200th Bruce News post ...

Not a lot to cover, but I wanted the 200th post!

How's this ... Besides the usual tunes ("The Rising" core set), what do you want to hear the most at Giant (Exxon Sign) Stadium

"Sandy" would be awesome ... "Backstreets" would be great too ... "Incident on 57th Street" has been popping up ... How about "Janey, Don't You Lose Heart"? That'd be good. I'm looking to forward to hearing "Seven Nights To Rock" ...

ML1 and I are carpooling ... The rest of you bums want to meet in the lot?

Are you wit' me?

My first show is later in the week, but I expect a full review of opening night ASAP on MOL. As for songs, I have to admit that I really enjoy it anytime he plays anything from "Greetings".

MEADOWLANDS BOARDWALK

To celebrate the 10-night concert stand, a Meadowlands Boardwalk is being constructed next to Giants Stadium. The Boardwalk will give ticket holders that arrive early "a taste of the shore" and let them have a little fun before the concert. The Boardwalk will be open from 3 PM to 7:15 PM. There is no admission charge for the Meadowlands Boardwalk. The Boardwalk will offer fans live music, a Ferris wheel, carnival games, food, beach volleyball and lots of fun!

WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT?

1. The Meadowlands Boardwalk will be set up on the east side of Giants Stadium in parking lot 10/12 between gates B and C (near the walkover bridge).
2. The total experience will cover an area measuring approximately 175,000 sq. ft.
3. For the 10 Springsteen concert dates, the Meadowlands Boardwalk will open at 3:00 PM and close at 7:15 PM (15 minutes before the start of the concert each night).
4. There is no admission charge for the Meadowlands Boardwalk.

WILL I FEEL LIKE I AM AT THE SHORE?

We can't recreate the Atlantic Ocean but we will try to bring everything else up the Turnpike to exit 16W including a boardwalk.
1. You can't go under the boardwalk but you can walk on it… A 270' x 20' wooden boardwalk will be constructed to hold carnival games and food stands. Boardwalk will be wheelchair accessible.
2. Take a ride with your sweetie on the 48' Ferris wheel. The ride is free, but we ask that you make a donation to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey who will be set up in the Boardwalk area.
3. Photo Op! A Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band banner measuring 50' x 180' will be hung on the east outer wall of Giants Stadium underneath the "Giants Stadium" sign (facing the Meadowlands Boardwalk). The banner will be installed on July 10 (weather permitting) and will be up for the 10-show run.
4. Dig your toes in the sand on the beach volleyball court. Get your friends together for a game or challenge another team. We provide the volleyball.
5. Win a prize! The Boardwalk will have games of chance including Spyro water race, fat cat ball toss, hoop shoot basketball, and crazy can bean bag toss. And no Boardwalk would be complete without a Dunk Tank and a High Striker. There is a charge for the games.
6. What diet? Take your pick of a full assortment of boardwalk favorites including hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and pepper sandwiches, saltwater taffy, fudge, cotton candy, funnel cakes, zeppoles, Italian ices, soft-serve ice cream, fresh-squeezed lemonade, frozen drinks and beer.
7. Sit down and enjoy your meal. Picnic tables with canopy tents will be located throughout the Boardwalk area so you can take a break from the sun and eat in comfort.
8. There may not be an ocean but we will do our best to cool you down with misting stations.
9. No charge for our beach badges - Each night, 1,000 Meadowlands Boardwalk beach badges will be distributed. We realize there is no beach but it makes a great collector's item.
10. Sand sculpture - No boardwalk is complete without a sand castle and we will have our very own.
11. Radio stations will be on hand - some doing live broadcasts.
12. The Jersey shore always has great Jersey bands and we plan on bringing in the music as well. Each night at the Boardwalk, local Jersey bands will entertain the crowds on a 40' x 60' stage with canopy cover that will be constructed in the parking lot (same stage as was used for State Fair Meadowlands). Take a seat in the grandstands and enjoy the music while you enjoy some sun.

Dickson and I are in the Stadium lot right now having a beer, listening to Little Steven and wishing you all could be with us (well at least some of you). We'll give you our ASAP review later.

Great show last night (did you expect me to say it wasn't?). The band played with a lot of energy, and Bruce seemed to be having a lot of fun. He seems to have changed the tone of the show for the stadium venue, joking and mugging for the cameras, especially in the last hour of the show. For a good portion of the night, the band had even the people in the cheap seats (where we were), on their feet.

The show was very long, right around 3 hrs., with virtually no breaks (just a minute or so before each encore). And for those interested, Rosie did come out last night in the last encore (first time I've heard it since about '81). That alone was enough to send 50,000 people home happy.

Seemed like Bruce made another concession to the stadium venue -- relatively few slow songs. Most of the night, this was a rock & roll show.

As always, he played Empty Sky and You're Missing about midway through the set. Not sure how everyone else felt, but I don't think those songs work as well outdoors as they did in the smaller venues. On the other hand, the rest of the material from The Rising holds up really well against the older stuff.

Anyone who doesn't have tickets should get them now. They were very available in the parking lot last night, but as people hear reviews of the shows, I'm betting they get more scarce.

Overall, a fun, energetic show -- kind of surprising given the hugeness of the venue and how far I was from the stage.

Greetings from Darlington County!

ML1 is 110% right! Great show. He's right about tickets being available for Night #1 too. I was fortunate enough to score an upgrade to the floor for $20! Section 7! It almost made up for ML1 eating the other half of The Number 6 after the show, but more about that later ... The Star Ledger may have put it best when they said that Bruce made a 55,000+ seat arena seem intimate. I can't wait until 7/27 and may sneak over there to see if I can pick-up some tickets in the lot ...

Anybody at last night's show?

This looks good ...

July 17 / East Rutherford, NJ / Giants Stadium

Notes: Bruce foregoes an acoustic number on night two, he and the band taking the stage to the sounds of Frank Sinatra's "Summer Wind" and launching straight into "The Rising." A triple-shot of "Night," "Candy's Room" and "Prove It All Night" lights up the early part of the show. "Growin' Up" is dedicated to Eddie Vedder, with "Jungleland" and "Hungry Heart" also in the set. Bruce repeats his PSA before "Land of Hope and Dreams" (see 7/15 report), and as for "Rosie" coming out? She's two for two.

Setlist:The Rising/Lonesome Day/Night/Candy's Room/Prove It All Night/Empty Sky/You're Missing/Waitin' on a Sunny Day/Growin' Up/Worlds Apart/Badlands/Out in the Street/Mary's Place/Jungleland/Into the Fire/No Surrender/Thunder Road

First Encore:Hungry Heart/Ramrod/Born to Run

Second Encore:My City of Ruins/Land of Hope and Dreams/Rosalita/Dancing in the Dark
