Had lunch with Keith Richards, he paid and played.

Andre Gregory borrowed $20 from me, Wally Shawn paid me back.

Coffee with Garrison Keillor, Jon Cryer, John Lone, Peter Duchin and Brooke Heyward.

Tommy Hilfiger regularly critiqued my clothing.

Peter Yarrow's nickname for me-Bubbie

Hanging out with Jerry Seinfeld.

Watching Jerry Garcia nod out on his sofa.

But, my all-time favorite ploink is being in bed and between Darryl Hannah's legs....

As I changed a light-bulb in her bedroom.
I was an electrical contractor in another lifetime.

early spring, 1979...my lunch with Timothy Leary. He was speaking at my school and a friend of mine, who ran the program board that arranged it all asked me if I could drive Leary to the airport the next day (since I had a car and my friend didnt). He had spoken before a couple of thousand and pissed alot of them off because he wanted to not talk about the 60s and LSD but about research he was doing on outer space (one in the same probably).

A couple of friends came along and before the hour drive, I popped in a Dead 8-track tape (yes, 8-track). He told us that of course he loved the Dead and been backstage countless times and was close friends with all the guys, and that he really loved "the Floyd", but that his favorite was Bowie, because Bowie kept changing things and re-inventing himself. He said a few disparaging things about Nixon but refrained from being too specific. And when asked if he still took psycho-active drugs, he said that he would only take substances that were not illegal (as LSD had not been illegal when he first started using it and advocating it). He said, theres a drug growing in popularity on the West Coast called "XTC" that he would take...and enjoyed writing and making love with his wife when taking it.

We were early..he must have liked the company..he bought us lunch and talked with us about college life and asked about our families. He told us he knew he was pissing off alot of people at the talk who came out to only hear about the 60s and drugs but that after being arrested, he wasnt going to go lecture about that and was more interested in talking about his current work. I can remember how impressed I was at the time in what great shape he was in physically despite being around 60.

Since I've worked in different areas of entertainment, I've been with a few (in no particualr order):

OJ Simpson - pre murder and one of the biggest jerks I ever worked with. Met Nicole also...

Phil Donahue, Spike Lee, Roger Daltry, Evander Holyfield, Barbara Walters, Conan O'Brian, Max Weinberg, Al Pacino, Andy Warhol, Jerry Lewis, Paul Anka, Garret Morris, Lorne Michaels, and of course Elizabeth Shue (graduated with her).

There are probably others that I can't think of right now...

I met Terri Roche (sp?) of the Roche sisters at a party. Talked to her at length. She told me a funny story. A famous Buddhist monk was so impressed to meet her. He introduced her to someone else but had forgotten her name, so he said, "I want you to meet a very good friend of mine, the Roche sisters," yet there was only one.

My wife's ex-husband is Ken Peplowski, famous jazz clarinetist. So he would pass the ploink test.

composerjohn, this is for you... I had a Music History professor (he taught baroque and contemporary) who ploinked Vaughan Williams for a brief period of time.

Bill Murray was watching a youth orchestra I was playing in once in Lincoln Square. He said he liked the Dvorak piece and signed my copy of March Slav... I still have it.

I have a friend who swears he bought Queen Latifah a drink at the Gaslight one night.

I danced with both Donnie Wahlberg and Mark Wahlberg and met Reese Witherspoon (who was dating Mark at the time) at a wedding.

Went to HS with Jon Cryer , John Favreau and either 'Kid' or 'Play' - whichever one had the 'fro tower.

A six degrees story a la Shh: my brother's ex-girlfriend got on an elevator with Shirley McLean. She said, "Oh my God! You're Warren Beatty's sister!"

Ooh - and I once visited Al Hirschfeld in his brownstone when I was really young.

I met Kelsey Grammer at a party in 1979, well before Cheers and Frasier. Incredibly nice and very funny guy. In fact, I steeled myself and called him a few days later to see if he'd like to get together. Alas, he politely declined.

Husband was a freshman at Hamilton College when Liza Minelli was filming "Sterile Cuckoo" there. He and a few classmates took her to dinner.

