated and broadcast widely? If you think it's a bunk comparison, just measure the dB at the eardrum in both cases. It certainly is comparable. But luckily not all bikers are as inconsiderate and even flippant as at least one here seems to be. |

Lambda, I am trying tio figure out who you are trying to insinuate as inconsiderate. So far I think most of the comments on this post have been constructive. The only inappropraite post here was the complaint by bookgal, because it simply didn't address the question I originally posted. Noone on this post is talking about making tons of noise. If we had a chapter of the Hell's Angels in town all running Vance and Hines pipes with the baffles removed, I could understand the complaint, but that is simply not the case. I am sure that the rare occasion of loud motorcycles she experiences is extremely rare and did not warrant the complaint on this thread. |
