In the "wondering if it's just me" category... Over the past year, I seem to see more and more women wearing fishnet stockings at work. I suppose they've made their way into mainstream fashion somehow. Am I just old fashioned or do fishnets seem a little bit "much" to wear to work? I throw it into the same category as wearing a black bra under a white shirt. It just reveals way more about a colleague than I care to know.... Are fishnet stockings acceptable professional attire (we're a business casual office)?? Am I just too conservative or am I just no longer in the "know" on fashion details? Or, perhaps this is a clear sign that I'm officially "old"... Do you wear fishnets to work?

Yes, but only if I am wearing a long skirt. |

That seems reasonable. BTW - I'm not trying to criticize anyone who does wear them. I think it's me who's out of touch with fashion (wouldn't be the first time...) |

No. I couldn't pull off fishnets and I don't think I have seen many (any) women who pull off that look successfully. I really don't like the look. |

No. Under no circumstances. Well, I suppose if you are a performer, hooker or maitre'd, it's OK. Other office no-nos that make me nuts: Cleavage Miniskirts Stretch pants Tammy Faye make-up Perfume that can be smelled more than 6 inches away Stockings with open toed shoes (that's always a controversial one - more fashion crime than office decorum crime) Professional women (again, excluding hookers) with talon finger nails, with or without air-brushed designs. I could go on....

I think if the rest of the outfit is relatively conservative it can work just fine. (Like with a knee length skirt and sweater, flats or low to mid-heel pumps or a nice pair of boots.) If it's with a mini skirt, tank top and stilettos, I couold see it being a problem. I very rarely (a few times per year) wear skirts with stockings (sorry, I can't call them pantyhose, either stockings or tights) but when I do I wear fishnets, either nude or black. No one ever thought I looked trampy. |

Um, didn't fishnets go out in the 80's? or are the 80's coming back? What is the deal with open toed shoes? I never wear them because my feet are always cold at work (I'm colder in the summer than the winter because of the a/c). But I thought open toes were a no-no, and that stocking-less legs were a no-no. Is that only in a business dress environment? I pretty much wear pants all the time (when we were business dress and now with business casual) but many of the (mainly younger) women wear skirts with no stockings and strappy sandals.

Fishnets (in my fashionable opinion) have been stylish for at least the past 4 years. (Remember the late 80's to 90's were all about black tights, then it became all about the nude pantyhose—or bare legs—then we found a middle ground with fishnets and textured stockings.) |

It definitely depends on the out fit and work enviroment. Fishnets are very in now and acceptable if done correctly!! |

As I said what do I know. I'm 4'10" and never wear heels (or skirts/dresses). If I went back to dressing nicely I would definitely do textured stockings as long as they didn't make me look like I was 12 (not counting the bags under the eyes). And I agree it is the WAY you wear them that makes the difference. But hey I bought some new pants from the gap so I must be semi-hip...or is gap just getting more boring? |

My 2 cents: I think they are inappropriate for most office settings, but my caveat would be: it depends on your industry. I work in a very creative environment. They would be fully acceptable, albeit not always attractive, in my office setting. |

As long as they're not the "reverse fit" or pleated pants that are "only online" you should be ok! |

I wore nude-colored fishnets one day to work (I work in a creative Internet company, where people wear jeans and ripped t-shirts so virtually anything goes), and got a lot of compliments. I had seen them in one of those magazines as a good compromise for people who want to try this trend but aren't quite ready to go all the way to black fishnets. I liked them a lot. They were $13 at Nordstrom. |

I wore nude ones to Pippi's wedding. They were $8 or $10 at Macy's. |

My personal opinion - they're ugly and tacky looking, and if you have nice legs they don't do any enhancing. But I don't really care if someone else wears them. |

When the space shuttle exploded and rained parts all over Texas and Oklahoma the crumpette who is the Fox on "Fox and Friends" was pressed into service as the main anchor for the story since it was a weekend. She was wearing fishnets and I found it very jarring. But, yeah I noticed, obviously. As someone who has had to "discuss" business dress with a number of employees over the years, reluctantly, I think it is distracting at best in most business offices.