Actually, I do have one story. When I was but a wee callow lad I briefly dated a girl whose mother was a famous novelist and who cannibalized the lives of her family for material. Years later I was in a bookstore and picked up one of her books and realized she had cannibalized me for the details of one of her characters, who was dating someone obviously based on her daughter. Alas, in the book I slept with her, while in real life our ploinkage was satisfying but not as advanced. Yet more evidence that fiction is better than real life.

Tom-
Did your wife take voice lessons several years ago in the city with Ray Harrel (Sp?) Our paths might have crossed- I took group vocal lessons in Ray's studio with my band.

I once got drunk with William Sanderson ("Larry" of "Larry, Daryl and Daryl") from the Newhart show.

I also hung out with David Peel for a few months in the 80s. Interesting experience.

My wife and I had a very nice conversation with Lauren Hill, her mom and her new daughter while shopping (very close to closing time) at Nordstrom's in the Short Hills Mall. Her daughter and our son are very close in age. What I noticed most of all was how approachable she was and how friendly both her and her mom were. It was my wife who noticed her and they exchanged smiles and then Ms. Hill asked about our son. Unfortunately, the exchange was short lived as we heard someone say, "Hey there she is!" and in an instant there were five or six people swarming around her asking for her autograph. Her mom had said that the best time to go shopping was right before the store closed so they had some peace.

Another "brush with greatness" was when I took my wife to buy golf clubs at some superstore in Secaucus. She was casually swinging her club and she clipped Lawrence Taylor in the shin. He was loud and engaging to everyone. What struck me was his size - he was a big guy.

I was at college at the same time Jay Greenspan was, though he was a couple of years ahead of me, and we didn't have any classes in common. But we passed each other a lot. He now goes by the name Jason Alexander, and he played George Costanza on Seinfeld and various movie roles.

Ben, I'll ask my wife. She is a singer. Funny how the music world seems small so often.

Went to H.S. with Donna Karan (not her name then), Tony Kornheiser, Jim Steinman, Errol Morris, Alan Zweibel, and Ross Blechner.

While in college, worked as an usher at the Fillmore East from '69 to '71, ploinking numerous rock luminaries. While I was working stage security at White Lake, a very drunk Janis tripped over my outstretched legs on the bridge to the stage. I looked up from my semi-stupor and said, "Hey, you're Janis Joplin, aren't you?" "Yeah", she said. "Ya wanna fight about it?"

While driving a NYC cab, I picked up Arthur Rubenstein, who commented that he liked my choice of radio music (WNCN-FM).

After visiting NBC Studios at 30 Rock Plaza one Saturday afternoon, I encountered Nelson Rockefeller crossing the street, and called out "Hi, Rocky!", to which he responded "How ya doin' fella?" in that wonderful grating voice of his.

While living on W. 80th Street and "walking" my dog on the W. 81st St. Lawn of the Museum of Natural History, she was attacked by a large Akita owned by Linda Ronstadt, who was staying with Pete Hammill on W. 81st Street while performing in "Pirates of Penzance". Linda was totally apologetic, paid the vet bill, sent my wife & me front-row seats to the show, and asked us backstage after the show, where she introduced us to Kevin Kline, Rex Smith, and George Rose.

One late Saturday night in 1976, eating a late supper at the Museum Cafe on Amsterdam, we sat next to a table occupied by John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, and Lorraine Newman, who were drinking champagne.

Stood in a long Westside Citibank ATM line right behind Sigourney Weaver, who heaved a huge sigh to indicate her frustration. "Patience, Sigourney", I said. "Right", she replied.

Sat right behind Yogi Berra and his wife at the Claridge in Montclair, and right in front of William Shatner at a horse show at the Meadowlands.

-s.

BTW: If any of the aforementioned (and still breathing) people happen to be MOL'ers, I would respectfully ask that they not "out" me on this thread...

As a kid I rode a trans-Atlanic flight with "Albert the Butler" of the 60's TV show Batman. Met Bruce Lee as a kid when he came to my school to do a Karate demo when he was on The Green Hornet.
Since then, it's all been downhill: Clapton, Peter Gabriel. James Brown, The Blues Brothers, Paul Newman

Soda - I like your style. I have a brick from the filmore east. They had torn it down to make room for something. If I hold it close to my ear I can still hear fat mattress.

marion cobretti! I would never lie. It wasn't a prom style slow dance. More of a cha cha cha at a party for one of her bad movies.
