Debby, My Candace Kane lived near Springfield and Union, also in the 60's. Mustg be a common name!

I used to have a neighbor in So. Orange who named her daughter Baldwin Little-Virgin. "Nuff said.

I can tell you lots of stories about your name becoming infamous after you have had it for years. Let's just say that I still get incredible reactions from both policemen and African Americans when I tell them my name.

Regards,

(The Real) Mark Furman

Uke:

You know Sing Sai Schwartz! My best friend in grad school grew up in Brooklyn and had a friend named Sing Sai Schwartz--surely there couldn't be two? Could there?

He also told of an electronics store named Focus Electronics that was owned by Hasidic Jews. When you called the store, they answered in a very Yiddish-inflected way--"Hello, Fuccus."

People I've known:

Terry Terry (married name)
Rocky Mountain (Texas)
Candy Mountain (Rocky's Sister)
Snow White
Dr. Glidewell (orthopedic surgeon)
Peter Dick (Very dear friend - looked scary as hell as a architecture student/east village resident. But he would wear, seriously, a long strand of pearls over a silk waistcoat to parties! Great guy....but you have to grow up tough with a name like that.)
