Yes, I was there last night in Sec 109. Probably the best show in the 20ish times I've seen him. Bruce and the band were much more intense than on opening night. It was like they had a mission to just kick ass. I wonder if Bruce wasn't pleased with show #1 and gave everyone a talkin' to. I thought Opening night was OK but #2 was head and shoulders above in my opinion. I'll be back for more on the 21st, 26th and 27th. Also August 30.

We went last night (Friday). I never thought about it before, but "rain" is another word that's in a lot of Springsteen songs. We had not-the-greatest seats for this show, they were pretty high up. On the plus side, there was an overhang, so we were dry while the rest of the crowd got soaked by the rain. Everybody was cheered up when the band started the show with CCR's "Who'll Stop the Rain", and the singing was probably a little more enthusiastic on "Waitin' on a Sunny Day". Of course, the "Let it Rain, Let it Rain, Let it Rain" chorus in "Mary's Place" was also appropriate. The first encore was something that other acts would be happy to call their entire show. "Cadillac Ranch", then Garland Jeffies comes out to sing (while the band vamps and carries on) for the old song "96 Tears". On to "Bobby Jean", "Glory Days", and the "Detroit Medley" (i.e., "Devil with the Blue Dress", "Good Golly Miss Molly"). This is the truth, at that point the stadium was shaking in time to the song, as every person in the stands must have been jumping up and down in unison. And from there, into "Born to Run". There was a second, and final encore. After the second song of the encore, the band gathers at the front of the stage, as if to give their final bow. People down in front must have been shouting for "Rosalita" (and I think someone had a sign). They did an exaggerated consultation about whether to play it or not, before picking up their instruments again and starting the song. I'm not a big fan of stadium shows, but things like that, which make the crowd feel part of one big inside joke, made this one fun. Well, that and a total of 26 songs, and a performance that lasted over three hours. We'll check it out again next weekend, and then the last show on 8/31. |

Wow! I was in the GA section for the 7/18 show, and I'm not sure that there are too many (or any!) other performers that I would say, I stood for four hours straight in sometimes rainy conditions -- and had a blast! I was in the third row of fans, almost directly in front of Bruce. The crowd around me was great, and it was awesome to see Bruce and the band so close up! It was like they were performing just for us few hundred people in GA--I was so focused on the stage, and I was so absorbed by the sounds and sights immediately around me, it was easy to forget there were just a few (oh, 55,000 or so) people behind me! I especially liked the haunting vocals by Bruce & Patti on "Empty Sky"--it had such intimacy, which is saying alot considering the large venue. I've read on some Springsteen web sites that having GAs is addictive--once you've experienced it, having seats anywhere else falls short--and I can understand why they would say that! A truly memorable experience! |

Interesting guest at last night's show -- Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez drummed on "Spirit In The Night." I remember going to see JP Gotrock, Vini's band in the '80s. He was actually quite good -- very solid, and better than I would have expected from the overly busy drumming on Bruce's first two albums. |

We have tickets for Aug. 30. What I'd love to see is the band do some songs that Bruce wrote but which are primarily associated with other artists - songs like "Because the Night" and "Fire." |

July 24 / East Rutherford, NJ / Giants Stadium Notes: Dry at last, night five opens with "The Promised Land." While the show is back down to 24 songs, there are some genuine rarities in the set: the once-in-a-blue-moon "Streets of Fire" shows up early, its second performance on this tour. "Meeting Across the River" with Garry on stand-up bass leads into "Jungleland," and "Sandy" kicks off the encores. "Working on the Highway" gets that washboard/hootenanny treatment, and "Rosie" keeps a-comin', now five for five. Setlist: The Promised Land/The Rising/Lonesome Day/Streets of Fire/My Love Will Not Let You Down/Prove It All Night/Empty Sky/Waitin' on a Sunny Day/Working on the Highway/Worlds Apart/Badlands/She's the One/Mary's Place/Meeting Across the River/Jungleland/Into the Fire/No Surrender First Encore: 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)/Ramrod/Born to Run Second Encore: My City of Ruins/Land of Hope and Dreams/Rosalita/Dancing in the Dark |

From http://www.backstreets.com/news.html July 26 / East Rutherford, NJ / Giants Stadium Notes: "Since the band's in prime shape, we're going to play a prime number of song's tonight!" The crowd was rooting for a tour-record 29, but, alas, got 23. Hey, at least it wasn't 19. OK, Bruce didn't actually say that. But we were scratching our heads trying to figure out why Saturday night got the shortest show of the stretch. Bruce made a big deal about it being Saturday night and mentioned the cast and crew of the Sopranoes "telly-vision" show were at the show. Perhaps the band was saving up for tomorrow night's July finale. In any case, who are we to complain - Rosie's six for six, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out was a highlight, and Adam showed up to kick things off. Setlist: Adam Raised a Cain/The Rising/Lonesome Day/The Ties That Bind/Atlantic City/Empty Sky/Waitin' on a Sunny Day/Darlington County/Worlds Apart/Badlands/Two Hearts/No Surrender/Mary's Place/My Hometown/Into the Fire/The Promised Land First Encore: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out/Glory Days/Born to Run Second Encore: My City of Ruins/Land of Hope and Dreams/Rosalita/Dancing in the Dark |

