I hear the sale of LM to St. Barnabas Medical Center is a done deal. Maplewood and South Orange municipalities should attempt to lure existing mall tenants into our villages. The time for a concerted effort to act is now.

Another hair salon, let's up the ante - what do you think?

What, Livingston Mall is to be closed? What is St Barnabas going to do with it?

Mayor - I heard that it won't be for 2-3 years. You'll miss the Roy Rogers though, I know it.

According to my source (my son's hair cutter at Kidz Kutz), St. B purchased part of the PARKING LOT of the Livingston Mall -- not the entire mall.

Shoshannah's comment makes a lot more sense. From an earlier thread it appears St Bs wants to build an outpatient surgery center and I can't see one of those taking up the whole mall and parking lot.

Well, I don't know if I'll miss Roy Rogers, but I don't know of any other ones in the area, or the world for that matter.

I heard that Saint Barnabas planning on opening a medical school in 3-5 yeas where the mall is now.

Check out the new St. Barnabas "surgery center" next to CVS....the old Hospice space. They are still working on an ultra-glamorous space. Must be for plastic surgery I imagine.

I thought they had an outpatient surgery center already. What is the facility on the south side of S.O. Ave?

I had tests done there last summer & swore it did same-days.

God, I hate this sort of stupid know-nothing gossip. Of course, nobody here has bothered to ask anyone who's actually a SBHCS employee, let alone anyone in a position to know if this set of rumors has any basis in fact. Why am I not surprised...

Never mind. I'm wrong. This is all very helpful.
Keep it up. It's probably theraputic in some way.

-s.

BTW: I dunno if I'd trust a scissor-jockey at Kidz Kutz for the right time of day, let alone something like this.

Soda,
I though stupid know-nothing gossip was right up your alley... I guess I misunderstood all of your posts.
Also, just because someone cuts hair for a living doesn't mean they are an idiot, and not even worth the time it takes to ask them a question. People who think like that are the ones who don't deserve the time of day. People who look down on others because of their job, or position, without knowing anything else deserve a daily punch in the face.

Still, a little factual information from a primary source never hurt.

A):"I though (SP!) stupid know-nothing gossip was right up your alley... I guess I misunderstood all of your posts."
2): "Also, just because someone cuts hair for a living doesn't mean they are an idiot, and not even worth the time it takes to ask them a question."
C): "People who think like that are the ones who don't deserve the time of day. People who look down on others because of their job, or position, without knowing anything else deserve a daily punch in the face."
Mr. Mayor:
A): Only partially. My posts may indeed be stupid (occasionally, as, evidently, was the one cited above), but rarely are they comprised of know-nothing gossip. My anal-retentive nature simply won't allow it. Nor will it permit frequent typos, as your own (shall we say) more laid-back style seems totally okay with...
2): I quite agree. But have you ever actually MET some of the snippers at Kidz Kutz?
C): Gotta go now. I'm off to get my daily punch in the face, and there's a line...

-s.

BTW: Who actually elected you?

I looked at the St. B's Website, actually, and didn't see anything about this.

May I say from a confidential source (I trust the reliability of the source). If you allow for this premise, would you suggest our local officials to act to lure existing tenants to Maplewood and South Orange? How about Springfield Avenue? What stores, if any, would you like to see relocate to our towns?

I post this "rumor" only to allow our communities to reach out to those who will be affected by the closure and to solicit public opinion as to how we can turn this into a plus for our towns.

If you feel it is not worthy of discussion, so be it.

So, Who's Yer Source, Pizzaz? Don't name them. Just tell us: How would they be in a position to pass such credible info on to you, by dint of their occupation, employer, or, perhaps, their medium?

You got some splainin' to to, Pizzaz...

Pizzaz:

Assuming your source is reliable and accurate and assuming there is adequate time before the big closing to meet with and lure some of the Mall businesses to SO/M, which ones would you want to see locate in our two towns aand which ones do you think would consider our lot size/commercial square footage, rent/purchase costs, traffic flow, parking, demographics, purchasing patterns, etc. a good fit for them?

Note: If any of these businesses could be shown to do better in SO/M than at the Mall, would it be necessary to wait for the Mall to close before making such a deal?
