I think my favorite Who song is "Getting in Tune".

Although my favorite album might be "Who by Numbers".

What are your thoughts?

I love By Numbers, but I've been listening to a lot of early stuff recently. Who's Missing, Sell Out, Odds and Sods, etc..
Favorite song of the moment might be So Sad About Us.
Although Bargain was the last song I heard on the Ipod on my way in this morning so it's gotta be up there.

The Real Me-Moon and Entwistle are at the top of their game on this tune.

Favorite album is probably Live at Leeds, one of the best live records ever released.

Agree completely on Live at Leeds and I actually prefer the original 6 song release.
Young Man Blues is one of the best stress releasers ever...

Happy Friday!

-s.

BTW: I always get a kick out of how well-behaved the (obviously mostly young male) audience is on "Live At Leeds". I especially like "A Quick One While He's Away".

While we're on this subject, let me bring up something that has always puzzled me about one Who song in particular.

In 1971, for Pete's Lifehouse project, he wrote a song called "Don't Even Know Myself" which appeared in the form of a rare single before it made it onto the 400 compilation packages they've put out.

Buried in the second or third verse is something bizarro: Pete uses the "N" word!

Does anyone know why? I've never been able to get to the bottom of it.

He was doing research, having been forced to wear blackface as a child...

Goin Mobile may be the best road trip song by the Who. But all of Quadrophenia is my favorite Who "song"

Give me Quadrophenia and you can have everything else they've done.

David, what's the matter with you?
What about "Who are you"?
"I woke up in a SoHo doorway, a policeman knew my name. He said..."

Quadrophenia..made me realize the genius of Townsend. Also makes me partial to most Townsend solo/non-Who projects...Rough Mix, Empty Glass, All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes...Im forgetting one (besides White City).

Best song? sheesh..easy to pick a fave or two per album. The Real Me. Nothing against the individual songs already listed. Kids Are Alright..515..Welcome...Substitute...Eminence Front

My favorite live "Who" recording...Pete Townsend's Deep End Live.

Hank - I remember I had a great P.T. acoustic cover of Save It For Later and A Little is Enough on vinyl. Was that Deep End Live?
I think it might have been a benefit album w/ other bands but I'm drawing a blank.

I've been listening to Quadrophenia for the last hour on my Grado RS-1s and it's a just brilliant. The lyrics, Daltrey's voice, the musicianship. Townshend's guitar jumps out from every angle.

Did any of you see the movie from 1979? Sting's first movie.

I'm going to ask my friends at the Maplewood Theatre to show The Kids Are Alright one Sat/Sun morning. Anyone up for it?

I'll show up. It's been almost 20 years since I last saw it on a double feature with 200 Motels.

I want someone to find McVicar. Not a good film, but a great soundtrack.

Saw Quadrophenia in '79 when it was released. I recall it being a pretty decent film. VH1 used to show it occasionally but stopped because the ratings were microscopic.
