Any member of the township committee can be selected as the chair. Every member of the township committee can vote (even for themselves) for the chair of the committee - who serves as Mayor in that position. The Mayor has a vote, the same as every other committee member, which makes a township committee different from a Mayor-Council form of government. I think that's what you were asking. |

Thanks. I thought so. If Vic wins a seat at the expense of either Frederico or Ian, then I think Vic, Ken and David vote for David to take the center chair.

Funny how the liberal elites will vote for Montclair State over Harvard and Yale!! Vic needs to find another town for his political aspirations. He got on the TC within 2 years of moving to town. I'm sure he could do it somewhere else as well. |

quote:Lydia I think there are plenty of people who agree with you IF you switch Vic and Fred's name with each other in your above post. You see vilifying by Vic; others don't. You see listening well by Fred; others don't. That's what makes politics and horseraces, as they say. No one has the absolute truth; that much maybe reasonable people can agree on.
You are so reasonable! I agree the names can be reversed, my experience with DeLuca is mine to own. I think that people get involved in local politics for laudable and altruistic reasons for the most part. Anyone who supports a local candidate cares deeply about the town they live in. I hope that this election doesn't pit neighbors and friends against each other. When the dust settles and the votes are counted we all have to wake up in the same town and work together. Let's have informed conversations and respect each other's different opinions and philosophies. It doesn't have to be a bumpy ride, but I'm fastening my seatbelt just in case.

I really hate Strawman...everyone's a moron except him.....yeah right! And while I'm revealing what I hate, I hate it when Art begins a sentence with the word "Listen" |

Sbenois, didn't you move to South Orange? Or was that a joke? Ian is probably more vulnerable than Fred in a primary election since he is pretty low key, although I think enough people remember Vic's days on the TC to make his run without the endorsement of the Maplewood Dem Committee a long shot. I really don't see Ken voting for either David or Vic, assuming he gets one of the leather chairs, for Mayor.

Cfa, I don't like the word hate... Listen, hey, however, FWIW, BTW, etc. are sentence openers; slang, a style, and just figures of speech I use. MOL is a relaxing form of recreation for me. And, because I'm among some of the more active posters on-line, some of my posts get a little long. For that reason I try to keep it interesting, mostly for myself. I enjoy using slang, color, size, and font changes. I tend to think about my posts as an ART style, more like an artist painting a picture, but that's enough about me... So what else do you HATE about me? I don’t recall anyone asking you what you thought about my style of posting. Plus, I thought we both agreed to stay clear of each other. Listen Pal, if your looking for trouble again, I'm your man... And, don't think because you're in Florida I can't find you. I suggest you keep your smart comments about me to yourself, or I just might come down there and sink your boat...

S- "In June of '03, Vic didn't campaign on the West Side" That says an enormous amount right there. I remember when we had one of those reval meetings in the high school auditorium. Everyone had questions, gripes, etc. Vic was "working" the room before the meeting. He came over to the group of people I was sitting with. I said, "Vic, I have a couple quesitons." He listened, then didn't like my questions, then stormed away. THis was my mayor? Weak. |

Someone wrote just above: "Funny how the liberal elites will vote for Montclair State over Harvard and Yale!!" No matter who any of us may support, if that's what some people consider reasonable political discourse in this town, that's a real shame. |

Wow. Could there be a better reason to vote for Vic than the fact that Straw hates him?? I'm new to local politics, but I'd wager Vic just upped his chances by 30-40 percent by getting RENOUNCED by certain posters. |

Well, the "look who supports so-and-so" game is also played on MOL. It's usually better to look at the candidates themselves, instead of where the "screen-names" choose up sides. |

Very true, Nohero. And I have. I've been very impressed with the current mayor, and have actually felt Vic's response to the development proposal, especially his seeming reluctance to attempt to lure chain outlets to Springfield Avenue, was lacking in leadership and foresight. Still, it's hard to discount the political opinions of certain screen names.

right, I led the anti-Vic crowd on MOL the last time around and even wound up being quoted in the Ledger. To this day, that ranks up there as one of the worst Nohero ever experienced. He's still bitter about me, not him being the voice of MOL. BE PROUD, BE AMERICAN AND MAKE SURE WE KEEP MAPLEWOOD OUT OF THE HANDS OF THE CARPETBAGGER. Rob Livingston, new to local politcs...What a surprise, a complete novice strikes again. |

Fred sat next to me at a wedding. He had no idea it was me. Instead he assumed I was just a fellow millionaire!

"Remember the Photo of executed Mass Murderer John Wayne Gacy with Roslyn Carter?" Parkbench, Isn't that a misplaced modifier? Or was Roslyn photographed next to the corpse?

Art, I'm not looking for trouble, but if you'd like to come down to Florida, please be my guest. The weather is beautiful. If you'd like, I'll PL you my address. We have almost as many bedrooms as you do so there's plenty of room for you to stay and the good thing is, we don't charge. Listen, I'm not afraid of you. This is a free board in which anyone can make whatever comments they want. Just to set the record straight, I was commenting on you, per se, it was your choice of words. Anyway, don't make a big deal out of nothing. I"m sure you have bigger fish to fry. But again, just to let you know, I'm definately not afraid of you, so if you're ever in Florida, look me up and we'll see what happens.

Cfa, Thank you for your reply and generous offer. My daughter lives on the east coast, and one of my best and longest friends on the west coast. I also make several business trips each year to the sunshine state, and I would enjoy paying you a visit. The next trip that I have extra time, I’ll PL you for your address… BTW, check the first word in your last comment to me, “ Listen, I'm not afraid of you.” Now lets go back to your original comment, “I hate it when Art begins a sentence with the word "Listen". “ So listen to me; I know you’re not afraid of me, I know you’re not looking for trouble, and I believe you must know, either am I… Actually, I think you enjoy the action on MOL as much as I do... One more thing, contrary to popular belief, probably half or more of my guests don’t pay either. So, next time you decide to visit friends back up here, please be my guest .
