Oh, MY! The Grand Poobah of Poopyhead Awards has seen fit to show me the ropes! Thank you, Art! I'm afraid, however, that I'm much too cowardly to ever embroil myself in any kind of controversy. I'm strictly a Virtual Café type--the Soapbox scares me (it gets pretty nasty over there in Education too). Perhaps you have one to spare...?

Let's see, next on teh lits is speling corretions. Hmmm, there must be at LEATS three mitsakes in this pots...

Sbenois:

IMHO Linda W' is referring to Art as the grand recipient of the the poopyhead award rather than the grand bestower.

I do not believe that my dear friend Arturo has ever receive a Poopyhead Award. If he has and I oddly don't recall it, then I revoke it in retrospect because Arturo and Libby are aces with Sbenois.

Linda W, on the other hand, is a loser and is just asking for trouble.

Oh by the way, Linda, welcome to Maplewood

Thank you, Joan; I was referring to Art as a recipient rather than a bestower. He said, “The best way to get that award is to get down and political... Run for something, start a B&B, or get in a pissing contest with your neighbors!” I assumed that since he’d done all those things, he’d been a recipient several times over.

As for you, Mr. High and Mighty Sbenois—I am NOT a loser and furthermore, I am NOT afraid of you anymore. I refer you to your surveillance camera located at the corner of Inwood Pl. and Maplewood Ave, January 31, 2003 at precisely 13:20. See the woman flipping the bird at you? Guess who!

I have to get off this message board. I’ve only been posting for a couple of weeks and it has already invaded my subconscious! Last night I dreamt that I was skipping school. I went to a mall (an outside one like Essex Green) to window shop. I turned a corner and (horrors!) there was Café Sbenois! There was a picture of him in the front window and it looked just like this:
Sbenois
You guys were all in there having lunch. Ed May was there, and Dave, and Art, and Joan…

Linda W.,

Sounds like an honest mistake... I'm sorry, my comment was misleading. The truth is there have been many times I've come close to being a recipient.

As for your comment to Mr. High and Mighty Sbenois, I wouldn't push your luck. I like your spunk, but slow down before you burn out. What’s your rush?

Look, skipping school, flipping the bird, and using a picture of Sbenois without permission is no way to make friends an influence people.

“I’ve read just about everything ever written on this board but never had the courage to “speak”.

So now that you have the courage, what kind of posters do you want to side with?

Maybe you should take your own advice? Why not have a few beers and get off this message board for a while to try to figure things out?

Linda,

Please don't get too involved with the personalities on this message chat forum. When my wife and I moved here recently we were told that Maplewood was a nice community. We were misled. Maplewood is full of crazy people and mental midgets who seem to rejoice at the misfortune of others. My wife and I and now our young homeless child know this all too well. My best advice to you is to stay away from this festering mix of lunatics, solcial malcontents, cranks and bed wetters for your own good. All of the Maplewoodonline posters really need to get a life with the exception of the board moderator who, as you must have noticed, is incapable of advancing his wretched life beyond the 4 inch curb he just manages to peer over.

By the way, my wife and I would love to meet you so we may tell you our sad story of betrayal, honesty, retribution and hopelessness. If we go to a diner, can you pick up the tab?

Dearest Costanza,

Thank you for your advice. You seem like a very caring person. I would love to take you and your presumably lovely family out to a diner to hear your tales of woe. As long as it’s not Café Sbenois. He called me a loser and I’ve also heard he’s in cahoots with that Christensen guy, who I find rather pushy. I didn’t realize when I joined up here that we’d be asked to take sides but if forced, I’d much rather “side” with someone nice like you than someone who suggests I take a vacation from this message board (is that any way to treat a newcomer, I ask you). The idea of having a few beers appeals to me though (beer goes great with woe)—let’s try to find a diner with a liquor license, shall we?

Privateline me and we’ll get together. Is Tuesday good for you?

I do hope you're joking. How long have you lived here already? 3 years? And you've never even mistakenly noticed it or come in?

Are you a "looser"?

Dr. Stefano, paging Dr. Stefano. Please come to Linda W's home to see if she is playing with 46 cards in her deck.

SHEEEEEESH

P.S. Every other Thursday is Haiku night at the Cafe, rotating with Iambic Pentameter night.

AZ, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the scepticism of a sceptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, AZ, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, AZ, there is a Cafe Sbenois. It exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Cafe Sbenois! It would be as dreary as if there were no AZs. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no Yumsters to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Cafe Sbenois! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to have men to watch in all the parks in Maplewood to spy Cafe Sbenois, but even if you did not see Cafe Sbenois serving Yumsters, what would that prove? Nobody sees Cafe Sbenois, but that is no sign that there is no Cafe Sbenois. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive of imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest mean, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, AZ, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Cafe Sbenois! Thank God! it lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, AZ, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, it will continue to make glad the heart of Maplewood.

Two more suggestions to expand the cafe's local customer base:
*Monthly Trochaic Tetrameter nights
*Additions to the the annual "Reading Marathons". As you probably know, Sbenois has long hosted star-studded week-long simultaneous live readings of two of his favorite pre-Glasnost books:
"Tolstoy's Life & Times" by Warren Peece, and the "The Russian Milkman" by I. Sukatitsky. I suggest that he leap into the vast cultural breach created by the long-ago closing of that fabulous literary emporium, NYC's Shakespeare & Co., and offer a week-long live reading (by local bigwigs this time) of "Finnegan's Wake". I, for one would consider it a civic triumph. No doubt hundreds of eager volunteers would sign up to read aloud. Dozens of grateful patrons at a time would linger hour after hour in the cafe to hear "just one more chapter". That's a lotta Yumsters, Sbenois.
...Well, at LEAST consider Trochaic Tetrameter Night...

Ok....I think I get the point. Apparently, there is no shortage of literary visionaries in Maplewood. Like I said in some other thread, an FAQ is needed...and a separate one for Sbenois.

Hi. We are new in Maplewood (ex Park Slope) and my neighbors told me to check out this board and stop asking them so many questions. I don't feel like going to a newcomers meeting, at least not until it warms up, so I hope you guys can answer a few questions I have.
1)Why the f do I have to take another test to get a Jersey drivers license?
2)Does Waste Management have a monoploy on Garbage pick up in Maplewood? Is there anybody who will pick up 5 pounds of garbage a week for less than the $ they charge?
3)Anybody know of a good air guitar class?
4)I was laid off from my job as assistant cheif vice president of mergers and pancake batter at Sbenois engineering last week. Any ideas where I can find a comparable position?
5)What is with that Maplewood cop with the impressive mullet?
