Cheers for Bush, and cheers for Hill.

Sometimes, something is the right thing to do even if it helps your career.

Seconds?

Hope y'all had a nice Thanksgiving!

the reception that w got from the ranks was emotional & appeared very real.

i really didn't see anything like that with the national-at-large senator from ny.

in fact, hellary would have probably gotten the same reaction as the firemen & cops gave her @ msg- but i'm sure the troops were told to behave under threat of court martial......

I had a first hand view of why CNN is losing followers as recent polls indicate. Whenever there was a major event, I would tune into CNN assuming I was getting an unbiased account. This was slowing changing as I picked up some questionable reporting over the past year.

However, yesterday, I was shocked! When news reports first were aired around 1 p.m., the CNN reporter in Bagdad said he was sorry to sound "puckish", but perhaps the trip by Bush was probably quickly scheduled to upstage the senator from NY who was set to arrive there today! He then went on to say that LBJ visited Vietnam and we didn't win that war!

These comments were instant reflex, before the pictures from Bagdad were available.
Had such speculations been made later in the day, hey, that's politics! But to put a negative spin on an incredible feat of coordination is so mean spirited, CNN should be ashamed.

I'm beginning to think our presidents should hold office for 6 years, without an opportunity to run again. What happens now is that the officeholder has about 18 months to perform his duties before everything he says or does is interpreted by the media and the opposing party candidates as having a reelection motive. Also, we all would be spared the mindnumbing spectacle of watching presidential candidates run two years before election! Just think of the millions of dollars of campaign funding which would be saved.

Even I get tired of my own cynicism. Having read what there is to read (most of which is met with heavy skepticism) it is becoming clearer that this was in the works for a while.
BIG CHEERS TO DUBYA for what seems to have been a highly theatrical moment (which meets my approval for obvious reasons :-)

Apologies for jumping the gun. Both sides did right on this one.

sounds like the type of joke a 4 year old says at the ymca pre school...

The Turkey Has Landed

President Bush's trip to Iraq was very irresponsible. It's still way too dangerous over there for the President to pull a risky public relations stunt like this. How foolish is it for the world's most powerful person to voluntarily fly into a war zone? Like him or hate him, he works for us and it's not his call to risk his neck like that. The little pip-squeak actually thinks he's a cowboy. Imagine he got shot down and we were stuck with Dick Cheney.

Can't wait until election day!!

How frightening a thought is that - President Dick Cheney!

The guy looks like he should play Mr. Potter in a remake of "It's A Wonderful Life." He seems like the kind of guy who'd be truly gleeful as he tried to foreclose on the Building and Loan.

Come on Duncan, put your spine back in place and stand up for your beliefs. Bush’s trip to Baghdad was complete grandstanding. 100% Karl Rove.

Booradley is right that it was irresponsible. What if Bush had gotten greased? We’d have President Dick Cheney, for cryin’ out loud. Heaven help us all.

We actually have posters who say if our president were to be "greased" by terrorists the worst would happen because Dick Cheney would be President. Very lame and to be honest to say something like that probably means your sick in the head.

If Bush doesn't acknowledge our troops or the brave men and women who have lost their lives over there, you folks say he's uncaring.

When he goes to vist the troops and dish out some turkey, that's no good either. It's grandstanding.

You people are too much.

I think what he did was GREAT.

Hey, Straw, I’m sorry my irony is too subtle for you. Bush should think about his personal safety at every turn, precisely because it’s critical for the national security. When Franklin Roosevelt traveled to Malta to meet Churchill and Stalin, the national interest was at stake and the risk was justified. Bush’s trip to Iraq was utterly unnecessary, and therefore reckless.

where is your vaunted sense of humor?

or is it only funny when it's a Clinton joke from 1997?

I'm almost as leftist as that guy who spells his name "tom" and I also found Bush's trip to be heartwaming. Imagine how those troops felt!

Yeah, it helped his re-election campaign, but that's OK. He did a good thing.

By the way, Carter also risked his life. My sister used to do "advance work" for him when he visited NYC. This involved planning out the logistics of his travel. He was known for carrying his own garment bags over his shoulder. They would plant secret service guys on various rooftops, and they'd plan his route. Then while travelling, he'd go against all the plans and turn down an unplanned street, because he wanted to. Pretty dumb. I suppose it was also dumb of Bush, to risk his life that way, but hey, he pulled it off.

Fruitcake-You really think Dick Cheney's not president ?. They put Du(M)bya in for the sole reason that he's not as goofy looking as his brother Jeb and the PR guys could do a lot more dressing W in his little flight suits. When it comes to decisions, I bet Cheney has more of a say then W.

Now all you conservatives can get all in a huff but friends of mine that have extremely conservative views admit (quietly, after a couple of beers) that W's a light weight and they really voted for Cheney (who's just the kind of sneaky SOB they like).

Hey Fruit.. my 'spine' is just fine thanks. And the thing I like most about my 'spine' is its flexibility. As rigid as your 'spine' must be you are at risk of breaking it at every turn. See to have a 'spine' that strict, usually means someone has shoved a stick up somewhere and it stuck.

See if you insult me...I have lowered myself to respond, but its early and I am still on my first cup of coffee