We were there last night - even though the show was short, it was a lot of fun. The crowd may have been a little flat - when the band came out for the first encore, Bruce laughed and said: "That was the most weak-ass encore applause I've ever heard!" He smiled and added: "You have one chance to redeem yourselves" - and the band started the opening to "Tenth Avenue", giving everyone a chance to sing the melody of the introduction as Bruce waved his arms to get the crowd louder and louder. "Glory Days" into "Born to Run", with every light in the stadium on, was pretty energetic after that. Chris, you sure you want to sell those tickets? The band may have been saving itself on Saturday, for a big finish tonight. |

Hope you folks who had tickets, used 'em; if you had a chance to get some tickets, I hope you did. It was a great show tonight, with a few rarities, but especially "Kitty's Back". And boy, am I up past my bedtime. And on a school night, too! |

From http://backstreets.com/setlists.html July 27 / East Rutherford, NJ / Giants Stadium Notes: "A good hot night; I've been waiting for one of these!" And indeed it was - a hot NJ night to close out the July stand. The heavens cooperated as well, holding off the rain until the last song was over. And that last song was "Seven Nights to Rock," the same tune that opened this seven night run. Same number of songs as last night - 23 - but thumbs up on the song selection. Candy and Kitty showed up (and Rosie of course went seven for seven). Throw in Saint in the City, Meeting Across the River into Backstreets. And we'll confess we didn't mind that Into the Fire took a rest. "See you in August!" Yep. Setlist: Downbound Train/The Rising/Lonesome Day/Candy's Room/Prove It All Night/Empty Sky/Waitin' on a Sunny Day/Saint in the City/Worlds Apart/Badlands/Out in the Street/Mary's Place/Meeting Across the River/Backstreets/No Surrender First Encore: Kitty's Back/Bobby Jean/Born to Run Second Encore: My City of Ruins/Land of Hope and Dreams/Rosalita/Dancing in the Dark/Seven Nights to Rock I thought it was a good show. Not a great show, but a good one. Bruce looked tired. Yes, Kitty was a treat, so was Backstreets ... Great day for tailgating. Looking forward to 8/31! |

Chris, Nohero & others, So...of the 7 nights at Giants Stadium, how would you rank them? I was at 2 of the 7 shows (opening night and 7/24). I'd have to say that 7/24 was far better than opening night (7/15)...the setlist was more varied, plus the fact that my seat was much better, helped as well. I've still got one more to go on 8/30. |

7/21 Had the best set list I thought Included, Trapped, Spirit in the Night, Where the Bands Are, Prove it all Night. Must've been an awesome show. I was at 7/18 and was real glad to hear Racing in the Streets. |

I will most likely get laughed out of here..... But I went to my first Bruce show, and I though to my self "what is the rising about"? Not the album - the song. Is it about a soul rising to heaven or a collective rising of feelings. Or Am I thinking too much. I really have missed out on Bruce all these years. I got these tickes from a friend - thinking I wanted to go for the experience (not being a fan). Now I must say that I am a fan - he is really good live. WOW |

Buzzsaw ... This thread is more powerful than one question ... We're all just tired from seven nights of rock! A dream of life comes to me Like a catfish dancin' on the end of the line

Mr. Dickson is, as always, correct. I got seven nights to rock I got seven nights to roll Seven nights, I'm gonna have a whirl Seven nights with a different girl Seven nights to rock I got seven nights to roll Monday, at sister Suzy's ball Tuesday, at the old dance hall Wednesday, at the road house inn Thursday, at the lion's den Friday, at the chatter box Saturday and Sunday, everybody rocks We were at Saturday and Sunday, and I think Sunday was better just for the crowd response, and the band's enthusiasm. Both nights had some special songs, though. It was just a lot of fun, and we're looking forward to 8/31 (Show 10, gotta' get the T-shirt for that one). As for what "The Rising" is about - as with so many Springsteen songs, it's both a story about a specific character, and a reflection about greater things. Let me gather my thoughts on this one, I'll get back to you. |

So The Boss (Bruce) wanted to play Yankee Stadium in mid-September to end the tour, but The Boss (George) is against it because it may be bad for the field and wont be able to be fixed before the playoffs. The alternative now appears to be Shea Stadium, where as Chris Dickson can fully attest, field condition for the playoffs is absolutely irrelevant. Will Springsteen perform this year at Shea to the level of other All-Stars such as Mo Vaughan, Robbie Alomar and Tom Glavine? If he forgets lines, drops his guitar and puts on a listless show, we'll know its the curse of the stadium itself. |

Worse yet - Shea Stadium exerts its powerful influence over personnel decisions, and Bruce trades Mighty Max to Bon Jovi for Tico Torres ... |

It's actually pretty cool if he's there. For once this year people can say, "They're not yelling 'BOOOO!' They're yelling 'BRUUUUUCE!'" and it'll be the truth. |
