Hank,

BTW, the band "Boston" isn't really a band.
just some MIT geeks (aka-mitwits) manufacturing unlistenable soul-less garbage in their suburban home sound studio. the only thing worse in town were the berkley music school nerds.

So I was interviewing a recent college grad who happens to wotk in the Meadowlands part-time as an usher. I said it must be a cool job to see all the shows. And he says yea- I have to do 10 Springsteen shows this summer. Then he says he must be popular! Boy did I feel old!

Cheer up. Chronological age means nothing. The tour is comin' to town, and as it says in "No Surrender", we're "ready to grow young again."

I'd actually like to thank Redsox for putting this thread over the top among Virtual Cafe threads. His last post vaulted "Bruce News" past the lame "Word of the Day" thread that had been the previous champ.

From greasylake.org, the preeminent Bruce website:

2003-06-29:
European tour ends on high note
After 24 shows and almost two months Bruce and the band wrapped up the European tour last night in Milan. And they did it in style. For the first time since 1985 Rosie came out in Europe and brought the tour to a close with a bang. Altogether, the last couple of weeks have seen Bruce doing some of his most spectacular shows ever, not least his two shows in Gothenburg that both ended with "Twist and Shout" and already have legendary status among those who were there. Bruce and the band now return to the States where they will begin what will probably be the home-stretch of the tour, and if Europe is any indication, fans in America are in for something extraordinary.

HEY IRONMAN,

heard you're a closet barry manilow fan.

but really man,
i was heavily into the boston punk scene in the 70's and i'm telling you what i said was the truth.
if you don't believe me- check out reviews of "boston" playing live, and remember the horrid berkley art band "til tuesday".
i tell ya i's got credibility, i do.

Actually, I went to a Cher show earlier this month. This is all I am going to say on that subject.

Redsox' memory of Boston (the band) is on the mark. Tom Sholz managed to put out a record of some quality using pretty much his tape deck, but when it came to live shows, the band had some tough times.

Of course, Todd Rundgren could be criticized for similar failings, as could the more recent Primitive Radio Gods. Bring back Graham Parker.

Wow! Exactly two weeks from tonight, Bruce and the ESB will be rockin' Giants Stadium! I am so looking forward to these shows!

FYI, I followed up with the Community Foodbank in Hillside, and they are accepting ticket donations. Contact them right away for details.

Hey, speaking of The Food Bank. I have volunteered in the past to help out with the Thanksgiving "Check-Out Hunger" campaign. I would stock and replenish those little coupons at the Pathmark in South Orange. The Food Bank has contacted me about doing it again this year. I would love to, but it was a little more time consuming that I thought it would be and I was wondering if two or three citizens of Jungleland would be interested in teaming up with me for this? Private line me if you're interested ...

"FOREVER": STEVE HAS HIGH HOPES FOR AN ACTIVE E STREET BAND

Gearing up for the upcoming U.S. leg (which starts in less than two weeks), Little Steven Van Zandt has talked to Billboard.com about the changes in the tour since last time it was on these shores. "It's a very different show than the one we started with," he says, calling Springsteen a "master of spontaneity."

Most interesting for fans may be what Van Zandt has to say about the E Street Band's future prospects: "[The] E Street Band guitarist... says the group is 'absolutely an ongoing concern' that plans to continue working once its summer tour concludes. 'From here on in, it will be new stuff, and we're in the active band cycle of album-tour-album-tour—I hope forever.'"

Steven also talks about the European leg and his own plans for his Underground Garage. Read the full Billboard.com article, "Van Zandt Promises E Street Band Surprises."

Let's hope we see more of the Bruce and the E Street Band after this tour ends!

On another note, I think it's great that Bruce and the band are playing in Fenway Park--maybe there'll be a few less Red Sox fans at Yankee Stadium that weekend.

News Item:

BOSTON TELLS SPRINGSTEEN: "DON'T PLAY TOO LONG"

quote:

City consumer affairs chief Patricia Malone yesterday said Bruce Springsteen can rock the ball field Sept. 6 and 7 as long as the concerts end by 11 p.m. City officials will monitor for excessive noise. Malone backed off her threat to limit ticket sales to something less than Fenway's capacity of 36,298. That's good news for fans - and for the Red Sox, which put tickets on sale last Friday and in a matter of hours sold enough to fill the stadium both nights.

Bruce should have booked Fenway in October. I understand the stadium will be available for the entire month, AGAIN.
