take a look at this:
Parents want gay men's sons expelled

Mon Jan 3, 9:51 PM ET Community - Planet Out

Associated Press

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Some parents and parishioners have accused the Roman Catholic diocese in Orange County of violating church doctrine by allowing a gay couple to enroll their children in a church school.

The group demanded that St. John the Baptist School in Costa Mesa accept only families that pledge to abide by Catholic teachings, the Los Angeles Times reported in Sunday's editions. Church doctrine opposes gay relationships and adoption by same-sex couples.

"The teachings of the church seem to have been abandoned," John R. Nixon told the Times. "We send our children to a Catholic school because we expect and demand that the teachings of our church will be adhered to."

School officials rejected the demand, and issued a new policy stating that a family's background "does not constitute an absolute obstacle to enrollment in the school."

The parents' demand would presumably prevent two adopted boys whose parents are both men from attending the school's kindergarten.

The Rev. Gerald M. Horan, superintendent of diocese schools, said that if Catholic beliefs were strictly adhered to, then children whose parents divorced, used birth control or married outside the church would also have to be banned.

"This is the quagmire that the parents' position represents," he said. "It's a slippery slope to go down."

The boys' parents, who enrolled their children at the beginning of the school year, declined to comment to the Times.

Some parents have promised to ask the Vatican (news - web sites) to intervene, and some have threatened to pull their children from the school. Others are worried the boys' attendance will set a precedent, saying their presence is part of a larger effort by the gay community to change the church.

"The boys are being used as pawns by these men to further their agenda," said Monica Sii, who has four children at the school.

Truly horrific, and made me thank my lucky stars I live here.

Good thing that the right wing wasn't emboldened by the scare-tactics that swung the election. So, now these children are "sinners" because their parents are?

Yeah - it's a good thing you live here. It's not like anyone is suing the public schools for the rights of their kids to practice religion or is complaining about Jewish faith-based schools not selling Christmas items.

If the people I knew IRL weren't so wonderful, I really would think about heading to Canada.....

I wonder if any students there come from families with divorced parents - that's against Catholic doctrine, too. Oh, and let's hope none of their parents had premarital sex. Also, make sure none of them eat meat on Friday, except fish, of course...

I suppose they have the right to deny anyone they want since they're a private institution, but at least be consistant.

I guess intolerance is not an MSO exclusive.

A little ignorance goes a long way.

Rev. Horan seems to have the right idea.

"idiot parents"-ina-If you're Christian, not very Christian of you (and not Jesus-like). If your Jewish, not very righteous of you. C'mon Muslims, Buddhists, etc, help me out.

Whatever creed you are it's a hurtful, ignorant statement. Are you really of such moral high standing that you can judge others ?.

This is why we need more religion in our public schools. Too many children of sinners roaming the hallways.

These parents should look in the mirror and ask themselves if they are PERFECT! If they are, then I'll kiss their feet. When they discover the truth, they aren't perfect they need to remove their kids from the school as well. Shallow people! Being gay is not a sin...

I think that to insure that only children of truly good practicing Catholic parents attend that school they should limit enrollment to the children of Priests and Nuns only.

"I think that to insure that only children of truly good practicing Catholic parents attend that school they should limit enrollment to the children of Priests and Nuns only."

Ohhhhh, not only is it "hip" (yeah right) to ban christmas music, but it's OK to bash Catholics as well.

Not cool.

Well, addy, guess what Miss Pompous Pants...
You're wrong!
I do not think being gay is bad. making fun of my mom's religion make me "uncomfortable." (Actually it doesn't, but for the sake of argument...)
Oh - and before anyone goes off their little rockers to "remind" me how I feel about the koran and islam fundamentalists, name one catholic that murdered any of your friends. Seriously.

Sometimes reading a thread before posting helps.

(hint: the posts are about the parents, not Catholicism)
