Strawberry is. Of course, he doesn't like to talk about himself, that's why he asked me to post this instead.

>> About 17% of humans are left-handed. The same is true of chimpanzees and gorillas.

More than 2,500 left handed people are killed every year from using right handed products.

Right handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left handed people.

quote:

Right handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left handed people

But we lead much richer, more fulfilling lives. Every day a right handed person wakes up, looks in the mirror and frowns from the realization that they're not special.

Left handed people bound out of bed, look in the mirror, see the flashing light that says

"You're different and you're very special"

and smile.

S, I don't know about Cleon and you, but when I was a kid we used to play baseball after school and usually didn't have enough kids for full teams, resulting in a rule where hitting to right field was an out. That is why I started batting righty.

LL, so far I have avoided anything fatal. However, everytime I fire up the circular saw I worry about losing a digit or two.

Lefty for writing, sewing, throwing. Righty for mouse, batting and golf. Go figure. My mom was also lefty, both my sons are clearly righty.

I believe that within the overall % of lefties, a lot more men are lefty than women.

Sinister AND gauche! what bad press!

We played the same way. We usually only had 5 kids on a team so we played fungo with 2 outfielders, a shortstop, third baseman and someone at first.

Cleon's Career highlights:

1) .340 in 1969
2) Kneeling in the outfield after catching the last out of the '69 World Series
3) Getting caught with a white woman in a van

Lefty here. I use the mouse and write with my left hand, but I use scissors and iron with my right. Brush my teeth with my left hand, but brush my hair with my right. My parents were both right-handed, so are my sons, and my grandchildren. I had some left-handed cousins. The reason that righties live longer than lefties is that the world is set up for righties, and lefties have more accidents. I read an interesting book, called "The Lefthander Syndrome" (I think that's it), which shed a lot of light on handedness.

9 years longer lifespan for righties - come on! That's not even close to accurate.

Nancy:

The cat on my lap is definitely left-pawed. When I try to teach him how to shake hands/paws he always lead with his left front leg. He also throws a mean left jab.

You know what I find interesting. Most of the posters who are lefty's actually comprise some of the more intelligent MOL posters. From Sbenois to ERoberts to Zona and myself, some pretty sharp customers.

Not to mention AJC, Bobk and LibraryLady..

Funny, you don't see some of the biggest boobs on the site here such as....

this is where I usually get myself in trouble with Dave, so let's just say the biggest boobs...period.

THIS IS ONE CASE WERE I CAN SAY LEFTY'S ARE PROUD AMERICANS!!

politically though, they're still dumb as a door knob.

FOr those of you interested in fretted instruments and play left-handed, Mandolin Brothers on Staten Island (the premier guitar and mandolin dealer in the Northeast) has in fact a small section called The Leftorium, with about 100 left-handed instruments on display--- these aren't right-handed ones that have been re-strung either, but built for left-handers. Check out Mandolin Brothers if you're into fretted instruments.

Paul McCartney is a lefty (which is probably part of the reason Sbenois likes him so much). My mother and my son are lefties. I only see out of my left eye so I'm a visual lefty. But, I write with my right hand.

When I was in elementary school in the 1960s, my school district had a Penmanship teacher, named Miss Riley, who was about 85 and wore perfume that made you gag and 40 years later I can still hear her chanting, "Up, Down, Retrace and SWING!!!!!!!!!! "

Anyway, she HATED left handers. I knew from my mother, the lefty, that in the old days lefties were punished and sometimes forced to become right-handed and Miss Riley was old enough to have been my mother's teacher.

One day, while we were scribing at our desks, we were all jolted by a sudden loud thump and turned to see, our left handed classmate, Paul Bradley's head slam to his desk. Miss Riley had caught him sitting in a slouch with his head in his hand and had shoved it out from under and told him not sit like that because it was bad for his handwriting.

We all figured this was just part of Miss Riley's charm that we would have to put up with, but a few days later we were surprised when our 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Gogin brought up the incident for class discussion. I was shocked to hear a teacher speak negatively about another teacher, but Mrs. Gogin let us know that she had had a "talk" with Miss Riley and that going forward we could expect an improvement in her attitude towards left-handed students.

Then Mrs. Gogin, with a determined, wry little smug smile told us that her final words to Miss Riley were, "You want to know how I know this? Because I'M LEFT-HANDED."
