I just spoke to the owner of Crescent Driving Range. I asked when it was going to become a Walmart, mostly b/c I have a bunch of unused tokens, and I wanted to make sure I used them before the place closed. He said, "It's not going to be a Walmart." I said I hope it remains a driving range, and he said, "It's not going to do that, though, either...", and then, he seemed clear to me he didn't want me to pry, and that he was perhaps a bit annoyed that I asked. Anyone know what is going on here? Not sure if this was already covered on here. Sorry if it was. Thanks |

Maybe a Lowes? this is wishful thinking on my part, but the rumor is that the deal at the old Bradley's site on Route 22 at Vaux Hall fell through and Lowes tends to be kind of secretive on their plans. |

"Anyone know what is going on here?" Well, the 5,000 messages posted about the imminent arrival of Wal-Mart at the driving range would seem to make teh answer to that question "No, no one has any idea."

Hard to believe that Lowe's would go in that close to Home Depot, although it would probably raise their quality, so it might be something to hope for. At one time there was a Target rumor ... any more to that? |

Oh - Alg. Take a field trip over the weekend. They have a kid-check where you can put little Alg to play while you tour. There is one on Route 202 about 1.5 miles south of the Somerville Circle.

I just sent the following to Wegmans through their website. Power in numbers. Here's the link - http://www.wegmans.com/guest/index.asp Maplewood, NJ would be an ideal location for a Wegmans. There is currently an ideal location for the store and HUGE interest from the community. Please see following link to local bulletin board. /discus/messages/3127/62674.html?1110572576

That space is pretty big... you could fit one hell of a driving range there.... oh wait.. forget it. Too bad the property isn't in South Orange, we could just throw up a huge "coming soon" sign and forget about it. |

Too bad the property isn't in Maplewood, either. It's in Union. |

Bob K. Basically, Lowes loves being near Home Depot, the closer the better. They believe they will kick HD's orange rear. Also, HD tends to locate at sites that have similar demographics and access patterns to what Lowes is looking for. |

Greene -- as the "Great One" is off to vacation at his Florida home this weekend I don't think I'll make the trip (not the best driver -- I suppose I can handle 202 though). Maybe next weekend we'll head out to Lambertville and make a Wegmans stop. I like the kid check thing. Mini-Straw (or Little Alg) is very big for his age and is now too tall to go in the Ikea play area -- I haven't broken the news to him yet, we can just never go back to Ikea. I'd like a KMart to go in the driving range. Gotta love the Big K! |

I heard that there is going to be a giant KFC there with the entrance and exit on S.A. and room to seat 175.

Before you get your hopes up about one store on another being built at the driving range in Union, ask yourself these questions: 1. If it's a big store, how many customers will it take for this to become profitable? 2. How many additional cars will that put on Springfield Avenue? Each day? Plus weekends. And Christmas shopping season? I attended some township hearings where I used to live on the night that Wal-mart was making their pitch for a zoning change. Wal-mart's hired-gun traffic engineer knew how many "trips" (read that 'cars') would be added to the road each day. The number was 11,000 weekdays and 26,000 on weekends, not including the shopping season between Thanksgiving and New Years. Target or Lowe's would need similar numbers to stay open. These shoppers would get there from three directions: Valley Street, 78/24 and Springfield Avenue. Chances are, you use those streets too and I'll bet you'd rather not see an additional 9,000 cars a day on the one you use. As for the Wal-mart? They'd closed one (seven years old), and they did put the new one down the road. |
