I was told by a teacher (who will remain nameless) that a loaded gun was confiscated from a student at CHS on Tues, and that a faculty meeting was called Wednesday morning to inform the teachers of the incident.

Has anyone heard anything about this alleged incident?

There was no Wednesday morning faculty meeting. I doubt that there was a loaded gun either.

Marie, why do you always throw out rumors without any backup ?
I love this town and resent tactics that seem made to scare the readers here.

Marie has countless (nameless) contacts on various faculties, public safety organizations, and grassroots nutjob groups. She gets around. And she's HOT! Don't mess with Marie.

-s.

BTW: She's against gun control, too.

I completely take back my entire last post.

...Except the part about her being HOT.

I called the Superintendent to confirm that no such incident occurred.

Dave, can't you just delete this entire thread? The initial message was thoughtless, inconsiderate and inflammatory, and now we find it's a lie. Can't you just make it go away?

No, hold on a second ReallyTrying, there are now a couple more interesting questions:

Did a teacher really claim that a gun was confiscated? Who, and why?

If not, was this a miscommunication or was it made up?

Actually, it might make more sense to leave the thread in place. I'd encourage anyone who hears stories like this to chase them down before posting, but in this case, it's a question asked and answered.

If we deleted it, people who read it and didn't get a chance to read the subsequent correction would assume it's true.

I now take back the part about Marie being HOT, too. How about hot-headed? Half-baked? Incendiary?
Full of hot air?

BTW: She's lawyered-up, folks, so expect a hot time...

Thanks, all - you made some very good points in response to my whining plea. Dave, I appreciate your amending the thread's name. I'd really like to know the answers to the questions posed by Albatross. Since Marie's sources never seem to have names, perhaps her source this time could post here anonymously and explain exactly what happened. ...IF anything did happen.

Marie's source is that little voice in her head that tells her things like "Call right wing lawsuit-happy group and sue my neighbors"

A teacher gave me this information on Friday. The teacher's name will remain anonymous for obvious reasons of retribution against her by the adminstration. Saturday morning a CHS student also told me about the ALLEGED incident involving a loaded gun.

Was this scenario made up by a teacher and then spread through the school via students for fun? Maybe, but I highly doubt it and until I hear it from CHS that no such incident or similar kind of incident did or did not occur I don't think we have a definative answer yet.

I have a child at CHS whose safety is my utmost concern and if there had been any other conversation going on about the ALLEGED incident, I wanted that information before I sent him back to school on Monday morning.

I have spoken with Detective Lahey at the MPD and he told me that he was on duty last week and hadn't heard anything about said ALLEGED incident.

I have a call into Mr Bailey at CHS and expect a return call on the subject sometime tomorrow.

In the meantime, could Brian please confirm that no incidents involving any kind of weapons confiscated by security guards, police or teachers have occured at CHS last week, or at any other time since the beginning of the academic year both in the school and on school grounds?

If you want to protect the innocent, then please don't spread rumors or ask if rumors are true. There is a cost to fear, you know.

An ALLEGED teacher lied about an ALLEGED faculty meeting concerning an ALLEGED incident? I can understand someone saying they heard a rumor about a gun, but making up a story about a facutly meeting? Something's truly not right here.

Here's our moral for today, kiddies: "Don't bother to check your facts before you start a thread on MOL. If your allegations prove to be even remotely correct, you can claim victory and depart the field. If anyone calls you to task for so doing, object strenuously, and impugn their motives, credibility, or associations...

Oh, yes... and always be sure to sue with other people's money!"

-s.

BTW: I'm wondering (A) if Marie's son was in school today, and (2) how grateful he must be for her eternal vigilance and proactive legal action.

This teacher, if she gave you such information, acted irresponsibly, and should fear retribution. To be honest, it would be her own fault for starting this story. If this turns out to be untrue (as it appears to be), then there is a serious problem.

I like how one isolated story has turned into a demand for disciplinary information from the high school.
Why don't you call Renee Pollack, the HS principal, who would more likely have such information? Mr. O'Leary is very intelligent, but not omniscient.

I have contact with some teachers at Columbia. I will ask them about any such occurrences.
