Welcome, Eddy.

You may want to visit the Dancing Goat in South Orange or Van Gogh's Ear in Union.

Welcome, Eddy, wife and daughter! I've been in Maplewood since June. I grew up in Manhattan and have lived in NJ since 1987.

Hello, my wife and I moved in about two months ago, with three young children. We are working parents with live in help. We'd love for our 2 year old daughter to meet other children in the area, we have her signed up for a couple of classes but coming from manhattan she was used to being active much more of the time. Also, any good ideas for swim classes or gyms for her?

Hi Jeffrey,
Welcome to the community and the show that never ends here online. I recommend asking this question in the "Please Help" section of the board. Also, if you'd prefer not to post under a real name, you can change it under "edit profile". Hope this helps.

I am not new to Maplewood, but I am new to the online community.

I have a question for all who can help or who can point me to the right direction.

I have seen a lot of Chinese girls in the neighborhood and am wondering if any of these girls' parents would be interested in getting a local tutor for Chinese language and/or culture. I am not sure if this belongs to a "service" board or just a friendly neighborhood introduction.

If this is the wrong place for me to post this message, please tell me where I should post this message.

Welcome to paradise Alissa...

What took you so long? It sounds like you should be coming to the SOMBI meeting, Thursday, Jan. 15th, 7PM, at Rutgers Plaza, Maplewood...

BTW, I'd like take you up on the FREE sample session. It sounds interesting. Maybe I can get a few others interested to attend, and if you like, we can hold the session at my home.

Purchased a house in SO in August and FINALLY moved in last week. The months of renovations have been worth it and we're excited to be here. Our 20 month old son is loving the new space he has to play. Definitely beats the sublet in Alphabet City we were holed up in.

My wife and I own a small ad agency and will be working out of the house. Now that we're finally here, I have some questions.

1. Are there any local networking groups in the area?

2. I would like to continue coaching youth soccer. Any local clubs?

Hello and welcome Steve,

Your post on MOL seems a little heavy for a first time poster. Did you just move to our community?

Maybe you wouldn't mind telling us what your reason was for providing this information to us?

Welcome Jamie,

My daughter recently moved to Alphabet City and teaches at PS64. She too just finished her renovations and is so excited to be there. Well, different strokes, for different folks...

BTW, check out SOMBI here on MOL, and the South Orange Recreation Department...

Jamie G

My name is Ed May and I am Chairman of our local small business networking group called SOMBI, to which Art referred above. We are the 150 person strong South Orange Maplewood Buusiness Incubator. Our website is www.sombi.org and our meetings are posted on the MOL message board. Why don't you and your wife attend our next meeting on February 19th at the Maplewood Library on Baker Street at 6:30 PM?

Maplewood and South Orange share a recreational soccer program for elementary school aged youngsters. They are always looking for coaches. Check in with the Maplewood or South Orange recreation department for more information. There is also the Cougar Soccer program which more of a club program and is primarily for older children. Perhaps someone reading this thread who is involved in the program could tell you their coaching needs.

Hi,

What can the good folks of MOL tell me about Hughes Street and its surrounding area? My family and I are looking at a house on Hughes near Schaeffer. It seems safe, quiet, not as upscale as, say, the Tuscan area but solidly middle class, pleasant, etc. Am I on track?

Is this considered the Hilton neighborhood? I saw a big sign on a business that said Hillcrest. Is there also a Hillcrest neighborhood?

Thanks.

Claire

Yes, Hughes Street is in the Hilton neighborhood.

I think that there is a Hillcrest neighborhood - isn't that the name of the area with the gates over near Clinton school?

Hey, Maplewood! I'll be seeing you there April 1 (as long as the lawyers don't screw it up). Thought I'd get a jump on the community culture.

Got two young kids, itching to BBQ, shoot hoops in backyard. You know, the good life...

Any general advice?

Welcome El, you are going to love it here! I have been here 29 years and have no intention of leaving. You will be in your new house before you know it. This is a good place to live. Don't mind all the bickering on MOL, it only represents a small part of Mapleberry. There is a lot of great info to be found on MOL as well.
