We've all had our brushes with fame, even if we are consigned to the suburban depths of mediocrity ourselves. Which celebrities/stars/famous people have MOL denizens ploinked? How was it? How extensive was the ploinkage? |

What does "ploink" mean? If you want to know what celebrities people have met, that might make for an interesting thread. |

In the when where I come from "ploinked" means, well, really upclose and personal. |

Alas, I am bereft of upscale ploinkage. If you could see me in person, you would find it remarkable that I ever got any ploinkage at all (and indeed, my ploink history is somewhat lacking). And I think you know what I mean by ploink. |

Well, I shook hands and chatted with Peggy Noonan. I didn't even know who she was at the time. |

I shook hands and chatted with JFK, Jr., knowing full well who he was at the time. Just about as nice as you could want him to be. I was introduced to him, we shook hands, and he says "Hi, *****, I'm John." As if the whole world didn't know who he was. Gotta love it. |

Leonard Bernstein tried to ploink my first girlfriend. There was quite an age difference but she was still pretty star struck. Started making out with her on a piano bench no less. |

Well I never ploinked a celebrity, but the most memorable encounter with one has to be the time I shook hands and spoke with John Lennon (late summer of '76). Living in Manhattan (and working as a waiter/bartender for a number of years) I saw a lot of famous people, but meeting John was a lifelong dream come true for me. I saw him a few more times after that (we lived in the same neighborhood) but I only spoke with him the one time. I also spoke with Art Garfunkel on the phone once; we had a mutual friend. We chatted for around 20 minutes. He was very nice. I never met him though. |

I danced with Conan O'Brian on NBC. (I was sitting in the front row and he came into the audience) I almost ran into Ice-T on my skateboard. Law and Order SVU was filming near my old apartment in Morningside Heights. Is Ploinked the same as plooked (a la Zappa)? |

Jeffl, you reminded me. Just a few months ago, I was at a party at Jamie Bernstein's apartment. She is Leonard's daughter and a composer in her own right. Someone there offered my 12 year old daughter a hash brownie. But other than that, it was a very good party. |

I slept with Barney Frank. Okay, we were sitting next to each other on a plane from Boston to DC, and we did sleep. I pride myself that I did not talk to him about politics all the way to DC--figured the guy gets enough of that at his job. |

sort of 6 degrees of separation...(varying degrees I guess) John DiResta, the comic cop (Miss Congeniality, the worst sitcom ever DiResta, Trash to Cash) is my cousin (our dads are first cousins) his brother is engaged to this woman Heather. They went to HS together but got together just a few years ago. In HS she dated Eddie Burns and they were all friends with one of the guys from Third Bass. My husband and I both got licked by Lee Tergesen from HBO's Oz. Don't ask. My husband met the old baseball player who died not too long ago, what's hs name, used to do the commercial for the Money Store. Bought him a box of cannolis. Oh yeah, Phil Rizzuto. On our flight back from our honeymoon in Greece, we sat next to Bob Costa's UNCLE, who was a diabetic and was freaking me out with his insulin needle. Hubby's got many more, I don't.

Any fans of the X-Files here? I met and got the autograph of the Mulder's arch-nemesis, the cigarette smoking man. I can't believe I actually waited in line for that... On a different note (no pun intended), one of my composition teachers was David Diamond, who knew the French composer Maurice Ravel personally. I can trace the lineage: composerjohn ----> David Diamond -----> Maurice Ravel -----> Faure ----> Camille Saint-Saëns ------>Liszt ----->Czerny ---->Beethoven ----->Haydn ----> Mozart -----> J. C. Bach -----> J. S. Bach |

michael jackson ploinked me when i was 5, but when i saw him again at 21 he pretended he didn't know me! a large cash settlement (and a hand puppet) kept me at bay. |
